Mr. and Mrs, Bert Garniss
were in Toronto on Saturday,
attending the Leishman -Aber-
nathy wedding. They spent
the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Overend of Milton.
Mr. and Mrs. W, J. Pea-
cock and family spent the
Thanksgiving week -end in Ot-
tawa.

Dies at Residence
Death came suddenly to Miss
Beatrice Kathleen Pringle at her
home on Leopold Street on
Wednesday, October 7, after
several months in hospital.
Miss Pringle, 65, was a na-
tive of Wingham and a daughter
of the late William D. Pringle
and Barbara McTaggart. She
attended public and high
schools here and was a life-
long member of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church,
Miss Pringle was a member
of the Women's Missionary So-
ciety of the church and was a
Sunday School teacher for 50
years. She was a zealous work-
er in the Canadian Bible Soci-
ety, During the war years Miss
Pringle was secretary of the
Red Cross and she also contrib-
uted many hours in the work of
the Women's Auxiliary of the
Wingham and District Hospital,
She was a valued member of
the Library Board.
She leaves no immediate fa-
mily but is mourned by her
friend and companion, Miss
Christine Isbister, with whom
she had lived for 28 years.
Service was conducted at the
R, A, Currie and Sons funeral
home on Saturday afternoon by
her minister, Rev. Gordon L.
Fish of St. Andrew's Church.

The pallbearers were John
Donaldson, William E. Ford,
Gordon Leggatt, Charles W.

Sister Passes
in Stratford
Mrs. Robert Mason, 348
Queen Street, Stratford and
formerly of Wingham, died in
Avon Crest Hospital on Satur-
day in her 85th year.
The former Melinda Jane
Barbour was born in Chilliwack,
B.C. and came to Wingham as
a child with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Barbour.
Mrs. Mason was active in
Sunday School and the women's
organizations of Wingham Uni-
ted Church when she lived here.
She went to Stratford in 1946
to live with her daughter, Mrs,
Wilfred Levy, where she has
since been a member of St.
John's United Church.
Mr. Mason died in 1929.
She was also predeceased by a
daughter, Jean, in 1919 and
a son, Cpl. Chas. W. Mason
of Ottawa in 1942.
Surviving are her two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Wilfred (Margaret)
Levy and Mrs. Frank (Marion)
Labelle of Scarborough; a bro-
ther, Charles A. Barbour of
Chilliwack; a sister, Miss
Minnie Barbour of Wingham
and five grandchildren, Robert
and Frederick Mason of Ottawa,
Carol Anne, Bobbie and Charlie
Labelle of Scarborough.
Funeral service was held at
the S. J. Walker funeral home
on Tuesday, Rev, C, M. Jar-
dine officiated and pallbearers
were Ed Brodhagen and Pierre
Levesseur of Stratford, J, H,
Crawford, Andy Scott, Gordon
Buchanan and A. D. MacWil-
liam. Her two grandsons, Bob
and Fred Mason, were flower
bearers.
Burial was in Wingham Ce-
metery.
Mrs. D. O. Stokes
Buried Saturday
Mrs. David Omar Stokes of
R. R. 2, Wingham, died in
Wingham and District Hospital
on Wednesday, October 7, two
months after the death of her
husband. She had been ill only
a short time,
Born in Carrick Township
83 years ago, Elsi, rances
Teskey was a daughter of Jas,
Edmund Teskey and Hannah
Maria Wade. She married Mr.
Stokes in Belmore on April 21,
1908. She was a member of
Belmore Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Stokes is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Win, A. (Sadie)
Tiffin of Wingham and a son,
Jaynes Omar Stokes ;.t home.
A daughter, Mrs. Ivan (Ruth)
Haugh, predeceased her, and
a son died in infancy.
There are five grandchildren,
a sister, Mrs, Bertha Eveleigh
of Kitchener and a brother, Da-
vid Teskey, of 13inbrook, sur-
viving.
Rev, C. M. Jardine and Rev.
F. Lowman officiated on Sat-
urday afternoon when service
was held at the R. A. Currie &
Sons funeral home.
The pallbearers were Or-
ville Teskey, of i3inbrook and
James Eveleigh of I3elwood,
nephews of Mrs. Stokes, Sclah
Breckenridge, Reuben Appleby,
John Stokes and Alvin Mundell,
Floral tributes were carried by
Lorne ILie of I;lora and Glenn
Appleby.
Burial was in Wingham Ce-
metery.

Met Wednesday
LAKBLET- The McIntosh
United Church Women met at
the home of Mrs, Jack Inglis
on Wednesday, The theme of
the meeting was Thanksgiving
with devotions led by Mrs,
Robert Wood and Scripture read
by Mrs. Oliver Pustow, The
roll call, a Thanksgiving
thought, was responded to by 21
members,
Mrs. Bruce Harkness, con-
vener for Community Friend-
ship and Flowers, reported the
boxes sent to shut-ins during
the year, Mrs, Robert Wood
reported for Literature.and
Periodicals Committee, and
Mrs, Charles Scott discussed
the progress of the quilting
committee, As usual the No-
vember meeting takes the form
of a bazaar.
Mrs. (Rev.) Steven took
charge of the study period, and
gave an interesting and inform-
ative talk on "Illegitimacy and
Some Contributing Factors".
The meeting closed with the
benediction and lunch was serv-
ed by Mrs. Eldon Renwick,
Miss Francis Inglis and Mrs,
Jack Inglis.
Evening Unit
Holds Meeting
BELGRAVE-The evening un-
it of the U.C. W. was held on
Thursday evening in the church
basement with Mrs. Sam Pletch
as hostess. Mrs. Roy Mac -
Sween opened the meeting with
prayer, followed by a hymn.
Responsive reading was from
Psalm selection 723. Scripture
was read by Mrs. James Coul-
tes and Mrs, MacSween read th.
the meditation and led in pray-
er. A hymn was sung followed
by the minutes of the last
meeting by Mrs. Ross Anderson.
Mrs, Alan Dunbar read the
treasurer's report. Roll call and
the visits to sick and shut-ins
were recorded.
Delegates to the regional
meeting to be held at Ethel on
October 20 are Mrs, Jake Muel-
wyk and Mrs. Lewis Stone-
house. The study on Brazil
was taken by Mrs. Cliff Logan,
Mrs. William Coultes and Mrs.
Roy MacSween. Hymn "Who
is on the Lord's Side' was sung.
Mrs. William Coultes conduct-
ed the Bible study. Mrs. Laura
Johnston and her group served
lunch. Mrs. Ted Fear will be
hostess for the next meeting.

The annual bowling tourna.
ment of the Wingham Ladies'
Auxiliary to Branch 180 was
held last Wednesday with about
200 attending.
Twenty-five teams partici-
pated from the district with
Hanover taking home the Berry
Door Trophy, which was pre-
sented by i-lerb Fuller, They
were followed by Listowel,
second, Walkerton, third,
Walkerton, fourth, Wingham,
fifth and Exeter, sixth.
High single of 303 went to
Mrs. M, Connell, Kincardine
and high triple of 701 went to
Mrs, F. Friedman of Harriston,
