MISERABLE WEATHER
The storms and snow of last

The worst day was Friday, whey

ALBERT SCHWEITZER'S
MANY-SIDED CAREER
Albert Schweitzer, the
world famous medical mission-
ary of the African jungle, has
earned money in an astonishing
variety of ways to help keep his
outpost hospital going.
Schweitzer was a famous
author at 31; edited the organ
music of Johann Subastian Bach;
was principal of a theological
college as far back as 1903; has
toured both as a lecturer and as
a professional musician; and
won the Nobel Peace Prize. He
has also personally treated tens
of thousands of natives in his
capacity as a doctor of medic-
ine; but this without remuner-
ation.
Christmas
Mail Bag
What better way to greet
holiday guests than with a bright
door decoration that's both fes-
tive and practical.
Instead of using your mail-
box this Christmas, make your
own mail holder with four
roomy pockets large enough for
dozens of greetings and even
small packages. They can be
made at practically no expense
from gay cotton fabrics. •
Cut a rectangle 36 inches by
nine inches, and four separate
sections nine inches square for
the pockets and outline them
with rickrack. Hem the larger
piece, leaving ample space at
the top for a support hanging.
Sew the pockets onto the
larger piece, leaving the top
of each open for mail insertion.
Use scraps of colorful felt,bows
and rickrack for a Christmas
motif, or applique NOEL — one
letter on each pocket. Hang
vertically against a plain back-
ground or with other door trim-
mings.
HEADLIGHT GLARE
Headlight glare at night
bothers some drivers much more
than others. Older drivers are
particularly liable to suffer
from poor "glare recovery" --
i.e. a high -beam headlight
will Dave them dazzled for
many seconds after it has pass-
ed. The Ontario Safety League
suggests that such people should
try shutting one eye when meet-
ing dazzling headlights. Un-
affected by the light of the
passing car, this eye has nor-
mal vision when opened, while
the other is readjusting after
the glare.
