Heart Church, Wingham, on Saturday, May 16, at 11:30
a.m. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Shaw,
of Bluevale, and the bride, the former Frances Caskan-
ette, is the daughter of Mr• and Mrs. Frank Caskanette,

Dies from Heart Attack
Suffered in Local Armouries
Sgt. Major Lloyd E. Bean,
•lit, a call -out with the 21st
Regiment, RCA(\1), of Listo-
wel, died on Wednesday of
last week in Westminster hos-
pital, London. Death followed
a heart attack suffered three
weeks earlier while Ott duty in
the Wingham Armouries.
He enlisted with the 100th
Batten -on S < ternber 29 1939i
and trained as a gunner inListo•
wel and Petawawa. He went
overseas in 11141 and was pro-
moted to tilt rank of regimen-
tal quartermaster sergeant in
11144 while serving in France.

At Lions Club
Speaker Tells of African Communism
At a meeting of the Wing -
ham Lions Club held in the
Queens hotel on Tuesday eve-
ning a donation of $150,00 was
made to the Wingham and Dis-
trict Association for Retarded
Children, to assist with the im-
provements at the school,
The Goderich Lions Club
has accepted the responsibility
of providing a monthly bingo
game for the patients at the

Mrs. Violet W. Gillett, vet.

don, England, passed away in
Wingham and District Hospital
on Wed iesd ly, May 20th in
her t lst year.
Twelve years ago airs. Gil-
lett cams: to Canada to visit
friends at Oshawa. She held
positions in Peterboro'.Igh and
Toronto before coming to
Winghatn ten years ago.
During her years in Wing -
ham she devoted all her time
to the care and 'caching of
Raddie Paul with outstanding
success. For the past year
Nits. Gillett was unable to car-
ry on `his wort due to
ued 111 health.
Mrs. Gillett had a'<eei
mind. She was an avid reader
of good books and enjoyed
aroadcasts of discussions, news
and good music, She kept
abreast of all political situa-
tions and was well-informzd of
happcn°n;;s all over the globe.
The funeral was held fro'.n
the R. A. Currie and Sons fun-
eral, home on Friday and was
conducted by Captain Newman
of the Salvation Army. The
pallbearers were \Vi11ia'n For-
syth, Louis Hutton, John Lang -
ridge, Robert Mundy, NIL"ray
Taylor and Barry Wenger, Bur-
ial was in Wingham cemetery,
Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. B. Battersly and two
grandchildren of Guilford, Eng-
land,

The Wingham Lions Club will
participate in this project by
looking after the bingo game
for the month of October.
The District "A" Conventior
will he held in Kitchener on
May :i1, June 1, 2, and :3,11W4,
The parade will be held on
Sunday \lay 31 at 2 p, m. Club
representatives will report to
the parade marshall not later
than 1,00 p.m, Business for-
ums will be held on Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday at
rhe Kitchener Auditorium,
Voting takes place on Wednes-
day morning.
The guest speaker, Ilugh
Saben, sales representative of
the Pfizer Company Limited,
was introduced by Lion Presi-
dent Lee Vance. Mr. Saben
was born in Kenya and educat-
ed in England and at McGill
University. After receiving
his Bachelor of Science Degtee
at McGill, he returned to Ken-
ya, where he directed a large
land holding which employed
270 families, until he was de-
ported as undesirable by the
communist -dominated govern-
ment in December, 19(33,
when he returned to Canada.
He outlined the spread of
communism•in Africa and con-
ditions resulting from the rise
of black nationalism as inspires
by subersive action of com-
munist -trained agents in Ken-
ya, Uganda and Tanganyika in
East Africa.
Plans were formulated for
presentation of the program
"Cavalcade of Stars", which
will be presented in the Wing -
ham Arena on Thursday eve-
ning, June 25. This program
is produced by James M. Cole
of New York and features 12
famous international acts.
Arrangements are being
made for "ladies night" which
will he held on Wednesday,
June 24.
