Severe Storm
Hits District
WIJITBCHURCH-A severe
electrical storm hit this area on
Tuesday night. Three of Geo.
McGee's cows, which had
young calves, were killed by
lightning when they bedded
down beside a fence.
The electric fence on the
farm of Keith Rock was put out
of commission.
The family of Harry Swan
had a bad scare when they saw
fire which they thought would
ignite the house and made
their escape through the door.
No damage occurred but the
hydro was disrupted for a time.
The homes of Mr. and Mrs.
MeWhinney, Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Gaunt and Bill Forester
were also without hydro for
awhile because of the storm,
Those who say you can't
take it with you never saw a
car packed for a vacation trip.

WHITECHURCH-- Thirteen
members of the Calvin -Brick
ll. C. W. went on a bus trip to
Five Oaks, near Paris, on Mon-
day of last week. There were
three ladies from Donnybrook,
eleven from Belgrave and two
from Bluevale.
They had their lunch on the
patio and later the group was
divided and each of the two
groups was taken by a leader on
a tour of the buildings. There
are 120 acres at Five Oaks.
Rev. Beverley Oaten ex-
plained the work being done at
Five Oaks as a training centre
for all age groups from teen-
agers to adults. It is supported
by the capital fund, to which
all United Churches contribute.
In some things it's a good
idea to "meet trouble half-
way". But not when you're
driving. Keep right away from
traffic trouble, if you possibly
can. Go out of your way to
prevent an accident.
