Library Club Visits London
By Betty Scharbach
• On Wednesday of last week,
Miss Coutts and Mrs. Smith
took twelve members of the
W. D. H. S. Library Club to Lon-
don. The journey began at
11:30 a.m. and the group
reached its destination at 1:30
p.m.
The club members proceed-
ed to the London Public Library
and Art Museum where they
met their guide and were taken
through the enormous building.
Many interesting ideas and
places were brought to their
attention in the Library, such
as the music and language sec-
tions. The next place of in-
terest was the Art Museum
where modern paintings and
sculpture are found.
After bidding farewell to
their guide the party proceeded
to the oldest houz,e in Lu.,don,
Eldon House. This historic
house was built in 1834 by
Captain John Harris and his
wife Amelia. It was named
after the Earl of Eldon, It has

Showing at
Mitchell Meet
A number of Wingham Dis-
trict High School students com-
peted in the Perth -Huron Con-
ference field and track meet at
Mitchell on Wednesday of last
week, and took several prizes.
Judith McKibbon placed
first in the senior 100 -yd. dash
and second in the 200 run.
Ruth Michie was first in the
senior standing broad jump. A
relay team, consisting of Linda
Mahood, Sigberta deBruyn,
Judy Callan and Gale Wilson,
placed second in the interme-
diate 440 relay race.
In the boys' division Torn
Ellacott was first in the junior
pole vault and Jim Nasmith
was first in the junior shotput.
Brian Sanderson was third in
the broad jump and second in
the intermediate pole vault.
Glen Madill was second in the
junior hop, step and jump and
second in the high jump.
Fraser Strong was third in the
intermediate pole vault.
Doug Campbell, Bob Lunn,
Murray Procter, and Lloyd
Harrison won third place in the
intermediate relay race.
A young another was looking
at a toy for her small child.
"Isn't this awfully complicated
for him?" she asked the sales-
man,
"That madame," replied the
salesman, "is an educational
toy, designed to prepare the
child for life in today's world.
Any way he puts it together is
wrong."
SOME SHAPES are
hard to improve on!
Ask any hen.
You just can't design a more functional shape for
an egg.
And we figure the same is true of the Volkswagen
Sedan.
Don't think we haven't tried.
(As a matter of fact, the Volkswagen's been changed
nearly 3,000 times).
But we can't improve our basic design.
Like the egg, it's the right kind of package for what
goes inside.
So that's where most of our energy goes.
To get more power without using more gas. To put
synchromesh on first gear. To improve the heater. That
kind of thing,
As a result, our package carries four adults, and their
luggage, at about 38 miles to a gallon of regular gas and
40,000 miles to a set of tires.
We've made a few external changes, of course. Such
as push-button doorknobs,
Which is one up on the egg,
