Sandra Riley Weds F. Riehl
Wingham United Church was
the setting when Sandra Patricia
Riley and Frank Wilfred Riehl
exchanged marriage vows. Rev.
Gordon L. Fish officiated. The
bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ferguson Riley, Wingham
and the groom is the son of
Mrs. Wilfred Riehl, Wingham,
and the late Mr. Riehl.
The bride chose a floor -
length gown of chantilly lace
over taffeta. Embroidered seed
pearls accented the fitted bo-
dice, which was styled with sa-
brina neckline and lilypoint
sleeves. A crown of miniature
pearls held her bouffant elbow -
length veil and she carried a
crescent shaped bouquet of deep
pink roses.

BRIDE'S LUNCHEON
HELD IN TORONTO
Miss Peggy Ahara entertain-
ed at a bride's luncheon in
Simpson's Arcadian Court, To-
ronto, at noon on August 15 in
honor of the wedding attendants
for her forthcoming marriage.
Guests were Miss Mary Ahara,
sister of the bride -elect, Miss
Margaret Morrey, Miss Kather-
ine McConney of Toronto, cou-
sin of the bride -elect and Miss
Janet McGee, niece of the
groom -elect.
Also present were hermother,
Mrs. Robert Ahara, Mrs. Fred
McGee, sister of the groom -
elect and Mrs. Douglas McCon-
ney of Toronto, an aunt.
The luncheon table was set
with pink and white carnations,
pink candles and matching ser-
viettes. Miss Ahara presented
her wedding attendants with
gifts and also received a lovely
gift from those present.
as her sister's maid of honor
wore a street -length gown of
pink organza over taffeta styled
with jewel neckline and bell-
shaped skirt.
Wayne Riehl, Wingham, was
his brother's best man and Fred
Riehl, Toronto, Mac R i t c h i e
Wingham and Barry Fuller,
Wingham were ushers.
For a wedding trip to Mani-
toulin Island and the United
States, the bride chose a yel-
low two-piece wool suit with
black accessories.
The couple will reside in
Wingham.
SUSANNE REYNOLDS
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Les
Reynolds, of R. R. 3, Wing -
ham, earned an Ontario
Scholarship. Students must
have at least 80 percent on
eight Grade XIII papers to be
eligible for the scholarship.

Friends Honor
Barbara Coultes
At Two Functions
A miscellaneous shower was
held in honor of Miss Barbara
Coultes at the home of Mrs.
Norman Coultes. The hostess
was assisted by Mrs. Ronald
Coultes, Ruth Coultes and Lyn-
da Coultes.
Barbara was delightfully sur-
prised to find her friends as-
sembled and waiting for her.
She was greeted with a song of
best wishes for her future happi-
ness. Seated in a decorated
chair, Barbara enjoyed the
mock wedding dramatized by
Joyce Coultes, minister; Bren-
da Coultes, the bride; Doris
Coultes, the groom and Dar-
lene Coultes as the ring -bearer.
A very enjoyable evening
was spent in games and con-
tests.
Mrs. Norman Coultes read
an address extending the good
wishes of many neighbours and
friends. Barbara thanked eve-
ryone for the lovely gifts. A
delicious lunch was served.
A miscellaneous shower was
held in honor of Miss Coultes
at CFRB Radio Station when the
staff presented many gifts and
remembrances. Before her de-
parture Barbara was also pre-
sented with matching silver en-
tree dish, relish tray, cream
and sugar and tray. The staff
extended their good wishes for
her continued success in radio
work.
Miss Ruth Ann Hueston Weds David George Scott
Ruth Ann Hueston of Toronto
was given in marriage by her
brother, Brock Hueston, in a
wedding ceremony at Wingham
United Church, when she ex-
changed vows with David
George Scott, also of Toronto.
The bride is a daughter of
Mrs. Knowlson Hueston of
Wingham and the late Mr.
Hueston, and the groom's par-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. George
Scott, of Wingham.
Rev. Gordon L. Fish per-
formed the ceremony on theaf-
ternoon of August 15.
The bridal gown was of rich
bemberg faille. The elegance
of the fitted bodice was en-
hanced by a row of tiny seed
pearls along the scooped neck-

