Police Turn on
Cruiser Lights
As Reminder
As a safer,. measure Pro
-
vincr.rl Police cruisers are
travelling with their headlights
turned on, eken during the day
time, .until rip a.m. next
M.i.iay. It is believed the
authorities that the headlights
on the cruisers may reminddri-
ers to take extra precautions
this week, which has Dominion
Day on Wednesday and the Am-
erican holiday on the week-
end.
Statistics issued by the de-
partment indicated that the six -
count; district, which includes
Heron, had four accidents dur-
ing May in which five people
lost their lives, out of a total
of 321 crashes. Eighty-six peo-
ple were listed as injured in the
same area during the month of
May. The police checked
6, -14 vehicles, issued 2,225
warnings and preferred charges
in 1,1)73 cases.
On the provincial scene
some 75 people died on the
highways during May in 64 fa-
tal accidents. The grand total
of 2,521 accidents which were
reported also injured 1, 651 peo-
ple.
RALLY 'ROUND THE FLAG
The history of mankind is
closely associated with the his-
tory of flags. For centuries,
most countries, states, cities,
(and even many families)have
had their distinctive flag orem-
blem. The history of flags can
be traced back at least to the
time of Moses and Aaron, who
were commanded, "Each man
shall pitch (his tent) by his own
standard, with the ensign of his
father's house."
