A. T, Houghton, M.A. from London, England, general secretary, Bible Churchmen's Missionary Society, was speaker. Mr. Houghton was for many years a missionary in Burma. Mrs. Elsie Strong, president of Fordwieh W, A., was present- ed resented with a certificate of Life Membership in the W, A, This year Trinity W. A. celebrates the 70th anniversary of its formation as a branch. At the close of the service lunch was served in the base- ment of the church, OFFICIAL CLOSING FORDWICH--All former pupils, their families and friends are cordially invited to attend the closing of S, S. A, met at the tome of Elva Foster on August 1, Mrs, Strong pre- sided and opened with a hymn, followed by opening prayers. Mrs, Strong welcomed the visi- tors and member;. Mr. Ander- son read the Scripture. The roll all, a command- ment, was answered by 13 members and thew were six visitors, Mrs, Elsie Demerling gave a chapter from the study book on the two cruicified rob- bers and dealt with it very capably. Plans were made for the spe- cial service for Sunday, Aug- ust 4, when Rev, A. T. Hough- ton of London, England was to be speaker. Mrs. Strong was named to the rectory commit- tee. Rev. Anderson led in the Litany. Rev. E. C. Attwell, a for- mer minister, gave a talk on his work in Ashbury College, a boys residential school in Ottawa. Mrs. Strong led in the members' prayer and a prayer for Congress. Mr, An- derson closed with prayer. Lunch was served by Elva and Ethna Foster and Mrs, Brears. Ian Pittenreigh Wecs Thelma Margaret —unter FORDWICH--Baskets of bronze mums, white gladioli and fern, decorated Norval Presbyterian Church on Satur- day for the double -ring wed - ding ceremony performed by Rev. R. D. Duncanson, when Thelma Margaret Hunter be- came the bride of Ian Maxwell Pittendreigh of London. The bride, who is the daugh- ter of Mr, and Mrs, Frank Oli- ver Hunter of Georgetown, was given in marriage by her fa- ther. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. George Pitten- dreigh of Fordwich. The bridal gown was a pure silk floor -length dress of French peau de soie with a scoopneck- line, highlighted with ap- pliques of guipure lace. The pencil line skirt was enhanced by a medallion of lace with extra fullness at the sides, and the back cascading into a cha- pel train. She wore a finger- tip veil of illusion and carried a white Bible crested with Orange Delight roses. Her attendants were Mrs. Ian Gilmore, matron of honor, and Miss Helen Arnott and Miss Flora McKenzie, bridesmaids. They were gowned alike in cocktail -length dresses ofKelly green crystal charm. They carried cascade bouquets of Orange Delight roses, Donald McNiven was the best man and the ushers were Brian McElwain and Gary Mc- Elwain, both of Toronto. The reception was held at the Golf and Country Club, Georgetown, where baskets of mums and gladioli were used as decoration and a three-tier wed- ding cake graced the bride's table Legion Auxiliary Holds Meeting FORDWICH--The Ladies' Auxiliary to Howick Legion, held the August meeting in the Legion rooms with Mrs. Alex Graham presiding. Report of the receipts from the booth at the Lions' Frolic was given by Mrs. Mel Allan. The mystery prize won by Mrs, Jack Clarke, was donated by Mrs. Jack Wilson. A travel- ling basket among members helped to swell the finances by $5, 35. Plans were made to hold an opportunity sale about October 19th, also a draw to be made on three prizes. Plans were also made to entertain four other branches and a com- mittee was named to arrange entertainment. Mrs, Jack Wilson and Mrs, Earl Moore served lunch. A card was signed by all members for Mrs. Ross Doig and also a little gift sent to her while she is confined to Victoria Hospital, London. The bride's mother was at- tired in a turquois sheath dress of silk with taupe accessories. Her corsage was pink roses, The groom's mother wore a multicolor silk sheath dress with beige accessories and a corsage of orange colored roses. For the wedding trip to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsyl- vania, the bride wore a green shantung sheath with matching three-quarter length coat, mink and taupe accessories, and a