Mr. Henderson is on three weeks' vacation. Topping Off a very lovely party on Todd's second birthday, ' there came a hail storm, When it ceased, Todd, thinking it was a part of the celebration, exclaimed, "Oh, turn it on again!" S, of Knox Church, presided for the annual meeting held at the house of Mrs. Robt, McMurray, Twenty-five ladies and five children attended. The theme was the Christmas message. The secretary, Mrs, Robt, McMurray, read a letter regard- ing the presbyterial meeting in Lucknow January 12, when the Bluevale ladies will have charge of devotions, Mrs. B. Thomas will read the Scripture; Mrs. McMurray will give the meditation and Mrs, T.C, Ken- nedy the prayer. Mrs. Burns Moffatt will or- der the study books for the devotional part of the meeting. She used the Christmas service of worship in the December Tidings, and was assisted by Mrs. Alex McTavish who read the Scripture, Mrs. Eldon Kir- ton who gave the meditation, and Mrs, John Brent offered prayer. The singing of carols with Mrs. Don Robertson as pianist added to the spirit of the meeting. The ladies thoroughly enjoy ed Mrs. Richard DeBoer's talk xi Christmas customs in Hol- land. She said St. Nicholas Day is December 5th and it is the day the children receive their gifts and treats. She said Christmas is seldom a white Christmas in Holland. It is a day for devotional service. Mrs. DeBoer and her husband sang in a choir of '75 members. Church service started at 9.30 a.m. and the day was spent in church and in singing carols from door to door. She showed the ladies several articles she had brought from Holland and also treated them to a taste of cookies which she had received in her Christmas parcel from her rel- atives in Holland. Mrs. Nichol and Mrs. Thom- as both expressed sincere thanks to Mrs. DeBoer for her interest- ing talk. Everyone at the meeting agreed the Christmas customs in Holland are consid- erably different from those in Canada. Mrs. DeVos closed the devotional part of the meet- ing with prayer. This being the annual meet- UCW Finances in Excellent Shape BLUEVALE-The U.C.W. met in the school room of the United Church on Friday after- noon. Mrs. Scott McLennan presided for the worship service. Carols were sung and Christmas readings given. Mrs. W.J. Pea- cock read the Scripture. Mrs. Keith Nicholson contributed a vocal solo. The president, Mrs. Carl Johnston, conducted the busi- ness session. Reports were rec- eived from the various groups. Mrs. James Johnston, treasurer, reported that the allocation had been reached, all expenses paid, with a satisfactory bal- ance in the treasury. EUCHRE PARTY AT NURSES' RESIDENCE The Personnel Conference Committee of Wingham and District Hospital held another euchre party in the nurses' res- idence last Thursday evening, Mrs. Gordon Walker won the door prize. Prizes for euchre were won by Miss Elva Watke, high lady; Mrs. Wcllie Mc- Donald, low lady; and Miss Betty McKenzie, lady playing as a man. Wellic McDonald was high man and Keith Coll- yer, low man. Mrs. William Elston closed the meeting with prayer and lunch was served by the hos- tess. LADIES' AID MEETING Mrs. Harry Elliott presided for the Ladies Aid meeting. She opened the meeting with David's psalm of Thanksgiving in verse, followed by prayer. Encouraging reports were given by the secretaries of the differ- ent groups, Arrangements were made for the lunch for the Sunday School Christmas con- cert on December 11. A committee was named to buy a vacuum cleaner for the church. The president express- ed thanks for the co-operation of all the ladies during the six years she was president, Mrs, William Elston read the slate of officers for the com- ing year as follows: Past presi- dent, Mrs, Harry Elliott; presi- dent, Mrs. William Elston; 1st vice president, Mrs. Alex Mc- Tavish; secretary, Mrs, Eldon Kirton; treasurer, Mrs. Burns Moffatt; nominating committee, Mrs, Ross Mann, Mrs. Raymond Elliott, Mrs, Richard DeBoer, Mrs. Harry Elliott closed with the benediction. Lunch was served and a social hour enjoyed.
