The president, Mrs, Emma Coffin conducted the opening exercises. The minutes and correspondence were read by the secretary, Mrs. Vic Emer- on. The program for the Jan- uary meeting was read and Mrs. Eunice Gillespie offered her home for the meeting. The roll call was answered by 15 members by giving a Christmas verse and a Christ- mas card with stamped enve- lope. Christmas carol singing was enjoyed with Mrs. Garnet Farrier as pianist. Mrs. Ed. Walker gave a reading, " In- tolerance" . Mrs. Don Ross gave piano solos, "Silver Bells' and "A White Christmas". She spoke of her attend- ance at the Royal Winter Fair as a local leader. She review- ed the various attitudes to- wards Christmas but summed it up as a time of Christ -like at- titude, to create friendliness, extend hospitality and respon- sibility toward others. She closed with a Christmas poem and wished all a Merry Christ- mas and Happy New Year. Mrs. Coffin thanked Mrs. Gemmell and presented her with a gift. Mrs. Vic Emerson read" The Lighted Candle" from Miss Ethel Chapman's Roadside Win- dows. A Christmas lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Albert Coultes, Mrs. Ezra Scholtz and Mrs. Emma Coffin. Mrs. George Fisher and Doris To Hold White Gift Service on Dec. 13 WHITECHURCH-The U.C. W. held its December meeting on Thursday at the home of Mrs. Ezra Scholtz with an at- tendance of 30. While the la- dies were arriving Mrs. Millan Moore conducted a Bible quiz. Christmas carol singing. was en- joyed. Mrs. Moore gave the prayer, "Before Christmas". It was de- cided to have the White Gift service on December 13. Mrs. Eunice Gillespie asked all to save the used stamps which she sends away, and the money from their sale is used for the care of those with leprosy. Reports were given by the conveners of the various com- mittees. Rev. George Mitch- I ell reported for the Y.P.S. Mrs. Moore thanked the hostess and Mrs. George Mitch- ell presided for the program. She introduced the five players who were putting on the play, " The Reason for Christmas". Mrs. Emma Coffin sang the solo, "Holy Night". Mrs. Mitchell's theme was "Home for Christmas", given in play form with the audience joining in singing of carols and reading from the Hymnary. She also led in prayer. Rev. George Mitchell clos- ed the meeting with prayer and the quarterly birthday tea was held. Bluevale On Sunday, December 13th, the annual White Gift service will be observed in the United Church. Congratulations to Wallace Conn in heading the Kinloss Township poll and to Bill Evans, a close second, elected to coun- cil seats and to Russel Rose on heading the poll for school trustee in Kinloss Township. Mr. and Mrs, Ivan Laidlaw and Janet were Sunday visitors with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. John Crowston of Langside. Despite the stormy weather on Monday this community was busy getting out to the poll to vote for councillors and school trustees, As of July lst all schools will be run by an area board. Mr, and Mrs. Dave King at-, tended the 4-H Achievement Day in Kincardine High School on Saturday. Mr. Dan Cassidy returned on Monday to the home of his dau- ghter, Mrs. Walter A rscott and Mr. Arscott, after visiting with relatives in Brussels and Guelph, Mrs, Ben McClenaghan was admitted to Wingham and. Dis- trict Hospital on Wednesday. Mr. Lloyd Rock of Ethel visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Johnston, Robert and Graeme of Turnberry, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McBurney. Committee Heads Are Appointed BELMORE-A meeting of the executive of the United Church Women was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Wilfred Johann. The members of the exec- utive, which include Mrs. Johann as president, Mrs. Ira Neill and Mrs, Earl Fitch as vice-presidents, Mrs. Joseph Simmons, secretary and Mrs. Murray Mulvey, treasurer, in- stalled the following members Accept Tender Of Goderich Firm For Snow Plow East Wawanosh Council opened two tenders for a one- way snow plow at last week's meeting: Dominion Road Ma- chinery Sales Co. LAKELET-The members of Fordwich W.I. were guests when the Lakelet Institute met at the W. I,hall on Thursday with an attendance of 40 ladies, Scripture was read by Mrs. Derril Hallman, Roll call was answered with something learned from the Institute Handbook, The motto was "The only thing more ex- pensive than education is ignor- ance", given by Mrs. Harold Wallace. Musical numbers by Mrs. Lorne Siefert of Fordwich were enjoyed. Mrs. Walter Demerling in- troduced Orville Douglas and Arthur Landman who showed pictures of the Holy Land and Holland.
