NEW TROPHY — A new trophy to be known as the
Marguerite Burrell Trophy was purchased by the Wing -
ham Figure Skating Club last week. The trophy is
seen above as it was shown to Mrs. Burrell, who has
been in the Wingham and District Hospital for some
time, by three of the club's executive members. Mrs.
•
Burrell acted as secretary, and in many other active
positions in the club over a 10 -year period. The
trophy will honor her many years of service. With
Mrs. Burrell are Mrs. Harold Wild, treasurer and cor-
responding secretary, Mrs. John Day, test chairman,
and John Strong, dub president.—A-T Photo.
WFS Club Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the
Wingham Figure Skating Club
was held at the home of the
President, John Strong, on
Thursday evening.
The minutes of the last an-
nual meeting and the treasurer's
report were accepted, showing
a small balance from the pre-
vious year, which was due to
the fact that only one full time
professional instructor was
hired in 1961-62.
A report on the tests held at
the end of March showed that
of 38 who tried, 35 passed.
The salary for Harold Brooks,
the part-time instructor, was
finalized.
New rates were set up: Be-
ginners with no previous figure
skating experience $7. 00; those
taking preliminary dances and
under $10.00; Bronze dances
and up $12.00; the third and
fourth member of the family,
half the regular price.
The second half of the fees
Must be paid by the end of the
second week in January.
It was decided to present a
trophy to Mrs. H, Burrell in
honour of her 10 years' faithful
work with the club.
An amendment was made to
the constitution, stating that
the past president remain on
the executive for one year only,
unless he is interested in the
work and wishes to act longer.
The president will meet
with the Arena Commission in
the fall, to arrange next year's
ice time.
The nominating committee
presented its report narking a
president and eight directors.
It was suggested that regis-
tration day in the fall be held
on the Thursday and Saturday,
before the first official skating
date if ice time is available.
Another suggestion was that
mid-season tests be held the
first week in January if any
pupil is ready. using local
judges.
The meeting adjourned at
• 10:00 p.m. after which a cup
of coffee was served by the
hostess, Mrs. Strong.
