Umpires Sade and Wilda
Widmeyer of Fergus,
NIGHT BOATING
Evening is a delightful time
for boating but there are cer-
tain things to remember about
boating after dark.
First of all there's navigation
lights to think about -- regula-
tion port and starboard red and
green lights on the bow and a
white light on the stern, These
must be showing from sunset to
sunrise. And unless you are an
experienced navigator, know
your waters well before attemp-
ting night operation. Night
shadows are extremely decep-
tive,

The Brophy Goodyears regret
a 15 minute delay in starting
the game because the umpires

would like to thank Jack Tiffin

and doing a good job of um-
piring.

Give the 1964 Volkswagens a good going over.
VW 1500 -TS. Our newest arrival has
been improved so much we've given it
a special name. touring Sport. •
We chose Sport because it has 25%
more power than our regular 1500
model. (And larger brakes to handle
the extra power.) With higher compres-
sion and twin carburetors, the 1500 -TS
has amazing performance. From a stand-
ing start it will hit 50 mph in twelve
seconds. (You see. It really does have
the performance of a sports car.)
And we added the name Touring
because you can travel across country
in complete comfort. (That goes for the
station wagon too.) In front there are
two deep, roomy bucket seats fhat ad-
just to 49 different positions.
Other new features for '64 include:
on instant heater, whitewall tires, new
colours,. (two-tone finish optional) and a
few discreet touches of chrome.
(NOTE: You can save a few dollars by
buying a regular 1500 sedan or station
wagon. They both have all the 1964
improvements except the TS engine.)
VW 1200. Alias the Beetle. Alias Old
Faithful. Whatever you call it, it's the
car that keeps giving you more for your
money.
For example: take a good look at our
1964 Deluxe model.
Those whitewall tires aren't for show.
They're for free.
And don't miss our handsome new
steering wheel complete with horn lever.
(Imagine a Volkswagen with instant
beep.)
We've got instant heat, too. (Now it
takes longer to warm up the radio than
the passengers.)
if you've ever admired our sunroof
model, we have more good news. This
year the sliding roof is made of steel
instead of cloth. In summer you can let
in sunshine and a cool breeze. in winter,
nothing gets in.
Visit your Volkswagen dealer this week
and see his new collection of fancy
beetles. (Your biggest problem will be
deciding which of our seven colours is
your favourite.)

VW STATION BUS. Men! Don't give up!
Keep taking your wife to see the world's
most sensible station wagon. (You know
—the one she says looks like a bus.)
Don't be discouraged! Heaven knows
we're doing our part, For example,
we've just made the rear window wider
so she con back up with more confidence.
In fact we've made the whole rear door
larger and put it on special hinges. (Now
she can open it with one hand.)
Never surrender! Keep reminding
your bride that although this huge
Volkswagen carries nine adults (or a
million kids) it's four feet shorter than a
conventional station wagon.
Other features include: a 1500 en-
gine with extra power; a new heating
system that provides instant heat; an
air-cooled engine that can't boil over;
30 miles to a gallon of gas; fully
synchronized gear shift;
and whitewall tires.

Pheasant Seasons
Are Announced
In Essex County and Rom-
ney, Tilbury, Raleigh and
Harwich Townships in Kent
County, the season for pheasant
will be October 26 to Novem-
ber 2. In Lincoln and Welland
Counties and the Townships of
Ancaster, Barton, Saltfleet,
Glanford and Binbrook in Went-
worth County, the season also.
opens on October 26 but ex-
tends to November 9.
Throughout the general
southwestern Ontario pheasant
range including the remainder
of Kent and Wentworth Count-
ies as well as all of the count-
ies of Lambton, Middlesex,
Elgin, Oxford, Norfolk, Perth,
Wellington, Waterloo, Brant,
Haldimand, Dufferin, Halton,
Peel, York; and the Townships
of Hay, Stephen and Usborne
in Huron County; and in the
Townships of Tosorontio, Esse,
Innisfil, Adjala, Tecumseth,
West Gwillimbury in Simcoe
County, and the Townships of
Scott, Uxbridge, Pickering,
Reach, Whitby and East Whitby
in Ontario County, the season
will be similar to last year's
on October 16 and extending
to November 2.
In Clarke and Darlington
Townships of Durham County,
the season will again be Octo-
ber 5 to October 26. In the
rest of Ontario (including Bruce
and Grey Counties and the re-
mainder of Huron, Simcoe and
Ontario Counties), the season
will be from October 5 to Nov-
ember 2.
In areas where the season
begins on October 5, the bag
will be 3 birds of any sex per
day. In the rest of the pro-
vince where the season opens
on October 16 or October 26,
the bag will be 3 per day not
more than 1 of which shall be
a hen.
The bag limit on Pelee Is-
land has not been set,
Prospects for the pheasant
season throughout the pheasant
range appear to be,relatively
good. Ontario as well as neigh,
bouring states did not experi-
ence any large winter mortal
ity of pheasants despite heavy
snowfall in many pheasant
production areas. The early
spring has led biologists to be
optimistic concerning this
year's production; which was
higher in 1962 after a decline
throughout much of the range
in 1060.
Landowners and hunters will
be pleased with the reduction
in the number and variety of
seasons throughout large blocks
of the pheasant range providing
for wider distribution of hunters
over much larger areas.
