Ned Landry, to be seen on No-
vember Oth. It was taped in
Toronto last June, There will
also be three Perry Como spe-
cials which will originate with
an American network, so it
will be nice to have old Per
back again, even if it is for
only three shows a year. Next
week's production (Cctober5th)
will be the first dramatic of-
fering of the season. Entitled
"I Ran Into This Zulu", it is a
two -character play written by
a 36 -year-old playwright from
New York, Malcolm Marmor-
stein, and it is expected to
reach Broadway eventually. It
is the story of a successful Ne-
gro actor, and a famous Am-
erican dramatist who has been
commissioned to write a play
for him. It stars American dra-
matist who has been commis-
sioned to write a play for him.
It stars American actor Billy
Dee Williams as the actor, and
our own Jack Creley as the
playwright. Its Broadway cast
has not yet been chosen. The
first "Instant TV" show from
Europe will be seen on October
12th, starring France's Juliette
Greco and Germany's Kessler
Twins (Remember them from
the Red Skelton Show?) in a
production fileted in Munich.
They will be followed on the
19th, by the first Wayne and
Shuster Hour, starring the top
Canadian comics, and special
guests. This, I believe, is go-
ing to he a fabulous series, and
one which will really place Ca-
nada at the top of the variety -
producing networks in North
America. Eight p.rn. is the
show's tithe.

Following this variety hour
at nine on Monday evenings,
will be an English suspense ser-
ies entitled "Danger Man".
This series is no stranger to us;
we saw it three seasons ago, but

Tuesday evening is an eve-
ning of laughs, to be supplied
by two greats in their class,
Jack Benny and Danny Kaye„
Both in CBS -Television City -
originated shows, they have
now moved into Canada, after
many successful seasons in the
U.S. Jack Benny has been with
us before, but it's always nice
to have him back. His first
show, with guest Lucille Ball,
was definitely not the best
that these two can do, though.
Ordinarily, he's rated right up
there at the top with his great
friends, George Burns, Bob Hope
and George Jessel. His regu-
lars include singer Dennis Day,
Eddie Anderson who plays Ro-
chester, and of course, Don
Wilson, who has been with him
since he began in radio.

Danny Kaye's only intro-
duction to us via television, has
been an odd special here and
there, so it's marvellous to
have him with us every week.
(Tuesdays, at 8:30). He is
truly one of the most versatile
and funniest guys in Hollywood.
Last week's show, with guest
Gwen Verdon was extremely en-
tertaining. He shines in every-
thing he does, but is really a
standout in comedy skits, as in
the one about 'Jerome' who
meets a blind date for the first
time. And the more Gwen
Verdon appears on variety
shows, the more talented she
becomes. "Front Page Chal-
lenge" has also returned, with
a different producer, but the
same format.

No Deer Season
In Huron County
GODERICH-Iluron County
council does not favor an open
season for deer in the county
this fall, Huron is one of eight
counties in the western half of
the province of which the dis-
trict forester, E.K.E. Dreyer,
Iiespeler, made enquiry. Pro-
vided sufficient support is re-
ceived, he stated in a letter,
"it is our purpose to declare a
three-day open season."
Council's agricultural com-
mittee reported against the pro-
posal,
It was felt by the committee
that the deer population is not
great and it would be better if
the county did not have an open
season this year.
'64 Deer Season
Looks Brighter
The 1963 deer season was a
disappointing one to many hun-
ters. Except for the western
region and Manitoulin Island,
which produced very goodhunt-
ing, success rates in most areas
dropped in 1963.
Very unseasonable weather
was largely responsible for the
decline in success last year.
Southern Ontario had rain al-
most every day during the sea-
son; in Central Ontario mid-
summer temperatures coupled
rival of the Royal Yacht at
Charlottetown and the opening
of the Father's of Confederation
Building); and 10:00 p.m. (a
repeat of that); Wednesday at

and Saturday, the 10th at

Quebec City.
with drought reduced the hun-
ter's chances considerably.
On the brighter side, pros-
pects for a much better season
in 1964 are excellent. Little
snow fell across the eastern deer
range last winter and the "livid
was easy" for deer, Well nour-
ished does should produce a
healthy fawn crop, and the
deer which eluded the hunter
last year should be awaiting
him this corning fall. In Wes -
tern Ontario, deer should still

can be optimistic. Let us hope
that slightly more suitable
weather for deer hunting pre-
vails!

use? The wife will still find it.
