Mustangs Take
Stratford Central
There's no doubt about it
now, Wingham has got a foot-
ball team. Last Thursday they
✓ beat Stratford Central15-12.
Things got off to a fast start
when Doug Campbell ran the
opening kickoff back for a
touchdown. Bob Lunn kicked
the convert.
Stratford wasn't long coming
back when they scored a pass
about four plays after the kick-
off. The convert failed.
Stratford scored again the
second quarter and led Wing -
ham 13-7 at half time. John
Watson got the winning touch-
, down in the third quarter, and
Bob Lunn again made the con-
vert good.
A safety in the final quarter
gave Wingham an extra point
and the score was 15-12 and
that was how it stayed.
This was a hard fought game
✓ and I think the Mustangs de-
serve credit for their final ef-

Pity
The rosy glow of daylight's
waning ray,
Will tint the velvet sky now
golden hued.
Electric colours fading, dying
day
Allows nocturnal shades to set
the mood.
And perfect peace replaces for-
eign fears
That were because of heaven's
sunny skies;
Though some know night brings
naught but death and tears.
Yet all who hear ignore their
silent sigh.
But He above knows I will hear
their plea;
And do my best to satisfy their
needs:
With help I ever seek on bend-
ed knee
Be just, be kind; in thought, or
word, or deed,
For you will find that life is
much less cruel
If you will only heed the golden
rule.

total of 25. Ian's Idiots and
Bill's Boobs both took five points
for 19 and 18. Mac's Mules
and Hap's Happy Gang worked
hard for two points for a total
of 16 and 14. The zero went
to Mat's Meeces leaving them
at 13. It is all a close race and

themselves.

COMMERCIAL LEAGUE
This week saw the Lions
and Wildcats change places,
but when these teams really get
going, there is going to be
some snarling and spitting for
sure.
By the scores this week, it
looks as if our Shirley Storey
was really in the groove. She
took the high single with 292
and the high triple with 666.
Men's high single went to my
team-mate, Ernie Walker with
237 and he also took the high
triple with 623. Changing
places really worked for Ernie.
Team Standings, Lions 30;
Wildcats 26; Seals 26; Tigers
20; Cougars 14; Beavers 10.
Thanks to Vicki Wild for
sparing. Also, thanks to my
pal, Ruth Lott, for those coach-
ing lessons. I improved this
week.
20 Innings to
Decide Game
St. Agatha defeated the
Whitechurch Junior C softball
team in Wingham last Wednes-
day night in a game that went
20 innings.
At the end of the ninth in-
ning the score was tied 1-1. It
was not until the end of the
20th that St. Agatha managed
to break the tie and the weary
players left the diamond about
one o'clock Thursday morning.
They played again in St.
Clements on Saturday with St.
Agatha again leading on the
scoreboard. The final tally in
this game was 0-2 for the
Saints.
MUSTANGS WIN—The WDHS Mustangs won their sec-
ond game of the season last Thursday when they defeated
Stratford Central 15-12. One of the Wingham players
is pictured making a tackle during the game—Yearbook.

Show BIT
Review week October 21-28
Last week CBC's youth shows
were given a boost in this co-
lumn, so this week we must
thank the other Canadian net-
work, CTV, for also providing
our young viewers with produc-
tions of varied interest. "Rom-
per Room:, a show for the wee
tots, is back at 9:30 each morn-
ing Monday through Friday, fol-
lowed by everyone's favourite
pooch, "Rin Tin Tin" at10:30.
A regular daily habit for the
older kids after they come home
from school at 5, is "The Mi-
ckey Mouse Club", from Walt
Disney. This was the early
stomping grounds for kids who
grew up to be big stars, like
Annette Funicello and Darlene
Gillespie. Two new series that
have hit CTV this season, are
"Magilla Gorilla", on Mondays
at 5:30 and "Stingray", Tues-
days at the same hour. 'Gorilla'
is a cartoon show about a goril•
la who has become a perma-
nent resident of a pet shop.
"Stingray", an underseas ad-
venture series, features puppets
which almost come to life.
Each puppet has several differ-
ent heads which are changed
according to mood. They have
luminous glass eyes which move
not only sideways but up and
down, and human hair which is
set in miniature curlers every
night (even puppets have their
coiffure problems!) Each one
also has a 'brain', a cell which
automatically controls the lip
movements. So this isn't just
an ordinary puppet show you're
watching. 'Stingray' is the
name of the submarine in the
series. Its task is to maintain
peace and warn the world of
enemy threats. The show's
star is Captain Troy Tempest,
commander of the Stingray;
his is the voice of Don Mason.
The cartoon family, "The
Flintstones", is back again this
year, at 6:30 Monday evenings.
And more cartoon shows are
"Yogi Bear" at 5:30, and "Mr.
Magoo", featuring the voice of
Jim Backus, an hour later on
Thursdays, highlights for those
who love some real-life adven-
ture, is "Walt Disney Presents"
on Sundays at 6:30. You can
always rely on the master of
entertainment for a great hour.
