STUDENT COUNCIL
Form delegates dealt with
two matters in a short meeting
last week. First, acting on the
suggestion of Mrs. Davis, head
secretary at W. D. H. S. , they
voted to assign $35.00 to the
decorating committee for the
formal of which Bill McBurney
is in charge. This would allow
the committee to pay bills as
they come and would lessen the
amount of bookkeeping to be
done. Secondly, form repre-
sentatives were asked to obtain
the names of those going to the
formal. This information was
to be used in instituting a new
fun idea at the formal which,
incidentally, is being held on
Friday of this week unless you
have a very slow mail service.
HAMLET
Grades Eleven, Twelve and
Thirteen had the privilege of
seeing Sir Laurence Oliver's
movie, "Hamlet", in the audi-
torium last Monday. Admis-
sion price was a quarter and the
two lunch periods served as an
intermission. (It was shown in
two parts because of its length).
Almost all the viewers enjoyed
it although some had a rather
unfortunate tendency of laugh-
ing at the peak moments oftra-
gedy. The movie was of spec-
ial interest to Grade Thirteen
which is studying "Hamlet" this
year.
Carol Singing
The traditional assemblies
for carol singing were started on
Tuesday of this week. Shortly
before 9:00 the students gather-
ed in the auditorium. The
singing lasted for about a quar-
ter of an hour with Mr. Vivian

Insurrection Planned
It is rumoured that the band -
saw operators in the Industrial
Arts section are planning an un-
armed revolt.
Wrestling
Over twenty wrestlers went
to Listowel last Friday to par-
ticipate in a tournament witn
that high school. They had
gratifying success, particularly
in the lighter weight classes.
Their coach is Mr. Gnay, who
also teaches biology at W.D.
H.S.
Report Cards
Ungrateful students got their
report cards on Tuesday of this
week.
Victory Dance
Last Friday evening a dance
was held in the high school
gymnasium for the triumphant
football team. Members of the
team chose Don McDowell as
Most Valuable Player, Fraser
Strong as Best Linesman, and
Willie Smith (from the cheer-
leaders) as Miss Wingham Mus-
tang.
Basketball
Basketball try -outs began
last week. Miss Munro and
Mrs. Tiffin coach the girls'
teams while Mr. Bender and
Mr. McGlaughlin are in charge
of the junior and senior boys'
teams, respectively.

Squirts May
Still Register
The Squirts, age 6-10 years
practise at the arena Saturday
mornings between 9 and 11
o'clock. The registration is
down considerably with only
approximately 35 youngsters. In
former years there were nearly
60 children in this age group
registered.
Any child who would like to
play hockey and is in this age
group may still register Satur-
day mornings 9-11 o'clock.
Remember parents, all players
must wear a hockey helmet.
This group is ably coached
by Jim Bain and Del Ewing. It
is hoped in the future to have a
squirt club enter several of the
tournaments in our area.

Ornamental
Pineapple
A hospitality pineapple is an
unusual and attractive buffet
decoration that is very simple
to make and will last for sev-
eral days. First, protect the
green crown of the fruit with a
polythene bag - the kind that
vegetables come in is just the
thing - and then spray the pine-
apple with paint,
While the paint is still wet
some ornamentation can be add•
ed - either by sprinkling with
glitter - or affixing sequins to
the pineapple eyes. Wire -
string beads stuck amongst the
green leaves of the crown are a
nice finishing touch, and the
pineapple can then be placed .
on a tray and surrounded with
polored baubles.
Choose a small Christmas
tree, it will be less hazardous
than a larger one.

Plastic Garbage
Bags on Market
Entertaining over the holi-
day season is usually heavy an&
to face a grim fact so is the
resulting garbage! This year
there are sturdy plastic garbage
bags to help cope with the pro-
blem. Garbage can be safely
transferred in them, from the
kitchen to the outdoors, be-
cause the bags are leakproof.
They are also odourless.
Packages of 10 and 20 are
sold through grocery and hard-
ware stores and a resourceful
housewife will soon find many
other uses for them, such as
holding damp clothes while
awaiting ironing, storing pol-
ished hollow silver to prevent
tarnish, and for use` as, a laun-
dry bag when travelling.
PRETTY SHOE BAGS
It's shoe -toting time. Wo-
men wearing snow boots are
carrying shoes to work; bowlers
are carrying shoes to the alleys.
Zippered shoe cases are de-
signed with over -the -arm han-
dles and covered 'with washable
materials in patterns ranging
from simulated leather to petit -
point. Much more attractive
than old paper bags!
Make Bleach
Bottles Into
Piggy Banks
The bottles that bleach and
detergents come in are poten-
tial piggy banks... believe it or
not. The bottle may be left its
original color, but it can be
given a really glamorous ap-
pearance simply by spraying it
with gold or silver paint, When
the paint is dry the bottle is
then laid on its side for the next
step, which is to add legs, Four
stubby corks are just the thing
for this and they can be either
glued in place or inserted in-
to holes cut in the bottle with
a sharp, pointed paring knife.
The decoration is now added
and here is where your imagin-
ation can run wild, for there is
no intention to make the pig
realistic looking. The neck of
the bottle makes a natural snout,
and features such as eyes,
mouth and ears are cut from
colored felt and glued into
place. And a truly finished
look will be achieved if the cap
of the bottle and the four legs
have felt wrapped around them.
For a touch of whimsy, cut
tiny flower shapes in bright
colored felt and glue them here
and there. And for a very be -
