Report from Parliamenl Hill
On April 9th Hon. Yvon Du-
puis, minister without portfolio
in the Liberal government,
speaking in Aylmer in the Pro-
vince of Quebec Indicated that
before too long the government
would introduce legislation de.
signating a distinctive Canadian
flag and a national anthem for
Canada.
On Monday, April 6th 1 re-
ceived a resolution massed at a
recent session of the Welling-
ton County Council. This was a
resolution that stated in no un-
certain terms that the majority
of the duly elected municipal
representatives from the County
of Wellington recommended
that the Canadian Red Ensign
with the shield of the Canadian
coat of arms in the fly he adopt-
ed as the national flag of the
Dominion of Canada.
I have intimated my own feel-
ings in this respect on previous
occasions and, in fact, had a
resolution to the same effect on
the order paper last session.
Some of my readers may have
felt that the two-day debate on
the welfare of the 2.500 Eski-
mos in Northern Quebec wasn't

Aitchison, received his 13th proficiency badge at the
Father and Son banquet last week. The award was the
Life and" Religion badge, the first one earned in Wing -
ham and Ken is one of the very few holders of a Life
and Religion badge in the district. The badge is seen
on his right shoulder, above the Wolf Cubs of Canada

Mrs. Norman Wade Conducts Election
GORRIE-Mrs. Melvin Taylor
was hostess for the April meet-
ing of the Gorrie Women's In-
stitute. The roll call, an item
from the press of another insti-
tute, was answered by 15 mem-
bers,
Mrs. Alex Graham intro-
duced the speaker, K. G. Mus -
clow, field officer, who spoke
and also showed beautiful col-
oured slides mostly of the Gor-
rie Dam and surroundings. Mrs.
Graham presented him with a
gift.
Mrs. Glad Edgar gave the
motto, "Even a woodpecker
owes its success to the fact that
it used its head", which was
prepared by Mrs. Wm. Strong.
Mrs. Norman Wade conduct-
ed the election of officers and

ecutive of Canadian Industries
Limited, Montreal, and is one of
Canada's leading speakers on
the role of chemicals, plasties
and man-made fibres in our
daily living. He is also active
in educational circles being pub-
lic relations chairman and past
president of the Canadian Home
and School and Parent-Teacher
Federation and a member of the
Canadian Education Week corn-
mittee.
Benjamin Maguire Native of Howick
GORRIE- Benjamin James
Maguire, 81, died Monday,
April 6 at the McKay Nursing
Horne, Wingham, after aleng-
thy illness. He was born in
Howick Township, the son of
the late John Maguire and his
wife, Matilda Paisley.
He was an adherent of Gorrie
United Church. Mr. Maguire
had operated a feed and chop-
ping mill in Gorrie for more
than 35 years.
He was unmarried and is
survived by two brothers, John
of Clifford, Dr. Lawrence of St.
Catharines and three sisters,
Mrs. Caroline Wood, of King-
ston, Mrs. Jane Dempsey, Strat-
ford; Mrs. Wallace (1•.` ,tel) Ed-
gar of Wembly, Alta.
Funeral service was held at
the Moir funeral home, Gorrie,
on Thursday conducted by Rev.
Fred W, Taylor of Gorrie Unites
Church. Pallbearers were John
Cathcrs, Norman Wade, Burns
Stewart, Harold King, Harold
Hyndman and Richard Carson,
Interment was in Gorrie Ceme-
tery.

in Walkerton hospital suffering
from virus pneumonia. We ex-
