able beat with them and more
than just the teenagers acknow-
ledge the fact that they have
talent - somewhere - and like
their Mersey sound, All of us
like to hear Al Cherny when
he gets on the business end of
the bow, whether he plays a
wild Czechoslovakian dance,
a beautiful ballad, or 'Grand-
pa's Reel', We're willing to
call anyone who plays an in-
strument, a 'musician' as long
as he can play that instrument
relatively well and brighten our
otherwise dull day with a bit of
music. Chilean pianist Claud-
io Arrau was named as guest on
CBC's "Festival" last week, and
sick feelings came upon many
of us. 'Not a whole hour of
that stuff', we murmurmed.
Well, guest he was, and play
he did, and I almost wanted to
look into his piano to see
where those gorgeous sounds
were coming from. He played
only two numbers, by Mozart
and Beethoven, in that order,
and even if I'm stealing a line
from Guy Lombardo, it surely
must have been the 'sweetest
music this side of heaven', It
isn't hard to see why he is
world- famous for his piano gen-
ius, The show was produced
and filmed in Montreal a num-
ber of months ago. Listening to
Beethoven's music as played by
Mr. Arrau, brought out an un-
canny resemblance to rock-and-
roll. It has been said that if
the past musical greats like the
3 Bs, Mozart, and the like,
could hear today's music they
would turn over in their graves,
but I'm not so sure. It would
not have been at all impossible
to jive or do a mad twist to
Beethoven's music. Perhaps if
Claudio Arrau were to play
our modern-day music, it
would get a better name. His
magic touch would make any-
thing sound magnificent.

Kitchener television pro-
gramming is undergoing a fair
amount of changes for the sum-
mer months. The Pierre Ber-
ton Show has been added to its
roster, as it also has at London's
CFPL -TV. CKCO's time is
Saturday evenings at 10; top
Canadians and Americans are
listed guests. "The Texan", an
old friend of ours, which stars
Rory Calhoun, moves into the
9 p.m, Monday slot as summer
replacement for Phil Silvers.
"The Jetsons" is seen on Tues-
days at 6:30, replacing "Petti-
coat Junction", Specials during
the first week in July include
the "Billy Graham Crusade", on
Monday 6th and Thursday 9th
at 7;:30 p.m., and on Tuesday.
'ith at 8:30 p. m. All three are
one hour in length. Some fine
motion pictures are being shown
on CKCO TV in the near future,
too. Among the standouts are
"Cynthia" with Elizabeth Tay-
lor, at 11:40 p. m. on July `2nd;
an English picture "Woman for
Joe" starring Diane Cilento and
George Baker, on the following
evening's 'Late Date' at 11:40;
"Harvey Girls" with Judy Gar-
land on Saturday, July 4th at
8 p, tn.; and 'Julia Misbehaveg'
starring Elizabeth Taylor and
2eter Lawford at 11:40 on July
10th. Will try to keep you up-
to-date on the changes made in
TV 13's great summer viewing.

night, July 4th. It is a recent
picture; in fact, it is still mak-
ing the theatre circuit. Rosa-
lind Russell plays the title role,
and you may never stop laugh-
ing at her. She won an Aca-
demy Award nomination for
best actress in this role in 1959,
but lost out to Susan Hayward in
"I Want to Live". The picture
itself was nominated as best
picture; "Gigi" defeated it.
So it didn't win; it's still one
of the best comedies to curve
along in a month of Sundays.
Do not miss it!
