Huron Highest
In Farrn Loans
Figures recently released by
Hon. William A. Stewart, min-
ister of agriculture for the Pro-
vince of Ontario, give renewed
evidence of the leading position
occupied by the County of Hu-
ron in the field of agriculture.
The loans, approved under
the Ontario Junior Farmer Esta-
blishment Loan Corporation to-
talled 87 with a gross dollar
value of $1, 238, 000, surpass-
ing all other counties in the
province. Next highest on the
list is the County of Grey with
a total of 75 loans with a value
of $919, 100 and Perth with 58
loans for a value of $910, 550.
The period covered is from
May 13, 1963 to August 13,
1964, during which the Estab-
lishment made a total of 977
TAILGATERS TRESPASS on the protective space
behind other cars by following too closely.
They caused over 7,000 accidents in Ontario last year because
they didn't leave a safe stopping distance between cars,
Safe stopping distance is at least one car length
between your car and the one ahead for every
10 miles of speed. At 60 miles an hour you should
be six car lengths behind the car in front of you.
if a tailgater is following you too closely, here's a tip from the Ontario
Safety League. Slow down a bit to leave more space between your car and the
one ahead. With extra stopping room in front, you're not so likely to have to
come to a quick stop ... and not so likely to be rear-ended by the tailgater.
C I A Co-operators Insurance Association
and
Co-operators Life Insurance Association
loans for a gross value of $14, -
500,630.
' The program is part of the
Ontario government's agricul-
tural assistance program and is
specifically designed to aid
younger farmers who are trying
to establish themselves on a
sound financial basis in agricul-
ture.
In passing on the informa-
tion to us Hon. Charles S. Mac -
Naughton of Exeter, provincial
member for Huron and Minister
of Highways in the Robarts ad-
ministration points out, "This
information is significant tome
for a number ofreasons--prin-
cipally that it recognizes the
intensive and very efficient na-
ture of the agriculture industry
in Huron, and substantially and
effectively the fact that agri-
culture still plays such a pre-
dominant role in the economy
of our county."
