District Farmer
David Omar Stokes of R. R. 2,
Wingham died on Tuesday of
last week in the Wingham and
District Hospital following a
serious illness of one week. He
had been in poor health for a
year and a half. Mr. Stokes
was 77.
He was a son of the late
Thomas Stokes and Margaret
Query and was born on lot 3,
con. 11, Turnberry Township,
He attended S. S. 3, Glenan-
nan and became a farmer as a
young man, and made farming
his lifetime occupation,
On April 21, 1909, he mar-
ried Elsie Frances Teskey of
Carrick Township. They were
married at Belmore.
Mr. Stokes is survived by
his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Wm,
(Sadie) Tiffin of Wingham and
a son, James O. Stokes of
Turnberry, A son died in in-
fancy and a daughter, Mrs. Ivan
(Ruth) Haugh predeceased him
in 1961.
Also surviving are five grand-
children and a brother, Oliver
Stokes of Wingham. Three
brothers and five sisters are
deceased.
Mr. Stokes was a member of
Belmore Presbyterian Church.
Rev. T, F, Kennedy offici-
ated on Friday afternoon when
service was held at the R. A,
Currie and Sons funeral home
with interment in Wingham Ce-
metery,
Pallbearers were Glenn and
Rueben Appleby, Russel Baird,
Harry Mulve., John Stokes and
James Ballagh. Flower hearers
were Barry, I'eter and Keith
Mulvey and i?ouglas MacLeod.

Mrs. John Haley and chil-
dren of Sudbury visited at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Gadke Wednesday and Thursday
of last week.
A new five foot ski jump has
been constructed at Lakelet and
was used for the first time on
Sunday, in spite of the low
temperatures. The brave skiers
were Glenn Reidt and Ron and
Bradley Gadke.
Mr. Ronald Dickert, who is
employed at Campbells at Lis-
towel , has been holidaying at
his home here.
Mrs. Leslie Edwards and
children of London are visiting
with relatives in the surround-
ing area.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Miller
and family visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Dettman on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Roedding
and daughter of Bridgeport visit-
ed with Mr. and Mrs. Delmar
Dickert on Sunday.

of Niagara Falls, N, Y, , spent
the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Wright.

Giles of Lambeth spent Sunday
afternoon visiting with Mr, and
Mrs. Everitt Sparling at their
cottage on Mid Huron Beach,

LAKELET- The regular
monthly meeting of the McIn-
tosh UCW was held last Wed-
nesday in the church basement
with Mrs. Charles Scott as
hostess.
The meeting opened with
devotions led by Lois Ferguson.
Scripture was read by Lynda
Harkness followed by medita-
tion and prayer.
Roll call was responded to by
17 members and five guests.
Short reports were given by
conveners of program and so-
cial functions committees.
The study program was ta-
ken by Miss Isabel Darling and
Miss Audrey Scott who gave an
interesting description of Nepal,
its religious, medical, educa-
tional and agricultural out-
looks.
The meeting closed with the
Lord's prayer and lunch was
served by Marian Scott, Lynda
Harkness, Janette Wright and
Lois Ferguson.
