Spier Was Director of Howick Mutual A long illness was terminat- ed on Wednesday, October 7, when William L. Speir, Brussel died in Wingham and District Hospital. He was 72 years of age, and had been a resident of Brussels since retiring from farming in Morris Township in 1946. He was born in Morris, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Allan Speir, Mrs. Speir was the former Mary Robertson. Following his marriage to Miss Mary King of Bluevale, they farmed on the 4th conces- sion of Morris Township. Durin_• this time he spent some years serving on the council. In 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Speir moved to Brussels where Mr. Speir was a member of the council. He was a charter member of the Brussels Lions' Club and for many years was a director of the Howick Farmer' Mutual Fire Insurance Co. , re- tiring in February 1964. He was a faithful member of Melville Presbyterian Church where he had served on the board of managers and was a member of the Kirk session. He was a member of St. John's Lodge No. 284, A.F. and A. M. Besides his wife, he is surviv ed by three brothers, Gilbert of Brussels, Norman of Clinton and Allan, Toronto, and three sis- ters, Mrs. Agnes Denholme, Cayuga, Mrs. Mary Work of London and Mrs. Gordon (Mar- garet) Walsh, Belgrave. His funeral service was con- ducted from his late residence on Friday afternoon by Rev. W. J. Morrison of Melville Church, assisted by Rev. Gordon Fish of St, Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wingham, Graeme McDonald sang a solo, "Abide with Me", ac- companied by Mrs. W. C. King at the piano. Pall bearers were llarold Robinson, Gorrie; James Mair, Brussels; Ewart McKer- cher and Leslie Douglas, Wrox- cter; Norman Harding, Ford- wich; and Clare Hutchinson, Harriston. Beautiful floral tri- butes were carried by John Wilson, Fordwich; Joseph Shad - dick, Londesboro; Iloward Wylie, Wroxeter and Ilarold Cosens, Palmerston. Burial took place in Wing - ham Cemetery. DRIVE (AREFU ILY Explorers Meet BELGRAVE- The Explorers meeting was held on Sunday in the church school room and opened with the usual program and the hymn "This Is My Fa- ther's World". Minutes were read by Mary Anne Wheeler. The treasurer's report was given by Ken Hop- per. The Mission theme for this year is "Brazil and Trini- dad in the Christian Commun- ity". The leader, Mrs. Stan Hopper read the first part of the story "Mystery in Brazilia". The theme for the worship service was "Being Truly. Hon- est". "0 Worship the King" was sung. The offering was re- ceived by Gordon Rinn and Scripture was read by Carol Walker, Stephen Fear and Kar- en Pengelly. Prayer was given by Mrs. Hopper and Donna Walker distributed the World Friends. Webster Died in Hospital The death of a well known West Wawanosh resident occur- red at the Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital on Saturday. Mrs, William Webster, who was 73 years of age, was the former Edna Jane Taylor. Mrs. Webster is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Cliff (Jean) Henderson, of Brucefield and Mrs. Stuart (Lois) Chamney, East Wawanosh Twp; one son, George, of West Wa- wanosh; four brothers, George, William and Lawrence Taylor, all of Victoria, B.C., and Harvey Taylor of Kinburn; and three sisters, Mrs. Earle (Helen) Lawson, Clinton; Miss Flo- rence Taylor, Victoria and Mrs. Vernon (Annie) Dale of Kinburn. Funeral service was conduct- ed at the MacKenzie funeral home in Lucknow on Monday with interment in Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. LOST TWO FAMILIES Two families moved away from Bluevale last week. Alan Barnard, who has had a position in Stratford for some time, moved with his wife and two children, Betty and Russel. Will Hall has taken over a bakery business in Glencoe and Mrs. Hall and the family, Joan Karen, Bill, Douglas, Brian and Donna moved there at theweek- end.
