JUST CALL OR WRITE Investors o7wcdc e Of CANADA. t I r, I T E 0 PHONE 357-3661 By Vonni Lee Well, this is the week I promised to review some of the old favourite TV shows that are returning to the CAC -TV net- work this season. The list is not too different from last year's, as most of that season's have been renewed. 0--0--0 They say everything must begin happily, so Pll mention a regular 'ray of sunshine'," Ben Casey" returned last week for his new season (the summer con• sisted of reruns), and he is just as grouchy as before. I thought perhaps he may have seen if a psychiatrist could help him solve his problems during the summer, but no such luck! He is still barking at fellow doc- tors, ordering the nurses around, and saucing his patients. But maybe some of you like the handsome Doc (Vince Edwards, in real life) so here's the info: he's on at 8:30 Tuesday eve- nings, in the old Perry Mason spot. 0--0--0 By the time you read this, "Beverly Hillbillies" will have made its first appearance of the new season. It won't be much different from its first year, but with its success, why should it be? It stars Buddy Ebsen as millionaire Jed Clamp- ett, with Irene Ryan (Granny), Donna Douglas (Elly Mae), Max Baer (Jethro), Raymond Bailey (Mr. Drysdale), and Nancy Kulp as Miss Hathaway, and ow Is The Time To W1NTERSEAL FOR FUEL SAVINGS AND HOME COMFORT the new `tempo' VIMOMIt GUARANTEED! It remains at the same time, Saturdays at 7 p.m. 0--0--0 September 25th sees the fall debut of Winnipeg's "Red River ' Jamboree" on CBC. It should sound familiar; it has been seen in previous years as a summer replacement. It has been pre- sented on Winnipeg outlets singe 1959, so it is very success• ful in the West. It will be seen here on Wednesdays, at 8, and still stars Stu Philips, Peggy Neville, The Altones, and. The Valley Beaux and Belles, It's strictly a western show, so should please country -music fans, On Sept. 30th, a similar show which is just as popular, will be returning. "Don Mes- ser's Jubilee", from Halifax, will look the same as other years, will star Don and His Is- landers, with Marg Osborne, Charlie Chamberlain, and The Buchta Dancers. Only bad thing, is that it will be sending our great summer show, "Sing - along Jubilee", out to pasture. 0--0--0 On the same evening, the Canadian dramatic series "Play - date" will be seen once again. It will be seen from 9 to 10 p. m. and will again feature good comedy and drama, acted by top Canadian talent. And, more good news! Once a month, it will present The Red Skelton' Show, and if you missed him as much as I did, last year, you'll jump for joy that he's coming back, even if it is just once a month. He will start the ball rolling on the 30th; the first drama will be "The Day The Money Stopped" starring Amer- ica's Darren McGavin of the old 'Riverboat' series, in the story of a son who causes trou- ble over his father's will. Other leading players in the series, Will'be Jack Creley, Larry Mann, John Colicos, Frances Hyland, Douglas Rain, Eric House, Tom Kneebone, Murray Matheson, and others. 0--0--0 The other Canadian dramatic show, "Festival" will be return- ing to the network on Wednes- day, Oct. 2nd, at 9:30 p.m. The series will begin with a classic — Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado", with the origin- al Stratford cast. This was filmed earlier this summer in the Avon Theatre at Stratford, stars Eric House, Andrew Down- ie, and Irene Byatt, is produc- ed by Norman Campbell, with music conducted by Louis Applebaum. If you did not see it at Stratford, be sure to catch it on "Festival". The first dra- matic production of this series will be seen the next week, when "Antigone" will be pre- sented. Looking over the list of future shows, I would say that this will be the best season yet, for "Festival". 0--0--0 "Telescope", which has been renewed as a result of its successful summer series re- turns for the autumn on Oct. 4th, with a biography of Can- ada's Lorne Greene, star of "Bonanza". Future shows will feature the circus world's 'Fly- ing Wallendas', Hollywood's Walt Disney, showman Alex- ander Cohen, and ballerina Angela Leigh, among others. It is produced by Ross McLean, who gained fame as "Close- up's" producer, and will be hosted, as it was all summer, by Fletcher Markle. Its final summer production featured singer Eartha Kitt, who, as 'Thursday's child', has had it anything but easy in her climb Bishop Appleyard To Visit Howick GORRIE—On .Sunday the three Anglican churches in Howick Township, St. Steph- en's, Gorrie, St. James', Wrox- eter, and Trinity Church, Ford- wich, will join in a united ser- vice which will be held in Trinity Church, at 3.00 p.m. The occasion will be the visit of Bishop Appleyard, Bish- op of Georgian Bay, when he i will administer the ancient rite of Confirmation, The Bishop will preach and willbe assisted in the service by the rector, the Reverend G. A. Anderson, Special Service Of Thanksgiving GORRIE—There was a large attendance at the Harvest Thanksgiving service in St, Stephen's Church on Sunday morning, when the rector, Rev. G. A. Anderson was the preach- er. His text was from Gal. 6; 7, "Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap." The traditional loaf of fresh bread and grapes, symbolic of the divine providence which provides for man's needs, were placed on the communion table, The church was lovely with flowers and fruits of the harvest, corn, grain and vegetables. There was special music by the choir with Miss Gail Dins- more at the organ. Name Officers at Inaugural Meet GORRIE--The inaugural business meeting of the Angli- can Young People's Association of the parish of Fordwich and Gorrie was held in St. Steph- en's Church hall, Gorrie, on Sunday evening. The rector, the Rev. G. A, Anderson, pre- sided for the opening hymn and prayers and for the election of officers. The following were voted into office: President, Miss Sharon Hubbard, Gorrie; vice pres„ Miss Jean Browne, Ford- wich; secretary, Ken Anderson; treasurer, Brian Underwood; lunch conveners, Donna Ben- nett and Carol Dinsmore. The next meeting will be held in Trinity Church, Ford- wich on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. All young folk are welcome. Gorrie News Mrs. David Ritchie, Wing - ham, spent Tuesday with Mrs. Albert Dustow. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Dustow, Mildmay, call- ed at the same home on Friday. Mrs. Nellie Dredge, Palm- erston, and Mr. Leo. Butler of Toronto, visited Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Ed. Bolander. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coulter visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wooddissee, Con. 12, Maryborough Twp. to the top. There certainly is no one more deserving of good fortune and happiness, than she. 0--0--0 More old favourites, like Garry Moore with his variety hour, "Front Page Challenge", with Fred Davis and his 'bril- liant' panel, "Country Hoe- down", featuring the same cast, and "Bonanza" with the Cart- wright family preparing to marry off Adam, will also be returning, in much the same guise as last year. Another great season on CBC, wouldn't you say?
