Studebaker OF CANADA, LIMITED b3 -L-7 Mrs. McDermitt Dies in London FORDWICH-+-Mrs. Neil Mc.- Dermitt, who had been a pa- tient in Victoria Hospital, London, for some time, follow- ing a fall at HAronview Home, Clinton, when she broke her hip, died in London on April 15. The former Clara Barnett, she was a daughter of the late Mary Marks and Andrew Bar- nett. She was born in Wallace Township, June 11, 1878. On October 3, 1900, she married Neil McDermitt and they resided on Con. 2, How - ick Township, until 1944. Mrs. McDermitt was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by a daugh- ter, Miss Elsie McDermitt of Toronto and three sons, Harvey of Fordwich, Percy of Brantford, and Harold of Galt, four grand- children, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Leonard of Atwood. The funeral was from the Moir funeral home with inter- ment in Fordwich Cemetery, on Wednesday. Rev. A. Cole of Fordwich United Church officia- ted. Pallbearers were Glad Ed- gar, Norman Gedcke, Wray Cooper, Lloyd Faust, Bruce Sothern and Sam Robinson. Fordwich News Visitors during the week- end at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Glenn Johnston, were Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Laramie, Harrow; Mr, and Mrs. Well- ington Annett, Wyoming; Mr, and Mrs, O. Ryan, Chatham; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Renwick, Delmore; Mr. and Mrs. R. Best, Weston; Mr, and Mrs, J. Douglas and Gary, Fordwich, Mr, and Mrs. Milton Priess spent a couple days last week with Mrs. Mary Becker in Tor- onto. Mrs. Harvey McDermitt and Larry spent Saturday with the former's father, Mr. John Fitch in Huronview Horne, Clinton. The many friends of Mrs, William Kato will be sorry to learn she is confined to Palm- erston Hospital, where she underwent surgery last week. Mrs. Adam Zurbrigg, who has been ill at her home for several weeks, is now in Cal- lander Nursing 1lome, Brussels. Miss Jean Siefert visited last week with her sister, Miss Donna Siefert, in Galt. Mr, and 1`rrs. Don Reiman moved Saturi ay to their farm near Wroxete , which they recently purc:lased. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Gibson have bought the Reiman farm and will be moving soon.. Mr. and Mrs. Jas, Vittie visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Carl Stewart in Listowel, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Haase arid family of Sault Ste. Marie visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Torn McClement. Miss Katharine Warrell of Harriston spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Jim War- rell. Miss Detty McClement of Kitchener spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McClement. Mr, Paul Schaefer of Brantford was also a week -end visitor at the same home. Mr. Roy Graham of Monc- ton, N.B. and Mr, and Mrs. Ken Fisher of London visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Graham. Mrs. Len Wilson, Susan and Murray, visited several days with her mother, Ivirs. L. Groves in Scarborough. Misses Glenna and Luanne Siefert and Master Lorne Sie- fert of Galt spent last week at the home of their .. randparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Siefert. Mr. and Mrs. William Sothern visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Renwick, near Belmore. Mrs. Roy Simmons, Mrs. dist. Officer Installs FORDWICH—The Women's Institute held the April meeting in the community hall. Mrs. John Craig presided and devo- tions were taken by Mrs. Clyne. The motto, " How to preserve the nation's records for future generations", was given by Mrs. Harry Bast. The roll call was answered by taking an heirloom and talking about it. The secretary- treasurer's ecretarytreasurer's report was read for the year. It was decided to sponsor Mary Andreadis of Greece through "Save the Children Fund" for another Choir Presents Song Service FORDWICH--The choir of Fordwich United Church had a service Sunday evening of song and story. Several anthems were sung by the choir, which also led in congregational singing. Those taking solo parts were, Mrs. Jack Wilson, Miss Minnie McElwain. Solos were sung by Gordon Kaster, Mrs. Geo, Richards and Austin Stinson. Rev. A. C. Coles and Mrs. Harold Doig read the script parts. Ashton and Mrs. John Inglis; nominating UCW Votes $500 Toward Expenses At Parsonage FORDWICH--The United Church Women met in the Sunday school rooms with the C.G. I. T. girls as guests. Mrs. Wm. Wilson opened the meet- ing with a meditation on the resurrection. Mrs. Glenn Johnson read the Scripture, fol- lowed by prayer by Mrs. Geo. Ashton and a duet by Misses Ardyth and Leslie Campbell, "How Great Thou Art". The Bible study, " The Dif- ferent Impressions of Love", was given by Mrs. Royden Devitt. A prayer for Korea was offered by Mrs. A. C. Coles. The report on stewardship was read by Mrs. Elmer Hard- ing. A donation of $500.00 was voted to the men of