FINAL SERVICE Centenial Was Well Attended LAKELET--Sunday brought to a close the centennial ser- vices held at McIntosh United Church during the past week. The services during the week were all well attended with the final service on Sunday morning having an attendance of approximately 600 people. Guest speaker was the Rev. R. H. Turnbull, M.A., B.S., S.T.M., of Bedford United Church, Toronto and he gave a very inspiring sermon. Special vocal numbers were given by a trio, all former members of McIntosh, Mrs. Joanne King of Brussels, Mrs. Jacqueline Gowdy of Gorrie and Mr. Donald Gilmour of Galt. The numbers rendered were "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Keep Praying" . The Junior choir sang, "I Was Glad", during the morn- ing service. A bountiful lunch was served after the service by the ladies of the church. A memorial service in the ceme- tery followed conducted by Rev. Howard Pace, assisted by the Rev. R. H, Turnbull. The junior choir sang "Near to the Heart of God". The service proved to be very inspirational to all those who had the privi- lege of attending. LAKELET Mrs. Donald Webber and Nancy are visiting with Mrs. Matilda Keitch at Oshawa at present. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Knudsen and baby daughter of Toronto spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Metz- ger and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Pellett of Wroxeter on Sunday. Miss Linda Pellett returned with them for some holidays. Visitors for the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Ken nett - man were Mrs. Leslie Edwards and Cheryl, Robin, Terry, Scott, Elaine and Dena of Lon- don. Sunday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Edwards and Sonja and Don and Brian Ed- wards and Miss Kathy Burke, all of London. Mrs. Armand Frye of Kitch- ener and Miss Esther Reis of Clifford visited on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fergus- on. Mrs. Zelia Duncan of Ham- ilton is visiting this week with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Haskins. Mr. Lynn Ferguson of Mit- chell spent the week -end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ferguson. Mr. Jim Harper was taken ill during Saturday evening and was taken to the Bruce County Hospital, Walkerton, for obser- vation. FIRST MILITARY EXECUTION The first military execution in the American Army was carried out in New York on June 27, 1776, during the Rev- olutionary War. The executed man was one Thomas Hickey, a member of General George Washington's personal body- guard. Hickey and another guard were bribed to seize General Washington and deliver him alive to Sir William Howe, the British leader. However, a third guard, while pretending to accept the bribe, revealed the plot.
