Show Draws Large Crowd
The fourth annual water
show staged by the Wingham
Sportsmen's Association at the
Riverside Park on Sunday, drew
an estimated 1, 200 spectators
to the river ban.<s, the largest
to date.
The show included twelve
acts, all demonstrations of
water sfiing and jumping. An
important feature of the show
was the fact that all taking part
were from Wingham.
Adult skiers were David
Cameron, who holds dozens of
trophies from his days of com-
petative skiing, Brian Metcalfe,
Bob Deyell and Jack Gorrie.
The juniors also did a fine job
on the skis. Sandra Seddon,
11 years old, was the majoret,
Bonnie Willie, 11, Sharon Wil-
lie 12 and Marion Willie, 12,
carried the pennants at the start
of the show. Jack Gorrie and
his son, Steve, did a father and
son act. Also demonstrating
their skill was little Pat Willie,
six-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Mike Willie, who

no problem pulling three or
four skiers at a time. Jack
Gorrie was announcer, using the
CKNX mobile facilities. Harry

Joe Vansfone Wins
Swim Competition
Joe Vanstone was the winner
of the Hafermehl Trophy in the
15 -mile swim last Friday.
There were only three contest-
ants, all of whom swam much
shorter distances than they are
capable of doing.
Murray Gaunt, a . P. P, ,
blew the starting whistle at
8.45. Marilyn Riley, Brian
Forsyth and Joe Vanstone were
the competitors.
The water was very cold and
Marilyn was the first to be forc-
ed out by cold and cramps. She
was followed by Brian, who had
four miles to his credit. Joe
caught up and tied him for the
four miles, swimming another
ten or twenty feet to claim the
trophy. The competition only
lasted three hours.
The trophy was presented by
Michele Finney on Saturday,
during the Frontier Days festivi-
ties.
Brussels in
Soccer Playoffs
We understand the Brussels
soccer team is at present play-
ing in the finals. It has been
brought to our attention by a
reader that 40 years ago the
Brussels team won the W.F.A.
Junior Championship for Ontar-
io, when the team competed
with Galt for the trophy.
The sport has remained a
popular one in Brussels for well
over 40 years.
A
AWAY THEY GO—Three teenagers, Mar-
ilyn Riley, Brian Forsyth and Joe Van -
stone entered the 15 -mile swim on Fri-
day morning to compete for the Hafer -
mea I Trophy. The trio is pictured as
they took to the water at the start of the
competition. Cold water hampered the
swimmers, but Joe Vanstone swam over
four miles to capture the prize.
