THE TOUCH OF UPSWEPT LASHES makes
your eyes look larger and more alluring,
since more of the iris is revealed. And since
now light is reflected from them your eyes
look brighter. Curling is a boon to women
who wear glasses as the lashes do not brush
the lenses causing irritation and fogging.

Put Your Foot in a Sling
This year, the fashionable
woman has her foot in a sling.
Pretty slings, sandals and
low-cut pumps in supple light-
weight leather are leading the
fashion parade. The relaxed
line and lady -like air of these
graceful shoes are an integral
part of '64 footwear styling,
which teams perfectly with the
new apparel for a complete
"costume look".
In pump or sandal, the sling-
back has a spring-like delicacy.
The sling's airy charms are
available in a varied assort-
ment of strap widths and forma-
tions, and a diversity of leather
textures. Slim but sturdy soles
provide the foot support and
balance so essential to a wil-
lowy
illowy walk.
A note of caution: When
choosing your shoes, look be -

pers and leather soles -- with
all the comfort, style and pro-
tection that comes from leath-
er's ability to mold to your foot
The classic closed pump
shows off its shallower silhouet-
te, discreetly unadorned or
sporting flat buckles or bows,
tiny button trim or applique. As
with most dress shoe styles, the
mid -heel currently rates No. 1,
though some higher heels are
being worn.
The spectator is still a favor-
ite
avorite for the active woman. For
added interestthis pert promen-
ader combines texture such as
smooth leather with a patent
leather toe, or fine-grained
leather with smooth perforated
trim. Soft, wrinkle -free linings
eliminate discomfort and stock-
ing
tocking snags.
In the shoe color spectrum,
pale tones - frankly feminine --
lead. Bone "stocking tint" col-
ors and pretty pastels bring the
freshness of spring -time to fash-
ion at ground level. Raspberry
combines deliciously with navy,
and shades of red, green and
blue are also important.
Sweaters and Suits Gay, Feminine
Springtime sweaters for the
ladies are lovely, both in the
gay assortment of rich colors
and in styling.
Three looks have found fav-

ters, There's a touch of the
sea in the "Nautical Look",
with an accent on stripes. The
"Tailored Look" is neat but
feminine and feels at home al-
most anywhere and anytime.
And there is an increasing trend
to "Lustre Knits", bright and
eye-catching sweaters that
literally sparkle with beauty.
The Nautical Look comes in
cardigans, buttoned or zipper-
ed, and at least one knitting
company has turned out a smart,
open front cardigan with strip-
ed dickey. The wide stripe
boatneck pullover should also
be popular,
Other stylings include the
short sleeved cardigan and pull-
over with a scoop neckline and
the sleeveless shell either with
jewel necklines or turtlenecks.
The printed bucolenes in pale
pastels dominate when worn
with solid color matching skirts.
All wool bulky knit sweaters

mer evenings,

RounG Eyes Are the
Soft, luxurious eye make-
up; upcurled, fluttery lashes,
set the tone for the new Round
Eyed look this spring, say eye
make-up experts. The heavier
winter eye make-up is too ob-
vious for the revealing spring
sunlight. For the new season,
a new, wide open, round -and -
bright eyed look for day is
recommended with the deeper,
more glittery effects for eve-
ning.
The new look is achieved
in two ways. Firstly all eye
make-up is concentrated to-
wards the centre of the eyes to

make them appear rounder.
Secondly, and the key move in
this look, lashes are curled
permanently upwards with an
eyelash curler while they are
still damp. This makes eyes
appear wide awake, more
open, and more light is reflect-
ed into the iris. Only a curler
will curl lashes - a spiral
brush mascara will only color
them, not curl them.
Surround the eye with deep
soft color by using the new,'
delicate, luminous eye shad-
ows. Select from violet, blue,
green and turquoise to tone with
your eyes and coloring. Lumin-
ous Eye Shadow has a gleam-
ing quality and a soft matte
finish that can't cake in eyelid
creases. The line around the
eyes should appear blended and

any stretching of the delicate

Curlier Look to Hairstyles
Hairstyles for 1964 will show
the return of the romantic look
with more curl, soft waves and
gentle curves. These "curls"
of 1964 are not the tight ones
of the past, but gently curving
loops. According to the Toni
Hairstyling Center, the predic-
tion of "more curls in '64" is
based on the word from Paris
and New York.
The new romantic look in
clothes brings a softer, curlier
look to hairstyles. The severe-
ly straight hairdos will give
way to cherub curls for short
hair, and long hair swept high
in a soft pouf of curls. Women
over twenty-five will welcome
the return of waves and some
Vitality Needed For Hair Styles
The new hair styles for spring
indicate that vitality is needed
so that the hair will spring vib-
rantly away from the head. This
means, of course, that the hair
must be in excellent condition.
Your hairdresser can give tired,
dry or damaged hair a new
lease on life with one or two re-
conditioning treatments.
The smoother, silkier, soft-
er locks are achieved with the
latest in professional products,
properly applied by a compe-
tant hairdresser.
There are styles to appeal to
every age group and for every

fashions require a permanent

PROPER SHAPING
The patron's interest is in the
lasting quality of the styling.
The stylist will consider this in
the shaping, removing excess
bulk to make the hair pliable
and at the same time maintain-
ing sufficient body to avoid fuz-
zy or split ends.
LIPSTICK GIVES
PEARLY LOOK
A new lipstick this season is
worn over your favorite lip-
stick shade to produce a pearl-
ized overglaze for evening.
Used alone it gives the natural
look, which appears to be "in",
as far as cosmetics in 1964 are
concerned.

