S„ after spending the vacation months with their grandparents, Mr, and Mrs, George Griffith. Mr, Jack Griffith, Mr. John McCutcheon and Mr. Bert Nix- on drove them to Malton from where they went home by air. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Weppler, Chesley, Mr, and Mrs. Dan Walkom and Jeanie Marie of Paris visited their par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Walker at the week -end. Mr. and Mrs, Walker returned home with the latter couple for a vi- sit, Mr. Clarence Clement and Mrs. Margaret Millen of To- ronto spent the week -end with Mrs. Clarence Clement. Ross Toman's and Miss Lynne Wright arrived home on Sunday from a vacation spent at McKellar. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Ingrate and Sharon of Stratford visited Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ingram. Mr. G. R. Gibson of Ham- ilton was a week -end visitor with Misses Elsie and Marion Gibson. Mr. and Mrs. George Gib- son and Murray, Mrs. W. Weir Funeral on Friday For Miss Harris Miss Verna A. Harris died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon- don, on Wednesday of lastweek in her'ilst year. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon at the Moir funeral home in Gor- rie, with Rev. J. S. Stewart of Molesworth Presbyterian Church and Rev. G. L. Fish of St. Andrew's, Wingham, con- ducting the service. The pallbearers were a neighbor, Arnold Halliday, and nephews, Mac Newton, Al- lan, Glen and Murray Under- wood, and Raymond Kermath. Interment was in Wroxeter Ce- metery. Miss Harris was born in Howick Township and was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Barris. She attended S.S. No. 13 Howick. For a number of years she was em- ployed in the Molesworth and Paris areas. She was then on the staff at Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital for about eight years, retiring only this past year. Miss Harris waa a member of :Molesworth Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by two brothers, Albert in 1358 and Frank in May 1364. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Estella) Kermath, Mrs. Wesley ( Edna) Underwood and Mrs. Edward (Alice) Newt- on, and one brother, Ernest V. Harris, all of Howick Township. There are several nieces and nephews. and Miss Gertrude Bush were in Goderich on Sunday where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Allister Green. :Miss Glenis Gibson and Miss Linda Green returned to their respective homes. Mrs. Alonzo Spading and Miss Hazel Sparling spent last week in Goderich with Mrs, Angus Carmichael, Mr. and 'vies, James Robertson and fam- ily. Mt. and Mrs, Fari Baker and family of Ottawa visited Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Biggins during the week -end. Messers Paul and Bill Hig- gins have returned to their schools for the new term at St, Joseph's Island and Brantford. Miss Anne Douglas is teaching at Ottawa this term. Mr. Kenneth Walker, Galt, spent the week -end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Walker. Miss Evelyn Jewell of Ham- ilton was a week -end guest with Mr. and Mrs, Laurie Van- Velsor. Monday visitors with Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman were Mr, and Mrs. Elgin Hoffman of Clinton. Mrs, Lloyd Jacques of Lakelet and Miss Nancy Jacques of Kitchener visited Miss Ger- trude Bush and Mrs, W. Weir one day last week. Miss Hazel Sparling ac- companied Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Robertson of Goderich to Lon- don on Saturday where they at- tended the funeral of their Mrs. Parker Eurig Conducts Worship FORDWICH-The general meeting of the United Church Women was held on Thursday in the Sunday school room. Mrs. Parker Eurig was in charge of the worship service. Her theme was "Harvest" and she gave a meditation on the beautiful things of life, which are usually the common, everyday bless- ings. Scripture was read by Miss Minnie McElwain. Bible study from "The Word and the Way" was taken by Mrs. Anson Ruttan assisted by Miss Minnie McEl- wain, Mrs. J. Wilson, Mrs. H. Pollock and Mrs. George Pitten- dreigh. The special feature was a solo, "In Times Like These", sung by Miss M. Mc- Elwain. Mrs. Wm. Wilson, presi- dent, conducted the business. A thank you note was received from the Ettinger family and an invitation was accepted to meet with St. Anne's Guild at the Anglican