BELGRAVE-The Christmas
general meeting of the U.C.W.
of Knox United Church, was
held on Thursday. Mrs. Leslie
Bolt, president, opened with a
Christmas poem followed by a
hymn and prayer.
Minutes were read by Mrs.
William Coultes. Mrs. Ross
Robinson reported on the manse
and Mrs. Ted Fear announced
that the shut-in boxes would
be packed the second week in
December. Anyone wishing to
donate to the boxes is asked to
take her donation to the unit
meeting.
Mrs. Ross Anderson gave the
report of the nominating com-
mittee with the following off-
icers for 1965: Past president,
Mrs. Ross Anderson; president,
Mrs. Leslie Bolt; 1st vice, Mrs.
Jack Taylor; secretary, Mrs.
William Coultes; treasurer,
Mrs. George Michie; leader of
the Afternoon Unit, Mrs. Earl
Anderson; leader of the Even-
ing Unit, Mrs. Albert Bieman;
Christian citizenship and
social action, Mrs. Jack Hig-
gins; Christian education and
missionary education, Mrs. Ted
Fear; community friendship and
visiting membership, Mrs.

Carol singing was led by
Mrs. Arthur Jackson. Mrs.
Helen Martin was leader of the
program and was narrator for
the "Christmas Festival", which
opened by singing," It Came
Upon a Midnight Clear'. Mrs.
Laura Johnston read the Christ-
mas story from the Bible. Mrs.
Martin read about Christmas in
Germany and the Christmas
wreath was put in place and the
candles lit by Mrs. John Nixon.
This was followed by singing
"Silent Night...
"Christmas in Sweden" was
read by Mrs. Martin and Mrs.
James Lamont was Saint Lucia.
"Joy to the World" was sung.
"0 Holy Night" was sung by
Mrs. George Michie, Mrs.
George Johnston, Mrs. John
Nixon, Mrs. Carl Procter, Mrs.
Earl Anderson and Mrs. Leslie
Bolt, accompanied by Mrs.
Arthur Jackson. "Christmas in
India" was read by the narrator
and the candle -lighters includ-
ed Mrs. Arthur Jackson, Mrs.
Ross Anderson, Mrs. Sam Pletch
and Mrs. Ross Robinson, to por-
tray the Festival of Lights in
India. "The Legend of the
Black Madonna" was read by
Mrs. James Coultes. "In Christ
There Is no East or West" was
sung and the Mizpah benedic-
tion closed the meeting.

Selfish Driver
Must Be Stopped
"Traffic today is too heavy,
too dense and too fast for any
one motorist to drive as though
there were no other drivers on
the road or as though all other
drivers had no right to be there;
said W. Arch Bryce, executive
director of the Canadian High-
way Safety Council. "If he
tries either, he must be stopped
as must be any potential killer:'
Mr. Bryce spoke in connec-
tion with the Council's coast-
to-coast road safety campaign
Safe -Driving Week, running
December 1 to 7 in' give.
A feature of the campaign
is the use of a small diamond-
shaped lapel tag reading, "No
Thanks, I'm Driving." The
tag is designed for use through
December long "Holiday Haz-
ards" campaign, sponsored by
all enforcement bodies and
heralded by Safe -Driving Week
each year.

Ron Nicholson has been
transferred to the Beaver Lum-•
ber Company at Whitby, where
he will take the position of
assistant -manager.
Mrs. Margaret Kemp of
Toronto is visiting with Mr.
and Mrs. George Michie and
family.
Maribeth Ann Scott and
Melanie RoseScott, twin dau-
ghters of Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Scott, were baptised on Sunday
at the Belgrave United Church.
Sunday, December 6 will
be White .Gift Sunday at the
United Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brown
and Susan and Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Bolt visited on Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. John Nixon
and family.
Harmony Unit Will Send
Gifts to Ont. Hospital
WROXETER-The Harmony
Unit of the United Church held
its monthly meeting at the
home of Marie Irwin last Tues-
day.
The devotions were conduct-
ed by the convener, Audre;
Chambers, opening with the
theme song. Winona Martin
was pianist. "The Church's
One Foundation" and "Will
Your Anchor [cold" were sung.
A meditation was read by Aud-
rey Chambers. Muriel Alcorn
gave the topic, the last chapt-
er of "The Word and the Way".
The president, Ann Yeoman,
conducted the business. The
secretary's and treasurer's re-
ports were read by Fern Wylie.
Two mortar board hats had
been purchased for the choir.
The roll call "Penny an inch
for the bust" yielded over $4.10.
The gifts for the Cancer
patients at the hospital were
collected. It was decided that
each member buy a dollar gift
to he given to patients at the
Ontario Hospital in Goderich.
A 250 gift exchange will take
place at the Christmas meet-
ing on December 14, when
each member will give a read-
ing, solo or entertain in some
way rather than having the reg-
ular topic.
Audrey Chambers presented
the 1965 slate of officers. Ann
Yeoman gave an interesting
reading, "The New Quilt", in
which the blocks depicted the
personality of those who had
made thetas,
R was decided to publicize
UCW meetings, especially the
one in December when Mrs.
Allan McTaggart of Moncrief
will he the speaker.
Mrs. Fred Taylor was the
winner of a contest which was
held at the close of the meet-
ing.

circular that was wrapped
around the bottle she got two

Hi -C Dance Set For December 12
BELGRAVE-The Iii -C Group
met in the church school rooms
on Sunday evening. Ruth
Michie led the sing -song ac-
companied by Lorne Campbell.
Lynda Coultes read the secre-
tary's report and Allan Bosman
gave the treasurer's report.
It was announced that the
Hi -C dance will be held on
December 12 in the Foresters'
Ball. Toc Alpha was discussed.
Lloyd Michie was in charge
of the meeting and opened with
the hymn, "0 Worship the
King", followed by Scripture
by Alex Blair. The meditation
on the Scripture was read by
Jim Cook. The offering was
received by David Walsh and
Gordon Campbell. Lloyd Mich•
ie led in prayer.
The theme of the discussion
was "Personal Devotion", The
gathering divided into smaller
groups for discussion, and re-
joined to combine their find-
ings. Recreation and taps clos-
ed the meeting.
EUCHRE PARTY
BELGRAVE-The weekly
euchre was held in the Com-
munity Centre last Wednesday
.with eight tables in play. Priz-
es went to; High lady, Mrs.
Jack Anderson; high man, Her -
son Irwin; novelty lady, Mrs.
Ruth Dougherty; novelty man,
John Bailey; low lady, Mrs.
Dorothy Creighton; low man,
Jack McCullum.
