McGee's cows, which had young calves, were killed by lightning when they bedded down beside a fence. The electric fence on the farm of Keith Rock was put out of commission. The family of Harry Swan had a bad scare when they saw fire which they thought would ignite the house and made their escape through the door. No damage occurred but the hydro was disrupted for a time. The homes of Mr. and Mrs. MeWhinney, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gaunt and Bill Forester were also without hydro for awhile because of the storm, Those who say you can't take it with you never saw a car packed for a vacation trip. No, 10 took a bus trip on Friday, under the supervision of their teacher, Mrs. Ken Wheeler. The mothers who ac• companied the group were Mrs. Hugh Simpson, Mrs. Joe Tif- fin, Mrs. Clarence Ritchie, Mrs. Dawson Craig, Mrs. Har- ry Swan, Mrs. Don Ross, Mrs. Dan Tiffin and Mrs, Bertha de Groot. The bus driver was Allan Reed. They visited the farm of Reg. Scholtz to see his tame and wild fowl. At the Blyth Cheese Factory they were treat• ed to ice cream and in Clinton they toured the Sherlock -Man- ning piano factory. ' Sea - forth the pupils saw shoes being made at the shoe factory. Lunch was eaten in the Shakespearean Gardens on the banks of the Avon River at Stratford. The group then went to the fire hall, the Jack Hood Supplies where each re- ceived a pencil and a map of Canada, The final call was made at the Stratford Beacon - Herald office and the children were given a copy of the day's paper. Ladies Visit At Five Oaks WHITECHURCH-- Thirteen members of the Calvin -Brick ll. C. W. went on a bus trip to Five Oaks, near Paris, on Mon- day of last week. There were three ladies from Donnybrook, eleven from Belgrave and two from Bluevale. They had their lunch on the patio and later the group was divided and each of the two groups was taken by a leader on a tour of the buildings. There are 120 acres at Five Oaks. Rev. Beverley Oaten ex- plained the work being done at Five Oaks as a training centre for all age groups from teen- agers to adults. It is supported by the capital fund, to which all United Churches contribute. In some things it's a good idea to "meet trouble half- way". But not when you're driving. Keep right away from traffic trouble, if you possibly can. Go out of your way to prevent an accident. Mrs. Milian Moore gave three readings and a saxaphone duet was played by Wayne and Garner Farrier, accompanied by Mrs, Farrier. A quartette consisting of Alnia Conn, Jo- anne Laidlaw, Irene de Boer and Sharon Rinroul sang, "Sing, Smile and Prav" . Dr. Little of Lucknl'w played violinsolos, accompanied by Joyce Conn and Mrs, Annie McQuillangave a reading. Rei. Gordon Fish of \s'ing- ham spo:<.e briefly on the sacri- fices of our fort•fathtrs and the contributions they leads which should he appreciated by the present congregation. He also extended greetings on behalf of his congregation and the presbytery. Gordon Leggatt sang solos, Mrs. Victor Emerson gave read- ings and Miss Rosalie Phillips played two accordion solos. Bill Jeffray sang a solo, ac- companied by George Conn. Mr. and Mrs. Simon de Boer of St. Helens sang a duet, "Near- er My God to Thee". The last selection was an organ number by George Conn.