Church. Announcements were made for a leadership training course in Clinton September 30 and October 1, and for the North Regional meeting in Ethel on October 20, consul, the late Ronnie Steller, who was killed in an auto acci- dent at Flginfield early Thurs- day morning, Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs, George Galbraith were their son, Ward and Mrs. Gal- braith, of Richmond, Va., Mr, Wm, Ferguson of Edmonton and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kennedy and son Bruce, Dunnville, George and Mrs. Galbraith visited the latter's cousins, Mrs. :Andrew McKee and daughter Miss Della McKee of Winnipeg at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Alvin, Atwood, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs, Fraser Haugh have returned from a month's vacation through the Western Provinces and came home by the United States. They visit- ed relatives at Emo, Emerson, Brandon, Russell, Banff and Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Carman Nix- on and family returned home to Scarborough on Saturday. Little five-year-old Eileen Mil- lar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Millar, who was burned six weeks ago with flaming grease, was able to return home from Palmerston Hospital on Thursday. Mr. Lloyd Nickel is confined to Palmerston Hospital, suffer- ing from boils. Miss Lenore Beswitberick ar- rived home Sunday from Central France, where she attended the the University of Dijon for four weeks. She also visited for four weeks in Southern and Northern Ireland. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hunt and three children visited on Sun- day with Mr. and Mrs, Terry Pym in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. They Hainstock of Milton visited over the week- end with Mrs. W. Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Hodgson of Woodbridge visited on Sat- urday with Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Jordan. Birthday Party For L. Ruttan GORRIE-Leonard Ruttan of R. R. 1, Gorrie was pleasantly surprised when 24 members of his family and grandchildren gathered at his home on the occasion of his 80th birthday on Sunday. The family presented him with an appropriate gift. Members were present from Listowel and Kitchener, Blue - vale, Fordwich and Gorrie com- munity. Marjorie Connell Weds Keith Duncan FORDWICH—Baskets of white gladioli, ferns and canda- labra decorated the United 'Church here on Saturday afternoon for the double -ring ceremony uniting in marriage Marjorie Elizabeth Connell and Keith Clarence Duncan. Rev, A. C. Coles officiated and Mrs, Ken Graham presided at the organ. Richard Zurhrigg of Listowel sang `Bless This House," "Wedding Prayer" and "The Lord's Prayer." The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Connell of Fordwieh and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs, Clarence Duncan of Atwood. The bride chose a floor -length gown of Scotch satin with fitted bodice, long lily -point sleeve$ and the neckline trimmed with cut velvet and alencon lace in a rose pattern. A detachable chapel train fell from a large how at back waistline and her shoulder -length veil of pure silk illusion was held by a headdress of silk organza petals trimmed with pearls. She was given in marriage by her father. Mrs. Shirley Bott of Alma was matron of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Audrey Ruttan, Miss Doris Carswell and Miss Jan Foster. The attend. ants were attired in ballerina - length gowns of royal blue peau de soic styled with bell shaped skirts and trains extend- ing from the scooped backs to the hemlines. They wore match- ing headdresses and carried white carnations interlaced with pink roses. The groom's brother, George Duncan of Monkton, was best man. The ushers were Fred Mc- Cann of Fordwieh, Kenneth Duncan of Bracebridge and Jim Duncan of Atwood. The bride's table was decor- ated with a three-storey wedding cake, candles and pale pink roses, for the dinner at Danny's Restaurant. Thy bride's mother wore a gold corded taffeta sheath with black accessories and a corsage of pink rosettes. The groom's mother chose a teal blue bro- caded ensemble. Mt. and Mrs. Duncan, who will live in Toronto, went on a short honeymoon to northern points. The bride wore a three- piece suit of turquoise Italiatt cotton with black accessories for travelling.
