Institute Donates To School Fair
BELGRAVE—The Women's
Institute held its education
meeting in the Community
Centre on Tuesday with Mrs.
Ivan Wightman presiding. The
meeting opened with the Insti-
tute Ode and the Mary Stewart
Collect, and the singing of
Finlandia.
A letter was read from the
Provincial President, Mrs. Triv-
ers. A donation of $25.00 was
voted to the Belgrave School
Fair with the following commit-
tee
ommittee to look after the prizes:Mrs.
Lawrence Vannan, Mrs. Cliff
Purdon, Mrs. Black. Any reso-
lutions are to be presented at
the next meeting. The Easter
meeting will be held a week
late, on March 24.
Plans were made to cater to
the Co-op banquet on March 17
and Mrs. Cliff Logan, Mrs.
Cliff Purdon and Mrs. Clarence
Hanna will make the arrange-
ments. The penny collection
for Mental Health was received.
The roll call was answered with
"A television personality I
like".
Mrs. Lawrence Vannan was
convener of the program on
"Education alone can conduct
us to that enjoyment which is at
once, best in quality and in-
finite in quantity". Mrs. Van-
nan introduced the guest speak-
er, Larry Taylor of CKNX, who
is the producer of the T. V,
show "Looking Ahead". After a
short address he showed several
films. Mrs. Stanley Cook
thanked the speaker.
Mrs. Walter Scott gave a
reading, "Trouble in the Kit-
chen". Nancy and Doreen An-
derson, accompanied by Mrs.
Lawrence Vannan, sang two
duets, "A Secret" and "January
and February". Nancy also
favoured with a piano solo.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Lawrence Vannan, Mrs. Jack
Anderson, Mrs. Lyle Hopper.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
CONTEST WINNERS
BELMORE--Miss Mae Johann
and Mrs. Harvey Ballagh were
judges on Monday at the pre-
liminaries of the public speak-
ing contest at Salem School.
Phyllis Bannerman was the win-
ner and will proceed to the
finals in Teeswater.
In Belmore, on Friday, jud-
ges Mrs. Mel. Donahue, Mrs.
Lloyd Sillick, and Miss N. Mot
fat of Teeswater, chose Phyllis
McKague, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ross McKague, to repre-
sent this school in the Friday
night finals.
Former Resident
Passes Suddenly
Miss Kathleen Gibbons,
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Patrick Gibbons, diedsud-
denly at her home, 69 Beatty
Avenue, London, on Thursday,
February 20, in her 65th year.
Her death was attributed to a
coronary.
Deceased was a graduate of
Wingham High School and Strat-
ford Normal. She taught school
in this area for several years,
also in Guelph and later in Lon-
don.
Surviving are four sisters,
Rev. Sister Irenita of St. Jos-
eph's Order, Yellowknife,
N. W . T. , Miss Mary Gibbons,
London, Mrs. Joseph (Agnes)
O'Hagan, and Mrs. Maurice
(Angela) O'Hagan of James-
town, N.Y., and four brothers,
Rev. Fr. John Gibbons of Strath-
more, Alta., James Gibbons of
Wingham, T. Joseph Gibbons
and Blair Gibbons of London. A
brother, Francis, predeceased
her.
The remains rested at the E.
C. Killingsworth funeral home,
London, until Monday, Febru-
ary 24th. Requiem high mass
was celebrated in St. Patrick's
Church at 10 a.m. by Rev. Fr.
M. J. Donadan, C. ss R. Msgr.
J. A. Seeney of London was
present in the sanctuary.
The pallbearers were Fran-
cis J. Gibbons, Dr. R. L. Wil-
son, Michael Gillen, Joseph
Carlin, William Evans and
Frank Hubbard of London.
Interment followed in Sacre
Heart Cemetery, Wingham.
Rev. Fr. G. J. Freker officiat-
ed.
Hi -C Welcomes Councillors
BELGRAVE--The regular
meeting of the Hi -C Group met
on Sunday evening, in the
church school rooms. The
meeting opened with a sing-
song led by Ruth Michie, ac-
companied by Lorne Campbell.
President Max Pletch wel-
comed the new councillors, Mn
and Mrs. Jack Higgins. The
secretary's report was read by
Donna Grasby. Jim Taylor gave
the treasurer's report. The next
meeting will be held in three
weeks' time, March 15, with
David Beecroft in charge.
Max Pletch and Gordon
Campbell were in charge of the
worship service. Max gave the
call to worship followed by the
Scripture reading. A hymn was
sung. Gordon gave the medita-
