FORDWICH—On Friday
night the Fordwich bowling
teams finished their season of
bowling with a banquet at
Danny's Restaurant.
After a very delicious meal
William Marriner presented
several trophies, Mrs. Alex
Reid, Mrs. Mel Allan, Mrs.
Morley Johnson, Earl King,
Jim Renwick and William Mar-
riner each received a trophy for
the highest team.
Highest average went to
Mrs. Tom McClement and
Dave Farrish. High singles,
Mrs. Earl King and Russel
Behrns. High triples, Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Bunker; eldest bowl-
er, James Vittie.
The president and secretary
for 1963-64 are Don Bridge and
Mrs. Earl King.
Plan Trip to
Niagara Falls
GORRIE—Mrs. Lloyd McGee,
Wroxeter, demonstrated mak-
ing wood fibre flowers and as-
sisted the eighteen members
of the Junior Institute, to make
corsages, on Wednesday in the
Gorrie Community Hall.
The president, Mrs. John
Stafford, presided and plans
were made for a dance in Gor-
rie Hall on May 24, and for a
joint Junior Institute and Junior
Farmers bus tour to Niagara
Falls, on June 24. A fashion
show was also discussed but
plans were not completed.
Eight new members joined
on Wednesday and the club
hopes others will join and parti-
cipate in the activities.
The Junior Farmers met the
same evening and had as their
guest speaker Harold Keil, rep-
resentative of Howick Farmers
Mutual Insurance, speaking on
"Insurance" .
Mrs. E. Wightman
Presides at UCW
BELGRAVE—The W.M.S.
of the Presbyterian Church met
for its May meeting in the
church on May 7, with the
president, Mrs. Ed. Wightman
in charge. The meeting open-
ed with prayer by Mrs. Wight -
man, followed by a hymn.
Scripture and the meditation
were read by Mrs. 0. G. An-
derson,
The topic on Africa was
taken by Mrs. Jack McBurney,
who read a story entitled "Med-
cine for a Sick Continent".
The roll call was answered with
a Bible verse containing the
word flower. Mrs. Victor
Youngblut led in prayer. An-
other hymn was sung, followed
by the Glad Tidings prayer by
Mrs. Stewart Cloakey,
Mrs. Ed. Wightman closed
the meeting with prayer and
the Mizpah benediction.
ISLE OF BACCHUS
The Isle of Orleans in the
Saint Lawrence River below
Quebec is noted for its fruit
culture. Explorer Jacques Car-
tier, back in 1535, first named
it the Isle of Bacchus on account
of its prolific grapc vines. The
island is 22 miles long and has
an area of 70 square miles. It
has many popular picnic and
summer resorts.

FORDWICH—The Ladies'
Orange Lodge, 131, of Ford-
wich, held the May meeting at
the home of Mrs. Ruby Foster.
A donation was voted to the
British Sailors Fund. Plans
were made to visit the Orphan-
age at Richmond Hill also
Scott Mission in Toronto, this
summer, where their bales are
sent.
It will be fifty years in June
since the ladies' lodge in Ford-
wich was organized. Miss
Maud Harding of Toronto is
writing up the highlights and
history, from 1913 until the
present time. Only two char-
ter members are still living,
both in the 90 -year bracket;
Mrs. Agnes Winter, now of
Collingwood and Mrs. Jennie
Mosure of Fordwich, who still
attends Lodge during the sum-
mer months,

FORDWICH—The general
meeting of the Fordwich Uni-
ted Church Women was held
• on Thursday evening in the
church, with ladies of Clifford
and Gorrie U, C. W. and Trinity
Anglican W.A. as guests.
Mrs. W. Wilson presided
over the meeting. the theme
of which was " Through Nature
to God". Mrs. Harold Doig
gave a tribute to Mothers, bas-
ing her remarks on "Adventure
with God in the Home", writ-
ten by Miss Jane Scott.
Mrs. Harold Pollock intro-
duced the guest Speaker, Mrs.
G. W. Tiffin, Wingham, who
spoke on the four -fold purpose

of the United Church Women.
Members of the U, C, W. are
committed to Christian wit-
ness, Study, fellowship and
service. The speaker was
thanked by Mrs. Cecil Wilson.
Mrs. Wray Cooper led in
the closing worship service, as-
sisted by Mrs. S. Clarkson,
Mrs. Geroge Ashton, and Mrs.
Ben Gibson.
