OPP Corporal
Takes Charge Here
Corporal J. W. McDowell
formerly of Walkerton, has been
posted to the Wingham detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police and will be in charge of
the office. It is the first that
the Wingham force has been
under the command of an offi-
cer of this rank.
Corporal McDowell has
been in Walkerton for the past
four years, being promoted to
his present rank in 1960. A
native of Tilbury he has been a
member of the force for 17
years, serving in Seaforth, Mt.
Forest and Kitchener.
Corporal McDowell is mar-
ried and has one son, William,
who is in Grade 12. The fam-
ily will move to Wingham as
soon as accommodation can be
found. They are members of
the Anglican Church.
TASTY BEANS
Crush a few cheese crackers
and sprinkle over hot buttered
green beans just before serving.
A few celery seeds tossed with
yellow snap beans also give ex-
tra flavor and crunchiness.
Ult. Collects
$151 for UNICEF
The Wingham community
was one of the first to contri-
bute to UNICEF at Hallowe'en
ten years ago. In the past ten
years through the C, G. I, T. the
sum of $1,552.48 has been
sent to the national UNICEF
committee. Acounts collected
through other groups are in ad-
dition to this.
The members o•f the C. G. I. T.
wish to thank the people for
giving this continued support
to the 57 million children and
mothers in over 100 countries
currently benefiting. UNICEF
gives protection and treatment
to needy children in its disease
control programs. It equips
health centres, clinics; ships
vitamins and skim milk; pro-
vides equipment for health and
welfare workers. Because
UNICEF works closely with
other U.N. agencies, the aid-
ed governments, and 69 inter-
national voluntary agencies
can buy more than any indivi-
dual contribution can with the
money donated. The bills and
pennies collected through the
years have been put into action
to do their share in saving lives.
On Hallowe'en evening the
C.G.I. T. district captains
turned in the orange boxes to
the receiving committee who
happily rolled the coins and
rejoiced over the bills donated.
The total for 1964 was $151.25,
somewhat more than last year.
The first year's contribution in
1955 was $32.00 and the larg-
est contribution was $255.00
in 1960. May the community
place the United NationsChil-
dren's Fund high on its list of
worthy causes again in 1965!

next month. W. G. WhiteCon-
struction has the contract.
The building will contain
offices, kennels, a small ani-
mal clinic, operating room and
