Mrs. \lary Sanderson of Kit- chener spent the week -end with \lr. and Mrs. Dave Dinsmore. Mr. and Mrs. Jing Patterson and Kenneth of Toronto were weak -end visitors with Mrs. Pearl Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. John Wyld of Dernoines, Illinois, U.S.A. , are visiting with their daughter and son -in -law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cober for several weeks. Mrs. Roy Elsner of Brock- ington, Sask. , is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jacobson. Mrs. Martha Baker of Wing - ham and her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Giles of Arkona, visited friends in the village one day last week. Niias Gertrude Kieffer of Belmore spent a day last week with Miss Janie Iiambly. Mrs. Joan Dunbar and four children returned to Toronto last week after spending the winter months with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Len Wilson. Mrs. Wilson spent the week -end in Scarboro with her mother, Mrs. Florence Groves. Custard Cuties Complete Course WIIITECHURCII-The Cus- tard Curies , Diane Coultes, Beverley Soloman, Sandra Fi- sher, Alma Conn, Tereasa De Bruyn, :Marlene Weber and Janis Farrier, with their leaders Mrs. Dan Tiffin and Mrs. Tom Nlagoffin attended Bruce South 4-H Achievement Day held in Kincardine high School Satur- day afternoon. The Custard Cuties gave an exhibit, "The Nlilk Bar" which demonstrated five drinks for any occasion made with milk. Miss Beverley Soloman gave the commentary for the exhibit. All received a spoon and Miss Beverley Solomon r e - ceived her County Honors cer- tificate, having completed six projects. The fall project is "Sleeping Garments." Mrs. Garnet Farrier and Mr. Victor Emerson provided cars for the Cuties and spent the day with friends in Kincardine. Honor Father on 85th Birthday WHITECHURCtf -On Satur- day evening, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Purdon of Lucknow were in- vited to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Cassie Falcon- er, who had prepared a surprise 85th birthday party for her fa- ther. NIr. and Mrs. Purdon were seated at the table cent- tred with the decorated birth- day cake and dinner was served buffet style. Present for the occasion were members of their family, Mrs. Falconer, Mrs. Jack Cleg- horn of Wingham, Mrs. George (Isobel) Tiffin of Lucknow, Mrs. Jack (Florence) Maclntyre of Wingham, Athol and Hector Purdon of Sarnia and their hus- bands, wives and families. :Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Purdon ROSS McKAY DIES AT PT. HOPE WHITECHURCH-Last Mon- day, word was received here of the passing of Ross McKay of Port Hope. He was a son of Nlrs, Sarah McKay and the late Neil McKay, whose farm was the one now owned by Fred Tif- fin. The late Mr. McKay was a retired policeman. He will be remembered by many of the ol- der residents and his mother, Mrs. Sarah McKay, yearly vis- its old friends of the Langside district. and family of Petroit were not able to be present. Other guests for the occa- sion were Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Wellwood and Mrs. Art Cronin of Caledon, JiIr! Falconer and Lois, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tif- fin and Mrs. Myrtle Dawson. The family presented \Ir. Purdon with a gift of money and he received many other gifts. The community extends best wishes and many more years of health. W.I. Euchre WHITECHURCH-On Wed- nesday the Women's Institute held a euchre party in the Com. munity Memorial Hall, which was decorated with a profusion of yellow and white daffodils. There were 15 tables in play, Mrs. Cora McGill won the prize for being high lady with a white card. Mrs. Aldin Pur - don won the prize for high lady with a pink card and Mrs.Jim Halliday won the prize for the most lone hands. The hostesses served lunch and all enjoyed a social time. Reynolds Sisters Conduct Worship WITECHURCII-The Y. P. S. met on Tuesday evening in the United Church Sunday School room. The president, Elwin Moore, presided for the busi- ness session. A sing song was enjoyed by the 24 attenders. On Friday evening the so- ciety was invited to a Record Ilop sponsored by the Tees - water Y. P. S. Many from here attended. The next meeting will be held May 12. Misses Susanne and Wendy Reynods had charge of the meeting on Citizenship and Community Service. Miss Su- sanne Reynolds gave the call to worship. A hymn was sung and Miss Wendy Reynods led in prayer. Miss Susanne Reynolds read the Scripture and led the discussion on the topic, " No man is an island to himself." She also gave a poem. Anoth- er hymn was sung and Miss Wendy Reynolds gave the clos- ing prayer. Bride: We furnished our kit- chen with soap coupons. Friend: And what about the other rooms? Bride: Oh, they're filled with soap. Grandchildren Win Medals at Music Festival WIIITECHURCII-At Peel County Music Festival held on Wednesday at Brampton, elev- en -year-old Colleen Farrier of Long Branch was awarded 80 marks for piano sight reading in the under 15 year class. She won seven gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals, - a total of 14 medals which won for her the title of Queen of Peel Festival and she also won a Junior piano scholar. ship. She and her brother, Brian, 12, were awarded 88 marks and a gold medal for the piano duet class. Brian also came first in a piano ear test with 80 marks,, which won for him a silver me- dal. Ile won three gold me- dals, three silver medals and two bronze medals, a total of eight medals. Colleen and Brian are the daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Carman Farrier of Long Branch. Their grandparents are Mrs. W.R. Farrier ofWlhite- church and Mr. and Mrs. Net- son Higgins, Morris Township.
