Cubs, Scouts Attend
District Field Day
The Annual Saugeen District
Field Day for the Cubs and Boy
Scouts was held last Saturday at
the Kinloss Scout Grounds,
Sunny skies and a warm sun wel
corned this event and a large
group of Cubs and Scouts from
the lst Wingham Troup were
present, along with their Scout-
master, Fred Steinmetz, and
Cub Leaders Ron Zimmer, Mrs.
Don Lloyd and Mrs. Robt, Ahara.
The parade assembled at the
Holyrood Township Hall and led
by the Lucknow High School
band marched to the Scout
Grounds where the official
March Past and opening cere-
monies were held. Archie
Gowanlock of Walkerton con-
ducted the opening, the Grand
Howl of all Cub Packs, Horse-
shoe of the Boy Scouts and a
re -affirmation of the Cub and
Scout promises.
Following this the Cubs and
Scouts were separated and the
events of the afternoon were
run-off.
The plaques were won by the
lst Kincardine Troup and the
1st Kinloss Troop for best over-
all Troop and total points won,
but Wingham Cubs and Scouts
placed well in many of the
events, both individually and
in team effort. Congratulan
tions to all the boys for a job
well done.
Thanks to the drivers who so
kindly came along to transport
the boys to Holyrood and also
provided a cheering section for
encouragement and support.

Arthur Filch, 88
Dies in Hospital
BELMORE-Funeral service
was held from the R. A. Cur-
rie and Sons funeral home on
Monday afternoon for Arthur
Fitch, 88, of Belmore. Rev.
Howard Pace officiated and the
pallbearers were Harry Mulvey,
Fred Doubledee, Thomas Abra-
ham, William Ivlerkley, John
Fitch Jr., and Raymond Neill.
Three grandsons, Elwood, Earl
and Ross Fitch, carried the
floral tributes. Interment was
in Wroxeter cemetery.
Mr. Fitch passed away in
Wingham and District Hospital
early Saturday morning. He
had been ill only a short time.
Deceased was a son of the
late Arthur Fitch and Ann Sharp,
and was born in Howick Town -
will come out .and support these
events as they take place.
The Season for Cubbing and
Scouting is off to a good start
and another busy year.
A joint meeting of A and !3
Packs of Cubs was held at the
Scout House last Thursday night.
Due to the Saugeen District
Field Day on Saturday, A Pack
was asked to meet again to
complete the try -outs in the
various Cub events.
A large group of over 50
boys turned out for this meet-
ing and 14 new boys were
registered. Following the
Grand Howl the boys were div-
ided off and those not partici-
pating in the Field Day events
and the New Chums heard the
first part of the story relating
to Cubs and the pattern they
follow -- taken from Jungle
Stories by Rudyard Kipling.
Knot practice was in charge
of Ron Zimmer, one of the new
Cub leaders. Murray Friden-
burg took charge of the out-
door activity, Mrs. Don Lloyd
registered the new boys and
assisted in Field Day practice.
Mrs. Ahara told the story and
origin of Cubbing and Diane
Deyell officiated for the open-
ing and closing of the meeting.
Meeting closed with aGrand
Howl and the Cub Prayer.
Next week the Packs will re-
turn to their regular meeting
nights. See you all out then!

took up farming as his lifetime
occupation, retiring 20 years
ago.
His wife is the former Effie
Viola Higgins. They were
married at the home of her par-
ents in Morris Township on
September 16, 1908. They
were members of Belmore Unit-
ed Church, of which Mr. Fitch
was an honorary elder.
Surviving besides his wife
are three sons, Alvin and Carl
of Howick Township, Lyle of
Weston, and a daughter, Gladys
(Mrs. Ivan Haskins) of R. R,, 1,
Clifford. There are thirteen
grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren.
Mr. Fitch is also survived
by his brother, John, of Huron
view in Clinton and a sister,
Elizabeth Ann of Regina, Sask.
