Zurbrigg, formerly of Ford-
wich and now living at Callen-
der Nursing Home in Brussels,
celebrated her 80th birthday on
Wednesday, April 22nd. Sever-
al of her old neighbors from
Fordwich visited her and enjoy-
ed birthday cake and tea.

Operates 39 Years
FORDWICH-W. A. Wallace
has been reappointed com-
missioner of the Howick Muni-
cipal Telephone Company for
a three-year term. The ap-
pointment was made at the
company's annual meeting in
the Fordwich Community Hall.
Royden Devitt was named
secretary -treasurer. The finan-
cial statement showed a net
profit for the year of $1,852 on
total revenue of $18, 617.
Speaker at the meeting was
Harold Schmidt of Baden, who
said the dial telephone cannot
replace the. local operator's
functions in a rural district
where operators are competent.
Last year was the company's
39th year of operation.

FRIDAY NIGHT
FORDWICH—Mr. and Mrs.
Cloyne Michel were honored
at a presentation in the Gorrie
Community Hall on Friday eve-
ning.
Mrs. Richard Carson read the
address and Earl King and Rich-
ard Carson presented them with
a coppertone card table and
chair set. Miss Karen Michel
received a lead crystal salad
bowl, cream, sugar and tray
set. Willoughby Orchestra sup-
plied music for dancing.

were in Malton Saturday where
they met their daughter, Miss
Margaret Wilson, who returned
after a 10 days' visit to Wash-
ington, New York and Mont-

daughter. in Palmerston Hos-
pital, on April 23rd.
D -Day Church
Parade Planned
FORDWICH-The Ladies'
Auxiliary to Howick Legion
met in the Legion rpoms with
Mrs. Alex Graham presiding.
Plans were discussed for the
zone rally at Exeter on June
3rd. Thank you cards were
read from members who were
sick. Plans for a D -Day church
parade were made and two
branches will be invited to join
in the service. The zone com-
mander, Mrs. Wm. McCann,
paid her official visit. She said,
"Never criticize a man until
you have walked a mile in his
shoes."
The mystery prize was won
by Mrs. Jack Clark and donated
by Mrs. Emma Williamson. A
special prize, donated by Mrs.
Ross Doig, was won by Mrs.
McCann and a travelling basket
was circulated among members.
Two members served a delic-
ious lunch.
PULPIT EXCHANGE
BLUEVALE-Rev. T. Nelson
of Cranbrook and Ethel, preach-
ed in Knox Presbyterian Church
Bluevale, and Knox Presbyter-
ian Church, Belmore, on Sun-
day. Rev. T.E. Kennedy of
Bluevale, preached in Ashfield
and Ripley. This was part of a
Presbytery exchange of minis-
ters.
Carol Robertson
Receives Gifts
BLUEVALE-The shower for
Miss Carol Robertson, bride-to-
be, held in the school room of
Knox Presbyterian Church on
Saturday evening, had a large
attendance.
The school room was nicely
decorated with spring flowers
and streamers.
Mrs. Nora Moffatt played
the bridal chorus when the bride
took her place, accompanied
by her mother, Mrs. Donald
Robertson, and the mother of
the prospective. groom, Mrs.
Jack Nicholson. Many beauti-
ful gifts were received for which
the bride voiced her apprecia-
tion.
Misses Kathy and Mary Craig,
Anne Peacock, Mrs. Alvin
Gamble and Mrs. Clifford Brew-
er were in charge of the ar-
rangements. Some contests
were enjoyed and delicious re-
freshments were served.

Mr. and Mrs. Willows
Mountain and Mrs. Elgin Jos -
ling of Londesboro visited Tues-
day with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley
Jefferson and family.
Mr. Bert Thompson of Bel -
grave spent several days with
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thompson
and family. On Thursday, Mrs.
Thompson held a birthday par-
ty for her daughter, Jane, who
was celebrating her fourth birth-
day. Judy Robinson, Faye
Hildebrand, Joyce Chamncy
and Debbie Jefferson were
guests at the party.
