STOKES MARRIED 25 YEARS G ORRIE - On Saturday eve- ning, October 17, Mr, and Mrs..1 Fraser Haugh of Wroxeter, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bolt and Mr, and Mrs. Clarence Yuill, Ross and Cameron of Brussels, Miss Elizabeth Stokes and Mr. Rich- ard Irwin of Kitchener, gather- ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stokes in Wroxeter to celebrate the couple's 25th wedding anniversary. During the evening several games of euchre were enjoyed, The couple received memor- able gifts and thoughtful cards. Lunch was served from the dining room table which was decorated for the occasion. Guild Meets At King Home GORRIE-The October meet- ing of St. Stephen's Guild was held at the home of Mrs.Frank King. The meeting opened with a hymn and prayer by the president. Mrs. Olive May read the Scripture. The roll call was answered by a verse on Thanksgiving, The minutes were read by Mrs. Harry Zimmerman, in the absence of the secretary. Mrs. G. A. Anderson gave a reading, "A New Song", that was written by Rev, P. C, Ains worth. Business was discussed and arrangements are being made for the Christmas bazaar, the date to be announced later. The meeting closed with prayer and lunch was served by Mrs. G. Anderson, Mrs. Joe Bennett and the hostess. Angus Bull Gains 457 lbs. In 140 Days A co-operatively owned A, I. bull now holds the daily gain record for Angus on Ontarioper- formance Test, Sunmound Eston Blackcap, bred by W. L. Knowles S.: Sons, Byemoor, Alta., was purchased as a calf by Central Ontario and Waterloo Cattle Breeding Associations and was placed on test at the government test sta- tion at Arkell in Ontario. He gained an average of 3.26 lbs. per day, for a total gain of 457 lbs. over the 140 day test period. His yearling weight was 1036 pounds, and he came off test weighing 1155 lbs. at 407 days of age. The freezing techniques now used in artifical insemination make it possible for this bull to be used by many hundreds of breeders throughout Canada and the rest of the world. He will be in regular service in Ontario in the thirteen coun- ties from Lake Huron to Peter- boro, the area served by Water- loo and Central Ontario breed- ing units. He will also be regularly available in Western Canada through the facilities of Western Animal Breeders Service. Researchers report that fast gaining cattle produce beef most economically, and that beef production is inherited to a high degree. High tate of gain hulls thus are used by cat- tlemen to produce fast growutg econotnically fed cattle. Through continued use of these high gain sires, average growth rare of herds can he built up increasing economy, turnoler and profit. Anderson attend- ed the fall deanery meeting in Exeter on Friday afternoon, Mrs. Nellie Dredge, Mr. Wm, Dredge, Mr, Fred Cherry of Palmerston visited Sunday with Mr, and Mrs, Ed Bolander, Mrs, Victor Bower and Trudy of Hornepayne, Mrs. George Cher- ry, Mr, Robert Cherry, Mr, William Cherry and Mr; Donald Cherry of Palmerston visited recently at the same home, Mr, and Mrs. Chas, Koch visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, John Murray of Moorefield. Mr, and Mrs, Robert Searson and Nettie spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ensil Irwin of Glencoe. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stokes were supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Thos, Stokes, Belmore. Miss Angela Mitchell has arrived at Cornwallis, N. S. , where she will take six months' basic training in the WRCNS communication branch. Brotherhood Holds Its Fall Meeting GORRIE•-The Brotherhood of Anglican Laymen of Huron Deanery held the fall meeting and banquet at Trinity Church, Fordwich last Wednesday eve- ning. The rural dean, the Rev. H. Donaldson of Seaforth, opened with the service of evening prayer. The president, Harold Sis- sons, of Exeter was in the chair for the business, 40th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY GORRIE-Mr. and Mrs. Wrn. Austin Sr. of Gorrie were hon- ored on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary on October 15 when their family held a surprise party on Satur- day evening at their home and presented them with anniver- sary cake and china cabinet. Attending were Sgt. Glenn and Mrs. Austin and family of Oakville, Mrs. Wm. Austin Jr, of Prince Rupert, James Austin and Miss Marion Somers of El- mira. Mrs. Johnson Hosts W.I. GORRIE-Mrs. Morley John- son was hostess for the October meeting of the Gorrie Women's Institute Mrs. John Baylor was program convener. A panel discussion was held on "Agri- culture is the strongest spoke in the wheel of industry". Those participating were Mrs. Cecil Wilson, Mrs. Melvin Taylor, Mrs, Leonard Sanderson and Mrs. Alexander Graham. Roll call was "Why I buy Canadian goods when possible", Mrs. Norman Wade gave the motto, "Supporting Horne In- dustry". Mrs. Raymond Gowdy con- ducted the business in the ab- sence of the president, A let- ter was read from Mrs, May Keever of Legacurry Women's Institute, County Antrim in Northern Ireland. Mrs. E. H. Strong, Mrs. Norman Wade and Mrs. Wm. Strong served refreshments. Bishop Installs AYPA Officers GORRIE-The Rt. Rev. H. F. Appleyard, Bishop of Georgian Bay paid his annual visit to the parish and addressed the con- gregations of Gorrie, Fordwich and Wroxeter in a service at St. Stephen's Church on Sunday af- ternoon. The rector, Rev. G. A. Anderson, conducted the service. Officers of the Gorrie Ford- wich A. Y. P. A. were installed by the bishop. They are as follows: Ptes. , Sharon Hub- bard; vice-pres., Ronald Ben- nett; sec., Kenneth Anderson; treas., Brian Underwood. Bishop Appleyard spoke on Anglican World Missions saying, "We should think young and share as large families do; share with the people of Africa who need our help." Roland Bennett was the Br• shop's staff bearer. Very Rev, K, V. Keefe, Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral, London, was the guest speaker and told of his experiences in British Columbia when he was a student for the ministry. Wesley Last, London, dio- cesan president, spoke briefly. Contributions for the Bursary Fund were received. This fund assists a student for the ministry in Huron Deanery. The following officers were returned for 1965: President, Harold Sissons, Exeter; 1st vice-president, Eric Switzer, Clinton; 2nd vice-president, Ted Southgate, Seaforth; sec. - treas. , Bob Luxton, Exeter. The W. A, of Trinity Church catered for the banquet which was attended by 59 laymen from Exeter, Clinton, Seaforth, Goderich, Brussels, Gorrie, Wroxeter and Fordwich.
