They returned to the show's 2tith anniversary last week in Wingham, along with many other old friends and some new ones as well, Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper from Nashville's 'Grand Ole Opry', The Howards are a bit different group than they were originally. The five are now four -- sisters Isobel, Marie and Doris, but the fourth is a member of the second gener- ation, niece Kathy, Recently, the sisters had a reunion with CBC's star of Country Hoedown, Tommy Hunter, when he was playing a personal appearance date near their hometown, Sarnia. They talked over old times and reminisced about the days when both were affili- ated with CKNX. Another old CKNX friend who was also in the group was Lucky Ambeau, who was there as one of Tom- my's accompanists in his musical act. 0-^0--0 Dinah Washington last week said 'I do' to her sixth husband in a ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada, She is a 37 -year-old singer, famous for recordings like "What a Difference a Day 40. • o000ooo 2 The o dependable o source of o cash o O (LOANS OP TO $3,000,00 011 MORE) 00 0 0 0 NIAGARA FINANCE • COMPANY LIMITED 0 •0.9v+v®J+0+0 O 4 0 NF 53-10 • 307 _ 10th Street, HANOVER Telephone 810 172 Ontaa'io Street STRATFORD Telephone 271-9010 29 Kingston Street, GODERICH Telephone JA 4-8357 Show Biz By Vonni Lee Makes", "Uinforgettable" , and duet recordings with Brooke Benton ("A Rocking Good Way', "You've Got What It Takes"), The groom is a 35 -year-old halfback for the Detroit Lions, Dick Lane. This gives her some sort of a record, Hedy Larnarr is another of the few who have been married six times. Lane had been married once before. 0--0--0 And Eddie Fisher is busily denying rumours that he will marry a gorgeous New York model, even though she follow- ed him to Las Vegas while he was performing in a club there. His answer to reporters' quest- ions is a classic one, "We're just good friends", I believe he said that once about a Tay- lor gal, tool 0--0--0 With talk of marriages, Hollywood wouldn't be com- plete without its share of div- orces either, Another of Bing's boys, Philip Crosby, was sued for divorce by his showgirl wife, Sandra Drummond, after only a few years of marriage. He is the second Crosby to suffer this fate; youngest bro- ther Lindsay is divorced from his wife Barbara, also a former showgirl. And blonde actress Anne Francis apparently didn't like the way her cavities were being filled, for she divorced her dentist husband in a bitter lawsuit last week, They had been married for three years, have a young daughter. The most bitter suit of all, though, is still being fought out by teenaged actress Carol Lynley and her publicist husband Mike Selsman. Cause of the battle there is a year-old dark -eyed cutie named Jill. Mike wants custody, on grounds that Carol is an unfit mother. Carol is fighting to keep her daughter with her. 0--0--0 The day after Marlon Bran - do announced that he would participate in demonstrations on behalf of equal rights for Negroes, he went into hospital suffering from a kidney ail- ment. Immediately, rumours started flying that he had 'chickened out' and this 'fake illness' was a good excuse for him not going, I don't believe a word of it! The stiff, hard -to -manage tents of the past have been re- placed with lightweight cotton shelters that can be pitched in minutes. Snug sleeping equip- ment, portable stoves and ice boxes, and many other items provide the comforts of home M the heart of the wilderness, The Right Tent for You In buying a tent, you'll have a choice of fabrics, styles, sizes and weights. Consider the size of your party and the amount of room you'll need for sleeping, storing gear, and for family gatherings, If you plan to tour, you'll want a tent that is relatively easy to pitch and something he says he is going to do. In addition to that, pictures showing him being wheeled into the hospital on a stretcher were shown through- out the country, and doctors personally classed him 'a very sick man', Some stars would go to lengths like these for a bit of publicity, but Marlon has never cared two hoots for publicity and I doubt if he starts now. I say he is sick and that he will, when well enough, continue his trip south, like he planned. 0--0--0 Toronto's O'Keefe Centre is presenting a most interesting schedule for next season, and since summer will soon be over it could be a good time to start planning your entertainment for the fall, winter, and spring months. Do try to include O'Keefe somewhere; I'll give you a list of the shows and you pick your favourites. PITCHING A TENT 1. Practice putting up a "new" tent before going on vacation, 2. Arrive at your campsite early. 3. Select a smooth area, free of roots and rocks with a slight incline to assure proper drainage. 4. Spread your tent over prepared area and set it up according to manufacturers' instructions. 5, When tent is erect and well staked, dig a small trench BROWNIE'S DRIVE-IN CLINTON 2 Complete Shows Nightly First Show at Dusk 2nd Show at approx. 11 o'clock THURSDAY -FRIDAY AUGUST 1-2 Rodgers & Hammersteins "STATE FAIR" PAT BOONE BOBBY DARIN ANN -MARGARET Colour - Scope - CARTOON SATURDAY -MONDAY AUGUST 3-5 "HOME FROM THE HILL" ROBERT MITCHUM ELEANOR PARKER GEORGE PEPPARD Colour - Scope - CARTOON Adult Entertainment HOLIDAY SUNDAY MIDNIGHT SHOW AT 12:05 -- Double Feature— "GIRL IN LOVER'S LANE" Adult Entertainment — PLUS — "THUNDER IN CAROLINA" RORY CALHOUN Sports Car Racing . , , Thrills and Action! A good tent, properly cared for, can last twenty years. One of the cardinal rules of care is never store a wet tent as this may cause mildew. It also should be cleaned when stored. Before packing your tent away, inspect it for snags, weakened tent hooks and brok- en seams. If repair work is needed, take it to a canvas shop and have it mended pro- fessionally.
