Workshop Urces \urses
Return to Active Duy
"Because of the nursing
shortage, hospitals could util-
ize a greater number of nurses
returning to the profession,"
Mrs. Leonie Graham told about
60 district nurses last Wednes-
day.
Mrs. Graham, assistant di-
rector of staff education at To-
ronto General Hospital, was
speaking at a workshop on nurs-
ing care in Clinton Legion Hall
The workshop was sponsored by
Huron County Chapter of Re-
gistered Nurses Association of
Ontario District 2, and was at-
tended by nurses from Wing -
ham, Exeter, Goderich, Sea -
forth and Clinton.
Mrs. Graham said that hos-
pitals must have a good orien-
tation program as well as a
solid staff education program tc
help registered nurses who wish
to return to duty. She said a
refresher program must be
geared to assist murses at var-
ious levels since registered
nurses may have been inactive
for 1U to 40 years.
Mrs. Doran Thornton, Gor-
rie, president of Huron Chap-
ter, said that it is to be hoped
that the workshop will induce a
number of nurses to return to
active duty in the nursing pro-
fession.
Other speakers were Mrs.
Louise Robertson of Goderich,
recently appointed nursing sup-
ervisor for the Huron County
Health Unit, and Dr. Wm. A.
Tillmann, department of psy-
chiatry, St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Mrs. Robertson spoke on the
modern trends in public health
nursing and the broadened pub-
lic health program. Dr. Till -
mann spoke on the emotionally
disturbed patient in today's
hospital.
Convener of the workshop
was Miss Zina Hopwood, di-
rector of nursing at Wingham
and District Hospital.
