WMS, Ladies® Aid
Meetings Are Held
WHITECHURCH-Chalmers
Presbyterian Church W.M.S.
held its meeting on Wednesday.
The president, Mrs. Victor.
Emerson welcomed all 17 mem-
bers and one child and opened
the meeting with spring poems.
The roll call was answered with
la verse of Scripture, containing
the word "Light".
The minutes were read by
secretary, Mrs. Jacob Kuiper.
A letter was read from the mis-
sionary, Mrs. Lilian R. Dickson,
Taipei, Taiwan, thanking the
society for used greeting cards.
They print a verse of Scripture
in Chinese on these cards and
give their: to children and adults
on all occasions. The bale re-
quirements are baby layettes,
warm mitts, men's sociis, chil-
dren's clothing, clothing forel-
derly fold, quilts, gifts for
adult hospital patients. The
used clothing must be clean,
not mended, not out of date.
The treasurer's statement
showed a balance of $43.53.
The next meeting,. May 20,•
will be under the leadership of
Mrs. Dawson Craig and Mrs.
Jacob Kuiper with 'Ars. Ira Wall
and :'ass M. Laidlaw ashelpers.
Prayer was given by Miss
Lila Emerson and Scripture
readings and meditation were
given by Mrs. Andrew Gaunt.
Mrs. Russel Ross had charge of
the chapter in the study book,
"Presbyterianism in the Bhil
Field and Jhansi Field in India" .
She mads her message impres-
sive with a large map she had
made to show where the work
is done. She also conducted
a Bible contest and gave theof-
fertory prayer.
The Ladies' Aid then met.
The treasurer, Mrs. H. D. Mac-
Donald, reported a balance of
$30.47. The question of a sub -
floor and new covering for a
floor at the manse was dis-
cussed. It was decided to do
the work and Mrs. Andrew
Gaunt, Mrs. James McInnes
and Mrs. Jacob Kuiper are the
committee in charge. A com-
mittee to decorate and obtain
flowers for•anniversary in May
is Mrs. Dawson Craig, Mrs.
Andrew Gaunt, Mrs. Frank
Coulter, Mrs. Russel Ross, Mrs.
Jacob Kuiper. The new work
corninittee is Mrs. Donald Mc-
Donald, Mrs. II. D. MacDonald
and Mrs. W. R. Purdon, Mrs.
Emerson closed the meeting
with prayer.

Mr. Alfred Buckton re-
turned from Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital to the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Thos. Morri-
son and Mr. Morrison.
Mrs. Don Gray, Bonnie,
Tommy and Donald of London,
spent the week-.nd with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ma-
goffin.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wright
and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Emer-
son of Penetanguishene spent
the week -end with Miss Lila
Emerson.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Swan,
Wayne, Nancy, George and
baby visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Wadel of
Zurich.

walk leading up to the front
steps of Chalmers Presbyterian
Church.

ly of Winham.

chie of Langside spent Sunday

The Y. P.S. held a bowling
party in Lucknow last Wednes-
day evening in the new bowling
alley. Those who attended re-
port an enjoyable evening and
on Saturday evening the Society
enjoyed dancing to music sup-
plied by Arthur Laidlaw's record
player in Whitechurch Commu-
nity Memorial Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Simp-
son and family visited on Sun-
day with her mother, Mrs.
Struthers of Lucknow.
The farmers of this com-
munity report that the ground
is real dry and works up well.
The drone of tractors fills the
air here.
Mr, and Mrs. Tom McIn-
nes of Gorrie were Sunday visit-
ors with Mr. and Mrs. Orville
Tiffin and Mr, and Mrs. James
McInnes.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weber,
Anne, Marlene and Claire visi-
ted on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Lindenschmidt of
Harriston.
Mr. and Mrs. George Walk-
er, accompanied by Miss Lila
Humphrey of St Helens, visited
with Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hum-
phrey on Sunday.
Miss Donna Leader of Luck-
now spent the week -end with
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Currie.
Mr. Hugh David MacDon-
ald began on Monday as shipper
for the U. F. O. at Lucknow.
Mr, arid Mrs. George Tiffin
Mr. and Mrs, Hugh MacMillan,
Gregory and Paul of Lucknow,
were Sunday visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin.
Mr. and Mrs. George Currie
spent the week -end in London
with their relatives, Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Connell, Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Winegarden, and Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry St. Marie. The
ladies are daughters of Mr.and
Mrs. Currie.
Miss Ruth Taylor of Torontc
spent the week -end with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor.
Mr. Jacob Kuiper has com-
pleted his second year term at
Knox College.
Many of the ladies, girls,
and a few men from this com-
munity attended the Fashion
Show in Wingham and District
High School on Wednesday eve-
ning. All were loud in their
praises of the show.
The United Church has cho-
sen June 21st as the date for its
anniversary services, at which
Rev. Jack Thompson of London
will be the guest speaker.
THE LARGE CROWD was welcomed by Mrs. John Ostrom,
president of the B&PW, just prior to the fine showing
of the Hayes Family Clothing collection of spring styles
at the fashion show. The ramp was placed diagonally
in the auditorium so that everyone had an excellent view
