Is1r. Ritchie was held in high esteem as a faith- ful worker and friend. Mr. Ritchie passed away in Wingham District Hospital on January 8th, following a stroke on January 4th. lie was in his 77th year. He was a son of tht late An- drew Ritchie and Ellen hunter and was born March, 1877 on the 12th Con. of Ashfield, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Lyla Little at the home of her father, John Little, Listowel, on Christmas Eve. 1331. Left to mourn his loss are brothers William and Leslie of Lucknow, Chester of Detroit, Russel of Langside, his sister, Mrs. Janet Twamley of Wood- stock, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lila Ritchie, Kitchener, and Mrs. Barbara Ritchie of Lucknow. Mr. Ritchie was predeceased by his wife on February 3rd, 1942, and by his brothersJames, Robert and Gordon. The funeral service was held on Friday at the MacKenzie funeral home, i.ueknow, with interment in South Kinloss mausoleum. Rev. H. W, Strapp officiated. The pall - hearers were six nephews, An- drew, Graydon, Harvey, Har- old, Leonard and Alvin Ritchie. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Chester Twamley and his mother, Mrs. Janet Twamley, Woodstock, Mrs. Lila Ritchie of Kitchener and Alvin Ritchie of Sarnia. EUCHRE PARTY WHITECHt.1RCFI--On Satur- day evening the progressive euchre party was held in Curries School under the supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Morrison and Mr. and Mts. Roy Dawson. There were nine tables in play. Prizes were: high lady, Mrs. Kenneth Currie; low lady, Miss Brenda Coultes; high gent, Al- bert Hall; low gent, Bruce Cur- rie; lone hands, Mrs. AllanMc- Gilland Albert Hall were tied and on a draw Mrs. McGill won the prize. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mus- grove, Walkerton, visited Mrs. Mabel Gilkinson on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Harri- son, Pamela and Valerie of liarriston spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Irving Toner. Mr. and Mrs. Max. Bell, Marilyn and Lorne and Mr, and Mrs. Irving Toner visited re- cently with Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McPherson, Teeswater. NORTHERN HELPERS NAME EXECUTIVE GORRIE--Mrs. Kenneth Has - tie was hostess for the January meeting of the Northern Help- ers Unit of the Gorrie United Church. Mrs. George Hamil- ton gave the study on "India". The executive for 1964 is as follows: leader, Mrs. Milton Luther; asst., Mrs. Alex Taylo>; secretary, Mrs. Fred Hyndman; cheer committee, Mrs. Harry Gowdy and Mrs. Fred Hyndman. St. Stephen's Guild d Meets GORRIE—The January meet- ing of St. Stephen's Guild was held at the home of Mrs. Harry King. The meeting opened with prayer by the 1064 president, Mrs. King. Roll call "Your favorite hobby; was answered by the members present. Mrs. G. A. Anderson gave a most interesting paper on a New Year's meditation. Business was then discussed and a motion was made that the new carpet in the church be paid for. There were two short readings by Mrs. Wm. Bennett and Mrs. Joe Ben- nett. The meeting closed with prayer and a delicious lunch was served by the hostess, as- sisted by Mrs. Jack Bennett. Ford wick News Mr. and Mrs, Carl Jacobson, Alois, Kurt and David returned home Tuesday from a two weeks' vacation with relatives in Saskatchewan. Misses Betty McClement, Sharon Pollock, Audrey Ruttan and Glenna Hibberd of Kitchen- er spent the week -end at their respective homes. Mr. Lloyd Cober returned home after spending two months in Port au Prince, Haiti, where he was employed in the build- ing of homes for people who were in the hurricane disaster area. Miss Yvonne Elsner of Brock- ington, Sask., is spending two months at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jacobson. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Foster of Willowdale, Misses Jean and Marjorie Foster of Torontospent a couple days with their moth- er, Mrs. Ruby Foster, and at- tended the funeral of their grandfather, the late Dick Arm- strong. Mr. Warren Lloyd of Unity, Sask., is visiting for a while with his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Lloyd. Mr. and Mrs. F. Lloyd of Acton spent Saturday at the same home. Gorrie Personals Mr. Wm. Mann, Listowel, and Mr. Gerald Theodorf of Mitchell spent Sunday with the former's daughter, Mrs. Stan- ley Lennox. Mrs. Abagail Babletz and Mr. Edward Schmaus of Ver- dun, Man., spent several days visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bolander. Mr. and Mrs. Justin Will have returned home after spend- ing a month with relatives at Kingsville.
