Mrs. Graham, assistant di- rector of staff education at To- ronto General Hospital, was speaking at a workshop on nurs- ing care in Clinton Legion Hall The workshop was sponsored by Huron County Chapter of Re- gistered Nurses Association of Ontario District 2, and was at- tended by nurses from Wing - ham, Exeter, Goderich, Sea - forth and Clinton. Mrs. Graham said that hos- pitals must have a good orien- tation program as well as a solid staff education program tc help registered nurses who wish to return to duty. She said a refresher program must be geared to assist murses at var- ious levels since registered nurses may have been inactive for 1U to 40 years. Mrs. Doran Thornton, Gor- rie, president of Huron Chap- ter, said that it is to be hoped that the workshop will induce a number of nurses to return to active duty in the nursing pro- fession. Other speakers were Mrs. Louise Robertson of Goderich, recently appointed nursing sup- ervisor for the Huron County Health Unit, and Dr. Wm. A. Tillmann, department of psy- chiatry, St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mrs. Robertson spoke on the modern trends in public health nursing and the broadened pub- lic health program. Dr. Till - mann spoke on the emotionally disturbed patient in today's hospital. Convener of the workshop was Miss Zina Hopwood, di- rector of nursing at Wingham and District Hospital. To prevent the edge of a pie from browning too much, place a 1-1/2 inch strip of aluminum foil around the edge of the pastry. Teachers Meet Mrs. Charles O'Malley, the principal of Sacred Heart School, and the teachers, Miss Doris Troupe and Mrs. Bill Kinahan, attended a teachers' convention in Ripley last Friday. Mr. Kinlan of the Depart- ment of Education and Mr. Waldie, public school inspector from Walkerton, discussed the new approach to mathematics. Teachers of Bruce Inspector- ates 1 and 3 and separate school teachers of the Walkerton dis- trict attended the meeting. Hold Shower for Miss M. Ritchie Friends and relatives of Miss Marilynn Ritchie, whose mar- riage to Douglas Lapp takes place tomorrow, gathered for a shower in the town hall on Monday of last week. The hostesses were Miss Mary Harman, Miss Donna Hutchison and Mrs. Kathy Neal, co-work- ers at the Wingham branch of the Toronto -Dominion Bank. An address was read and the bride -elect was presented with a number of gifts. She thanked those present and invited them to her trousseau tea. Married 50 Years BELGRAVE- A well known Morris Township couple, Mr. and Mrs. James Michie, cele- brated their golden wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Oc- tober '7. Mr. and Mrs. Michie were married 50 years ago at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert T. Cole of the 6th line of Morris Town- ship by Reverend A. M, Boyle, of Belgrave. They still reside on the 5th line of Morris, on the farm they went to when they were first married. They have two children, George, R. R. 4, Brussels and Barbara (Mrs. Ross Anderson) of Belgrave and six grandchil- dren. Open house was held at thei. home yesterday and a family dinner will be held on Thanks- giving Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Michie. Ritchie, Al- bert St., Wingham, entertained at a trousseau tea on Tuesday of last week for her only daughter, Marilynn Gail, whose marriage to Douglas H. Lapp takes place Friday, October 9, in the Wing - ham United Church. The tea table was covered with a white linen cloth and was centred with an arrange- ment of mauve dahlias and gold mums, and fern in a crystal bowl, flanked by white tapers in silver candlesticks. Receiving guests with the bride -elect were her mother and the mother of the grodm- elect, Mrs, Willis Lapp. Miss Olive Lapp was in charge of the guest book. Miss Mary Louise Harman displayed the linens, Mrs. Mac Ritchie showed the trousseau, Miss Don- na Hutchison showed the china and silverware, and Mrs. Ray- mond Neal showed the gifts. Presiding at the tea table wa Mrs. William Orr, grand- mother of the groom -elect, Mrs. George Goodfellow, aunt of the bride -elect, Miss Mary Haugh, Mrs. Thos. O'Malley, Mrs. John Colvin, Mrs. Eva Brownlie and Mrs. Percy Cas- lick served the lunch. Auxiliary Forms Bowling League (Intended for last week) The Ladies' Auxiliary to the Legion met last week so that the delegates, Mrs. Jack Gorrie and Mrs. Keith McLaughlin could attend the convention in North Bay this week. Mrs. Bill Hogg was pianist. There were 32 in attendance. Five bowling teams were formed to play on Tuesday eve- nings. Mrs. Helen Casemore is the secretary of the bowling league and Mrs. Percy Deyell treasurer. Team captains are