Official's Hunt for Dogs
Produces Weird Experience
Conservation officers are
continually running into weird
and wonderful happenings in
their daily work in the field.
One of the most weird and
wonderful experiences, with
the emphasis on "weird" occur-
red recently in Bruce County.
Conservation Officer Gerry
F'srris was patrolling a heavily
'oded area in Bruce County
on foot, searching for wild
dogs which were running and
killing deer in the area. Back
in the bush about one and a
half miles from the closest road
the officer entered a small
clearing and noticed a six foot
mound resembling an old
grave; on the mound were
growing watermelons, several
types of squash, cucumbers,
pumpkins and one beautiful red
gladiola. At one end of the
mound was a weatherbeaten
rough cross with fresh writing -
" In Memory of W. E. Gourd"
Since this occurrence, all
kinds of thoughts have been
considered on the story behind
this weird and wonderful find-
ing. No doubt there is an an-
swer; but until the truth is
found, they are keeping t h e
exact location a deep dark se-
cret.
COUPLE RECEIVES
PLATFORM ROCKER
FORDWICH-A presentation
and dance were held on Friday
night in the Fordwich Commu-
nity Hall in honor of Mr. and
Mrs. Don Brown, who were
recently married. Mrs, Rus-
sel Nichol read the address and
the couple was presented with
a leather platform rocker.
A six-year-old was walking
with her mother when they saw
a hawk. The child asked what
that "thing" was and when in-
formed it was a kind of bird
answered, "It can't be. It
isn't paddling its wings."