corsage of Orange Delight roses. They will live in London where the groom is a member of the photographic department at the London Free Press. Roppel Family in Ontario 100 Years FORDWICH--About 100 at- tended the annual Roppel re- union at Brodhagen Community Centre on Civic Holiday. In 1863, 100 years ago, the Roppeigrandparents arrived in Ontario and made their home near Port Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Ford Buchanan have been com- piling a Roppel family tree which was on display, and drew much interest. Those attending came from Detroit, Kitchener, Tavistock, Rockyford, Alta., Stratford, Waterloo, Thorald, Elmwood, Tiverton, Hamilton, Under- wood, Listowel, Brodhagen, Gowanstown and Fordwich. Several prizes were awarded: Oldest lady present, Mrs. Eliza- beth lizabeth Rock, Brodhagen; oldest man present, Mr. John Roppel, Tavistock; longest married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Walter, Thorald; most recently married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Quanz, Elmwood; lucky plate, Dianne Bender, Gowans - town; the persons coming the greatest distance were Mr. and Mrs. Simon Roppel and Mr. George Roppel, Rockyford, Alta.; the birthday closest to the reunion date, Mrs. Roy Wal- ter, Gowanstown; youngest child present, Catharine Gibb, 10 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Bill Gibb, Stratford, A moment's silence was ob- served in memory of those who passed away during the year. Rev. H. E. Roppel of Tavis- tock gave a short review of the family history. Bride, Mrs. Paul Wendt and family of Toronto spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E, A. Schaefer. Mr, and Mrs. Bill Wilfong, and two children of Preston, spent last week with Mrs. Nina Armstrong. Mrs, Emma Williamson re- turned home last week after spending a month in the Western Provinces on Saturday. She visited with her brother, Mr. Anson Galbraith, who is con- fined to Victoria Hospital, Lon- don. Messrs, Ross )Doig and Ar- nold Doig visited one day last week with Mrs, Ross Doig, who underwent surgery last Monday in Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. Don Gibson and family of St, Catharines spent Friday with Mr. Ross Doig. Mrs. William Wilson visited one day last week with Miss Phyllis Wilson in London, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Kirkby of Kingston spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Keith visited over the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Chiomey in Port Colborne, Miss Elizabeth Armstrong re- turned to Stratford on Sunday after spending a three weeks' vacation at her home here. Mr. and Mrs, Ron Reed and children of Dundas were week- end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Hargrave. Sunday visitors at the same home were Mr, and Mrs. Earl Hallman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Orth and girls and Mr. and Mrs. E. Hargrave, all of Listowel. Miss Beverley Jacobson of Galt was a week -end visitor with her parents. Master Kenneth McClement visited last week with his sister, Miss Betty McClement, in Kitchener. Mr. Garfield Gibson under- went a tonsilectomy last week in Listowel Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mc - Clement and children of Lis- towel were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McClement. Mr, and Mrs. Tom Hutchi- son, Mrs. William Hutchison and family and Master Kenneth McClement spent Sunday with Mrs. Ross Nuhn and Miss Mar- jorie Nuhn at Gobles Grove. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Siefert of Bramalea spent the week -end with the former's parents and attended the Greiling-Siefert wedding on Saturday, Mr. Earl Ridley of London Farmer Area Resident Dies A former resident of this district, Archie Hugh Lowry, died suddenly at his home in Newcastle, N.B., on Tuesday, July 30. Mr. Lowry was born at Belrrlore and farmed there until about 1930, when he went on construction work with the hydro. He is survived by his wife, the former Velma Coutts; a daughter, Donna (Mrs. L. Mc- Donald) of Newcastle; a sister, Mrs. William Nickel of Bel - more and brothers, George of Toronto and Clayton of Grims- by.