Cancer Society Members Show Films
BELGRAVE-The August
meeting of the Women's Insti-
tute was held in the Commun-
ity Centre. Mrs. Stanley Cook
presided.
The 4H course for the fall
will be "The Club Girl Stands
on Guard" and any girl wishing
to take this course is asked to
get in touch with Mrs. Clark
Johnston or Mrs. Clarence Han-
na, the two leaders. The Sep-
tember meeting of the Institute
will be held on Monday, Sep-
tember 14 at 8:15 p.m.
Mrs. Lyle Hopper was con-
vener for the health program,
the theme being "Good Health
Is God's Greatest Gift". The
roll call was answered by a first
aid hint for the home, Mar-
garet Nicholson, accompanied
by Joyce Proctor, sang "He"
and "Whatever Will Be Will
Be", The penny collection
for Mental Health was received
and the regular collection.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Doyle and
Todd visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Sid Patrick of King and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Bridge in Toronto over
the week -end. Mr. and Mrs.
Doyle and Todd are returning
to Camp Petawawa Thursday.
-Mrs. Stewart Cowan at-
tended the funeral of her aunt,
Mrs. John E. Amsbury in Strat-
ford on August 22nd.

tion in St. Joseph's Hospital,

-Miss Margaret King leaves
Montreal on Friday to fly to
Goose Bay, where she will
teach next year. Patrick and
Richard King drove her to Mon-
treal.
Mrs. George Scott of Wing -
ham introduced the film, "The
Woven Thread", a travelogue
of Canada from Coast to Coast
showing the main centres
where cancer research is being
carried on. Mrs. D. S. Mac -
Naughton, president of the
Wingham Branch of the Cancer
Society, told of the work being
done in cancer locally. Mrs.
MacNaughton introduced the
second film, "To Smoke or
Not to Smoke" and conducted
a quiz on points raised by the
film.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Cliff Logan, Mrs. Albert Vin-
cent, Mrs. Carl Procter.

ticated beauty. A delicate
faille crown appliqued with
pearls and lace held a floor -
length veil. She carried a cas-
cade ofpink and white roses.
The bride's attendants were
her sister, Miss Heather Hues -
ton as maid of honor, and Miss
Greer Dunlop and Mrs. James
Moffat as bridesmaids. They
were gowned in floor -length
aqua shantung dresses featuring
high scooped necklines, elbow -
length sleeves and aqua velvet
sashes that tied in flat bows at
the back and extended to the
floor. They wore short white
gloves and carried cascades of
white shasta mums.
Richard Scott was his broth-
er's groomsman and George
Gregg and Michael McKay,
both of Toronto, were ushers.
For the wedding trip to Nia-
gara Falls, New York, Wash-
ington and Virginia, the bride
chose a three-piece oyster li-
nen suit with black accessories,
and a corsage of gold mums.
Mrs. Scott is a graduate of
Stratford Teachers' College and
is teaching in Toronto. Mr.
Scott is a graduate of Radio
College and is employed by Ra-
dio Station CFRB in Toronto.

ATTENDS OTTAWA
STUDY CONFERENCE
Miss Dorothe Comber, home
economics teacher at Wingham
District High School, attended
a summer study conference on
Family Development at Carle-
ton University, Ottawa, August
10 to 21.
The purpose of the confer-
ence was to acquaint teachers
with the new course of study
from the Ontario Department of
Education for Grade 11 home
economics, which goes into ef-
fect this month, Half of the
students' year will be devoted
to history of home life in On-
tario, functions of the family,
family customs in other coun-
tries, food customs of families
around the world, etc.
In addition to the interest-
ing lectures there was an all -
day trip to Upper Canada Vil-
lage. The delegates also en-
joyed a series of foreign dinners
which included Italian, Chin-
ese, Lebanese, French and
Jewish dishes.
Bid Farewell
At Wiener Roast
On Saturday afternoon the
Belmore I 4-H homemaking
club held a surprise party and
wiener roast at the Turnberry
park to honor Miss Georgina
Kieffer who left on Monday to
join the order of the Sisters of
St. Joseph in London.
On behalf of the club mem-
bers she was presented with a
book of meditation by a former
club president, Miss Lois Sim-
mons with best wishes for suc-
cess in her future life. Georg-
ina thanked the girls for their
kindness in remembering her
and a social hour was enjoyed.
