It was with regret that Bill Bain, one of our faithful long time members resigned from the brigade. He has served the Town of Wingham as a fireman for the past 20 years. Bill has been one of the captains for a number of years and his long experience will be the town's loss. Harvey Aitcheson, with many years of fire fighting, has r been appointed captain by Chief J. Carr. Another new • • • • r i • around -- The Fire Hall member has joined the brigade, Jack Shaw, bringing the brigade to full strength. On February 10th the fire- men have a night of films from the Ontario Fire Marshal's of- fice and the Boy Scouts and Cubs are invited to attend. Time of training films will be at 7.15 p.m. There will be a social night for firemen and their wives on February 12th and as this could be a Valentine's social, a good turn out is expected. This year there have been two town calls and one rural fire call. Smith presided at the Turnberry Township Council meeting on Saturday, when all members were pre- sent, Communications were re- ceived from the Association of Ontario School Trustees, Huron County Health Unit, W. Ren- wick, clerk -treasurer of Wing - ham, Department of Public 1962, there being eight -calls for the Town of Wingham and 25 rural calls. One fireman, who had the misfortune to fall on a milk bottle during his every day employment, is up and about again. Mike Willie was hos- pitalized for a few days and we hope he has that hand good as new when it somes out of the wraps. Next meeting will be on February 24. Welfare, John G. Berry, clerk - treasurer of Huron County, Mor ris Township, Dept, of Agri- culture, Joseph Peters, Mid - Western Development Assoc., and Dept. of Highways, Strat- ford. It was voted to give a $25 grant to the Huron County Soil and Crop Improvement Assoc. Members of council and of- ficials attending the Assoc. of Rural Municipalities as dele- gates will receive $40 to help pay expenses for two days, and $20 if only staying one day arid all other previous resolutions were repealed. Council will advertise for applications for warble fly inspector. Tenders will be called for warble fly powder and for spraying cattle for 1964, It was also passed that the clerk invite bids from B.A., Supertest, Fina and Imperial gas and fuel supplies for gas, furnace oil and diesel oil for 1964. A by-law is to be prepared regarding road approval ex- penditures for 1964 divided as follows: road construction $9, 500, maintenance $22, 000; bridge and culvert construction, $1, 000, maintenance $1, 300; superintendent and overhead instruction $500; maintenance $2, '700. Calvin -Brick Annual Meeting WHITECHURCH-- On Mon- day afternoon Calvin -Brick Church held its annual meet- ing. Rev. Arthur Jackson pre- sided for the meeting with Lawrence Taylor as secretary. The reports of all depart- ments of the church were ac- cepted as read and advances were made in most depart- ments. The Sunday School and Anniversary services are set for May 31 with Mrs. Arthur Jack- son as guest speaker. The three members elected to the Board of Stewards are Roy Pattison, Mrs. Calvin Rob- inson, and Mason Robinson. The treasurer is Mason Robin- son and the newly appointed trustee is Ronald Coultes. The other trustees are Alex Leaver and Jack Taylor. The offering stewards are Murray Coultes, Jim Taylor, Jim Coultes, Mur- ray Shiel, Peter Mason. Whitechurch Mrs. Farish Moffat of Wing - ham and Mr. Gordon Moffat of CBC Toronto were visitors on Thursday with Miss Emma Richardson and Mr. Graham Moffat of Langside. On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Orville Newby of Chesley visited with her moth- er, Mrs. Annie Lott, prior to leaving on Sunday for Cali- fornia, where they will visit with their son Donald, Mrs. Newby and family. Passes Exam In Theory WHITECHURCH--Miss Joan Tiffin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tiffin, 4th Con. Kin- loss, received word Monday that she passed her Grade II Theory, Royal Conservatory of Music examination held on January 18th in the United Church, Wingham, with first class honours.
