Mark both Anniversary
GORRIE-Mr. and Mrs. Aus-
tin Raynard of Ethel celebrate
their 60th wedding anniversary
December 14.
The couple was married at
the home of the bride's parents,
the late Mr. and Mrs. John Huf-
fman, Con. 3, Grey Twp. on
December 14, 1904. They
moved to the groom's farm on
the same concession where they
farmed until 1913, when they
took over the Raynard home-
stead. They remained there
until retiring to Ethel in 1951.
They recall that the weather
on their wedding day was cold
and frosty but clear. There
was a lot of snow and the roads
were full of pitch holes.
The bride of 60 years ago,
the former Essie Huffman, was
born at Riversdale, Greenock
Twp. in Bruce County onOcto-
ber 8, 1884. The groom was
born in Grey 'I'wp., Con. 4 on
August 17, 1880, the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ray-
nard.
The couple has three sons,
Sylvester of Bluevale, R. R.2 ,
and John and Cecil of Ethel,R,
R.1; three daughters, Mrs.
Clarence (Hazel) Clarke, Ethel,
R. R. 1; Mrs. Mungo (Laura)
MacFarlane, Bluevale, R. R. 1;
Mrs. Walter (Doris) MacFarlane
of Listowel; 18 grandchildren
and 22 great grandchildren.

Secret Pals
GORRIE-Mrs. Harold Robin-
son was hostess for the Christ-
mas meeting of Unit 1, United
Church Women.
The election of officers was
held. The leader is Mrs. Wm.
Behrns; assistant, Mrs. Robt.
Elschner; secretary, Mrs. T. L.
McInnes; treasurer, Mrs. Wes-
ley Trimble; organist, Mrs. Har-
ry
arry Rhame; flowers and cheer,
Mrs. Elmer Farrish. quilt com-
mittee, Mrs. Chas. Black, Mrs.
John Strong; secret pals, Mrs.
Harold Robinson.
Carol singing was enjoyed
and each member received a
gift from her secret pal with
the name enclosed and drew
another name for the coming
year. The members started
work on quilt blocks.
Mrs. Sutherland
Dies in Ottawa
Mr. and Mrs. Farish Moffat
received a letter last week
from Rev. W.S.Sutherland of
Ottawa, informing them that
his wife passed away on Octob-
er 30th, She took a heart at-
tack on October 23. Rev.Suth-
erland was minister at White-
church and Langside several
years ago.

GORRIE-Wesley Gallaway
and Kenneth Underwood have
returned home from a success-
ful moose -hunting trip at Mat-
achewan.
and enjoys crocheting, knitting,
quilting and growing flowers,
while Mr. Raynard is interested
in television and radio.
Their immediate family
gathered for a turkey dinner on
Sunday. The couple held open
house on both Sunday and Mon-
day afternoons.
Plan Chrishnas
Party for Friday
GORRIE- The December
meeting of St. Stephen's Guild
was held at the home of Mrs.
Joseph Bennett. An exchange
of gifts was held and there was
a good attendance.
The meeting opened with
prayer. Mrs. Thos. Ash read
the Scripture. The secretary's
report was given by Mrs. Olive
May in the absence of the sec-
retary. Mrs. harry King gave
the treasurer's report which was
most encouraging.
Mrs. Mac Newton gave a
Christmas reading. Business
was discussed and it was decid-
ed to have the Christmas party
on December 18 for the child-
ren and families of the church.
The party will be in the Sunday
School room at 8.30 p.m.
The officers appointed for
1965 were: president, Mrs.
George Anderson; vice pres.
Mrs. Perry Strong; treasurer,
Mrs. Harry Zimmerman; press
reporter, Mrs. Joseph Bennett.
Rev. G. A. Anderson closed
the meeting with prayer. The
gifts were exchanged and lunch
was served by Mrs. T. Ash,
Mrs. Harry King and the host-
ess.