the church, to assist with the ex- pense of the new bathroom in the parsonage. Sunday May 12th, is to be the Thankoffer- ing service of U.C.W. , with Rev. Jorgenson, of Trinidad, as speaker. Congregations of Mayne and Newbridge will be guests. The skit, "Farmyard Fan- tasy" was presented and a de- licious lunch was served. Easter Meeting Presbyterian WMS WHITECHURCH—Mrs. Vic- tor Emerson, president of the W. M.S. of the Presbyterian Church here, presided at the Easter Thankoffering meeting last Wednesday afternoon and welcomed the many guests from Calvin -Brick United Church and the United Church here. She also gave a reading, "Ring Easter Bells", and used the program in the Glad Tid- ings for the occasion. "When I Survey the Won- drous Cross", was sung and Mrs. Albert McQuillan led in prayer. Scripture was read responsively. Miss Lila Emerson gave an Easter reading, and Miss Emer- son led in the offertory prayer. Mrs. Gordon McBurney and Mrs. Alex Robertson sang, "It Was Alone, the Saviour Died". Mrs. Andrew Gaunt intro- duced the special speaker, Rev. G. Fish of Wingham, who spoke on "The Empty Grave", and the mandate Christ gave, "Go ye into all the world." Mr. Fish told of the work of the disciples and of the re- turning period of witch doctors, and their evil influence and power over natives and youth of Africa. He closed his in- structive and inspirational talk with prayer. Mrs, D. Hill thanked Mr. Fish for his splen- did address and presented him with a remembrance. Mrs. Dan Tiffin played a piano solo, "Shadows on the Water", Mrs. Earl Caslick led in the Glad Tidings prayer. Mrs. Emerson told the story of the legend of the Easter lily. After the closing hymn, Mr, Fish closed the meeting with the benediction. Lunch was served and alI enjoyed the social time together. WHiTECHURCH Marion and Alex MacDonald of Ripley spent a few days last week with their uncle .and aunt; Mr. and Mrs. Alan McBurney. Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Mc- Gowan of Oakville spent the week -end at the home of their daughter, Mrs, Ronald Jamie - SOIL Mrs. E. E, Walker spent the week -end with Mr, and Mrs, J. Barnes, of Toronto, who leaves in May to tour England and Europe for four months and will visit with Mrs. Walker's rela- tives there. Mrs. Walker also visited with Mr, and Mrs. Fred Perfect, who recently moved from Winnipeg to Toronto. Mrs, Hank Kragt and her little son, Robert, were able to return home to Langside from Wingham Hospital on Friday. Lyle Simmons and Mrs. Doug. Wildfang spent Saturday in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Shaefer of Brantford called on friends in the village Thursday. Miss Elizabeth Armstrong of Stratford spent the week -end with her parents. Mr, and Mrs. Gerald Potts of Burlington spent a couple days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Everitt Armstrong. Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Hargrave and Mr. and Mrs. Stan Forester attended the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Gibson, in Lis- towel on Monday night. Miss Linda Martin spent a few days last week with her grandparents in Listowel. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Barrons and Miss Ardyth Campbell left Saturday for their home at Cordova Mines, after visiting the past week with Mrs. Pearl Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wray, Brian and Grace of Toronto visited last week with friends in the communtiy. Mr. Clayton Brown of Hearst spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown and Mr. Wm. Brown. Master Kenny McClement spent a few days last week with Master Brian Nuhn. Mr. Doug Wildfang of Cooks- ville spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Simmons. Mrs. Wildfang and Brian re- turned home with him after spending the past week with her parents. Miss Janie Hambly spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Max Hambly in Kitchener. The sympathy of the com- munity goes to Mr. Harvey McDermitt in the passing of his mother last week. Mr. and Mrs. Percy McDer- mitt and family, Brantford, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mc- Dermitt of Galt spent several days here last week with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McDermitt, owing to the death of their mother. Mrs. Wm. Marriner isspend- ing several days this week with her mother in Peterboro. Misses Susan Ashton of Athens and Judy Durst of List- owel visited last week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ashton. Mrs. Fred Norris, wife of the local restaurant owner, re- ceived a severe cut in her finger. She was rushed to Listowel Hospital, where several stitches were needed to close the wound. Miss Beverley Jacobson of Galt spent the week -end with her parents. Mrs. Harvey Bride of Toron- to visited Tuesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Doig, Master Peter Doig re- turned home with his mother.