Mrs. Bill Renwick, Mrs. Sperl- ing Yeo, Mrs. Ken Sinnamon, Mrs. George Brooks, and Mrs. Dave Crothers. Invitations have been received to bowl in Exeter and Owen Sound tourna- ments. C First Meeting for Wingham Club The first meeting of the Wingham 4-H Club was held October 5th at 4 p.m., open- ing with the ode, pledge, mot- to and creed. The members were then given the "objectiveg' of the project "The Club Girl Stands on Guard." Mrs, Hut- ton, the leajder, told some of the things about the project. Mrs. Lapp, assistant leader, gave notes on "The Club Girl, as a Canadian Citizen." It was decided the next meeting will be on the 19th of this month. The meeting clos- ed with "The More We Get To- gether." RECEIVES SCROLL FORDWICH -Mrs. Jennie Mosure has received a beautiful framed scroll from the Ontario Government in honor of her 92nd birthday. Rally Day at United S.S. Rally Day was observed by the Sunday School of Wingham United Church on Sunday morn- ing when promotion exercises were held. The opening hymn was fol- lowed by Scripture, read by the assistant superintendent, Rich- ard Wehmeyet, A missionary offering was received. Sheila and Barbara France sang a duet. They were ac- companied by their sister, Miss Greta France. During the promotion exer- cises 21 six -year-olds graduat- ed from the beginners'to the primary class. This is an ex- ceptionally large class to be promoted. Russell Zurbrigg, superin- tendent, gave three short stories to introduce the New Curricul- um, which will be started on Sunday. PERSONAL NOTES -Rev. William Taylor of Dorchester spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Tay- lor and attended the silver an- niversary dinner of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Chamney, Bel - grave, on Saturday evening. -Mrs. S. Cowan has return- ed home after spending the past two weeks at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Thompson in Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson brought her home on Saturday and spent the week- end here. -Mrs. G. 1-1. Hamilton in Luck - now last Wednesday. -Mr. Wayne Caslick, stu- dent at the University of Wes- tern Ontario, London, spent the week -end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Caslick. -Mrs. Ethel Aitcheson was hostess at a birthday party for her aunt, Mrs. Nellie Wellings when friends from Teeswater, Aylmer and Wingham attended. -Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dreh- mann spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Drehmann of Goderich. -Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Haines of Aylmer, visited last week with his sister, Mrs. Wm. Well- ings and niece, Mrs. Ethel Aitcheson. -Mrs. Richard Chamney is spending a month with her daughter and son-in-law in St. Marys. --Mr. David Benedict is vi- siting with his daughter, Mrs. Wahl and Mr. Wahl, in Water- loo for a couple of weeks, -Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cerson and two children of Toronto moved here a week ago last Saturday. McLaughlin of De- troit and Mrs, Cecil Chamney of Wingham were Sunday visit- ors with Mr, and Mrs. Sam Thompson and family, All had attended the 25th wedding an- niversary of Mr. and Mrs. Clar- ence Chamney, East Wawanosh on Saturday evening, Friends Honor Dianne Jackson A shower was held last Sat- urday evening in the council chambers for Miss Dianne Jack- son when friends, neighbours and relatives gathered to hon- our her on her coming marriage Games and contests were conducted by the hostesses, Miss Reta Redma n and Miss Joan Chittick. Miss Jackson was presented with an electric fry -pan, an electric tea kettle, a mix -master, bathroom scales, an ironing board and cover, an aluminum tray and many other smaller gifts. Miss Jackson graciously thanked everyone for her love- ly gifts. Lunch was served. Teachers Told Of Educational TV Broadcasting The first meeting of the Wingham Unit of the Federated Women Teachers of Ontario for the 1964-1965 season was held Monday evening, October 5 in Wingham Public School. The president, Mrs. D. Thornton, welcomed thosepre- sent, especially the new mem- bers. A short article on the use of hypnosis as a teaching aid was read. Mrs. J. R. Kaufman, the guest speaker, spoke on "Util- ization of Educational Tele- vision." During the past sum- mer, Mrs. Kaufman attended a course on educational televis- ion at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, The speaker was introduced by Mrs. M. Moffat and thanked by Mrs. M. Mundell. The next meeting will be held at Howick Central School. Lunch was served by MissJ. Armitage, Mrs. I. Wheeler, Mrs. M. Mundell, and Miss S. Johnston.
