BELMORE-'We in Canada
are a product of foreign tnis-
sions, so we must broadcast
.gospel as we do other good
trews", said Mrs. Geo. Brem-
ner of Bluevale, addressing the
,Easter Thankoffering of the
Women's Missionary Society of
Knox Presbyterian Church on
,nursday.
` Her address, dealing with
the western trend of foreign
Missions from the time of St,
Paul to the early history of our
,church in Western Ontario,
was most timely because of
the Centennial celebrations
planned for 1964. She con-
cluded with a convincing list
of reasons for supporting
foreign missions.
Mrs. Elmer Jeffray presided
and members of the Women's
Missionary Society from St,
Andrews Church, Wingham,
were guests. The devotions
were led by Mrs. Carl Nickel
and Mrs, J. Dickson. Mrs. D.
MacAdam read the minutes of
the last meeting and correspon-
dence concerning the May
Presbyterial to be held in Kin-
cardine on May 15; the Ladies'
Camp at Kintail on June 21
23, and the Centennial at
Montreal next year. Mrs. A.
Mundell thanked the speaker.
A pleasant hour of fellow-
ship was concluded with thanks
expressed by Mrs. Brenner and
Mrs. N. L. Fry of Wingham.

BRUSSELS, ONTARIO
have heard it said that a coun-
try's future is largely dependent
on its young people. If they
become well educated, respon-
sible citizens, their country
will flourish in all its endeavors
But if they are going to develop
into uneducated, irresponsible
citizens, then this will be re-
flected in their country's econ-
omy, government, and prestige
among the world powers.
"I contend, and I am sure
that most other people agree
with me, that Canada's future
is looking brighter every year
because we see more and more
students graduating from univer-
sities and high schools, and
taking an active part in indus-
try, agriculture, social services
and government. Of no less
importance is the role they play
in the welfare and development
of their own community, be it
coaching the peewee hockey
team, or being president of the
local women's organizations.
"How well these young peo-
ple acquit themselves in such
acitvities will largely depend
on what they learned at the
schools and colleges. It is
there that they get a sense of
values that should be an inspira-
tion and guide throughout life.
It is there that they learn the
importance of honesty, co-
operation, hard work and sin-
cerity. I trust that these vir-
tues will do more than enrich
the lives of these young people
that they will also direct Can-
ada's future towards peace and
prosperity."

MYSTERIOUS MADSTONE
it is said that when the mad -
stone is applied to any wound
inflicted by a mad dog, hydro-
phobia is prevented, A choco-
late -colored madstone in the
U.S. A, was brought over from
Scotland in 1776, It is report-
ed to have been employed
against the venom of a mad
dog 130 times - all successfully
- during its American career.
Belief in the madstone's strange
power goes back many cen-
turies in the Orient.
