HURON JAIL HAS
SAME PROBLEMS AS
OTHER INSTITUTIONS
GODERICH—The property
committee is to meet to evalu-
ate the situation with regard to
the jail, in an effort to deter-
mine what action, if any,
should be forthcoming.
The plan of multiple -county
units was presented to council
by Reform Institutions Minister
Allan Grossman.
The property committee re-
port to council, signed by
Reeve A.D, Smith of Turnberry,
states; "It is not our intention
that a new county jail is re-
quired immediately; however,
our building is 124 years old.
Mr. Grossman said it had
the same problems as most oth-
er Ontario jails; overcrowding,
antiquated facilities, lack of
treatment and classification
facilities and inadequate segre-
gation of inmates. .
HISTORY NOT COMPLETED
The property committee is
"disappointed that the material
of our history of Huron is stili
not complete." The chairman
thought some material remain-
ed to be transcribed.
"Everything has been trans-
cribed that has been sent to ug"
explained Clerk John Berry.
"Two or three chapters" are
awaited.
