A PORTION of the large crowd of interested
parents and ratepayers who attended the
official opening of the Howick Central
School on Friday evening. These folks were
seated in the auditorium, others overflow-

meeting last week. Since that

four nominees decided not to
stand.

BELGRAVE—Tire public re-
lations meeting of the Women's
Institute was held in the Com-
munity Centre last Tuesday with
vice-president, Mrs, Stanley
Cook in charge. The meeting
opened with the Institute Ode
followed by the Mary Stewart
Collect, Minutes and treasur*
er's reports were given by Mrs.
Earl Anderson, Correspondence
included a card of thanks, and
an invitation to attend Achieve-
ment Day for the project "The
Milky Way", to be held in
Wroxeter on Dec, '1, and a let-
ter of thanks from The Mental
Health Society for money re-
ceived,
The Summary Day for the
Dessert Course was announced
to be held in the Presbyterian
Church, Wingham, on Dec, 3.
Mrs. Herson Irwin and Mrs. J.
M, Coultes will be in charge
of the display. A donation was
voted to Mrs. Cora McGill for
cards for the sick and shut-in.
A $10,00 donation was voted
to the Children's Aid Society
at Goderich. A new set of sten-
oils is to be purchased for use
of the 4*H members. Mrs, J.
M. Couites offered to buy the
Christmas Gift for the War Vet-
eran at Westminster Hospital,
Mrs. Walter Scott was con-
vener of the program with the
theme "Institute interest in the
community is good public re-
lations". The roll call was
answered with "Something I
would like everyone to know
about the W.I.". Mrs. Clark
Johnston spoke on "It Happened
in November". "Hymn of All
Nations" was sung by the group.
Mrs. Williard Armstrong
gave a talk on Miss Helen Mc-
Kercher, director of Home
Economics Service, Facts about
the W, I. were taken by Mrs,
Stanley Black and Mrs. Ivan
Wightman. Grace was sung and
lunch was served by Mrs. Ivan
Wightman and Mrs. Walter