coming than straight hair.
Hairdos that call for curves
and slight waves in the hair

one that gives plenty of body

Those who want firmer curls
should consider a standard perm-

Paris Scene
Beauty patches have been
revived in Paris! The round,
square, heart or diamond shap-
ed black beauty spots are sup-
posed to have a flirtations con-
notation, depending on where
they are placed. The "naughty
girl" wears her patch in front
of the right ear while the "co-
quette" glues hers on at the cor-
ner of the upper lip.
Beauty experts in Paris, col-
laborating with top dress de-
signers, have come up with
some extreme make-up effects,
with results that are mightly
startling.
Pierre Cardin, for example,
ordered his models to shave off
their eyebrows and powder the
area into complete oblivion.
Models from other salons had
pale, colorless lips or wore a
dead white lipstick.
The Italian couturier, Si-
monetta, achieved the hollow
cheekbone look from his mod-
els with grey streaks slanted
from the temple to each side
of the nose.
One of the leading hairdress-
ers came forth recently with the
"chamber pot" hair style. The
bouffant crown suggests the
shape of an inverted bowl with
a symetrical handle laquered
to stand out over one ear.
Roberto Capucci's last col-
lection this spring was shown
by models wearing shoulder -
length platinum blonde wigs,

low's hair style in the '30s.
fled blouses, the longer formal
gowns and glamorous at-home
clothes. The hair is almost
shoulder length, brushed up and
back to the crown, caught with
a barrette, circle clip or rub-
ber band, with the ends furled
forward on top and sides.
The smooth and sleek look
continues high in favor, for not
every one will give up her
smooth hairdo for curls. One
short, smooth hairstyle features
a free floating curl winging out
on one side, with a cheek curl
on the other. The crown hair is
silky and shining.
The younger set still likes
and will continue to wear a
medium to long hair with curv-
ing ends. But they will add
more definite lines to these
simple, young hairstyles, very
different from the straight -as -
a -stick hairstyles popular with
teens last year. Some hairdos
feature a point of interest at the
back with crown hair captured
with a barrette and ends form-
ing a winged top -knot.
HAIR COLORINGS ARE
MUCH EASIER TO USE
Hair coloring has become
much more popular in recent
years. Nowadays one out of
every three women in larger
Canadian cities uses some form
of hair coloring. Present-day
products are much more reliabl
and products for use in the home
are easier and less messy toap-
ply.
New home coloring products
on the market include a non -
drip type and a new semi-
permanent tint.
WEAR CURL COVER
If you must go out of the
house when your hair is up on
rollers, wear a curl cover, like
one of the drip-dry cotton bon-
nets on the market. It's design-
ed to keep the sun from scortch-
ing your hair on the beach.
Elasticized, with a drawstring,
the bonnet will also cover the
biggest rollers.
DON'T OVERDRESS
If you're not sure about how
dressy an occasion is to be, un-
derdress. You'll he a lot safer
than if you show up in finery
and stand alone in your glory,
go beyond the corner of the
eye.
2. Then blend white eye
shadow in an arc on the frontal
bone, right under the eyebrow. 4
3. Apply luminous eye shad-
ow in a semi -circle between
the two applications of white
eye shadow. For evening blend
silver eye shadow in with the
colored shadow.
4. Using your petite penci-
liner, draw a line along the
upper lid, thickening slightly
in the center and draw a shorr
line in the center of the lower
lid.
continued,
5. At this point, lightly
powder over entire make-up to
give a matte effect, removing
excess from brows and lashes
with an eyebrow brush.
6. Darken lashes with a
spiral brush mascara and, at the
same time, twirl them straight
upwards -- not outwards. Re-
peat on lower lashes.
7. Groom brows in a short,
rounded arch the painless way,
with scissor handled tweezers,
being sure to remove all•hairs
from underneath the brow only.
The bandies are angled to al-
low full vision while you work,
and there's a choice of tip
widths, too - narrow or wide,
and a diagonal tip that's par-
ticularly good for eyeglass
wearers: they can now tweeze
without removing their glasses.
8. Darken and fill in the
eyebrow arch, if necessary,
with light feathery strokes of
your penci-liner,
9. For the finishing touch,
sweep lashes, up, up, upwards
with the eyelash curler.
See how wide open and lum-
inous your eyes look set against
the soft shadowed backgroundl
