ONTARIO Ontario Drivers Have Bought Last Annual Permits With the deadline for pur- chase of vehicle driving licen- ses yesterday, Ontario drivers have probably secured these little slips for the last time on a yearly basis. Transport Minister James Auld announced in the Legisla- ture that by the end of this year his department will have completed arrangements for the renewal of driving licenses on a three-year basis, the due date to fall on the driver's birth date. He explained that application forms for renewal will be sent out to the drivers in advance of the birthday deadline. The minister also suggested the possibility of issuing vehicle license plates on the same system, although plans for this procedure have not been final- ized. wir When you are young you do J'a lot of wishful thinking; when you are older, you do a lot of thoughtful wishing. r "Mutual Life insurance costs less when you figure it out. Al- dis, Huron M.O.H., rabies in the county has reached a peak. A number of persons are being given the 14 -shot series of vaccine as a precaution, fol- lowing contact with infected cattle in the East Wawanosh area. Last month, a total of 24 persons received similar treatment. A number of cattle have died in the Westfield area and the carcasses have been dis- posed of in an attempt to elim- inate danger of further conta- gion, Among those infected with the disease in the past few weeks have been a veterinarian from Seaforth and one from Blyth. "When the veterinarians get it you know it's very prevalent" Dr. Aldis stated. SOME DANGER HERE While he noted he did not want people to become alarm- ed over the dread disease, he did point out they should use every precaution around live- stock. "They should be mindful that any illness they may have could be rabies, " he said. He further stated that child- ren especially should be warn- ed not to confront any strange animals that are acting pecul- iarly and this also included household pets. He noted children should be told not to touch any dead animals or those acting strange- ly. VACCINATE PETS Dr. Aldis also advised people to have their pets vac- cinated with a preventative shot. He noted that many had done this some time ago, but pointed out the vaccine was only good for three years and then should be given again. He reported area veterinar- ians were equipped to adminis- ter the preventative vaccine. North Huron Wins Drama Festival The one -act play "Two Crooks and a Lady", presented by the North Huron Junior Far- mers and Junior Institute at the Huron Junior Farmers' drama festival last Friday evening, in the high school auditorium, was named to first position by ad- judicator Mrs. R. T. Nelson of Goderich. The North Huron group com- peted against another club from Seaforth. Another entry from South Huron had to cancel out at the last moment because a number of the cast were ill. Mrs. R, Kennedy of Brussels directed the cast of the winning group which included Murray Hoover, Grace Mathers, Mur- iel Coultes, Bessie Johnston, Ken Johnston and Don Martin. This group was presented with the Merton Keyes drama trophy. Awards for best actor and best actress went to two players from the Seaforth troup, Bill Campbell and Nancy Lannon. In her remarks Mrs. Nelson complimented both casts on their efforts. The North Huron play, she said was well bal- anced, got off to a bit of a slow start and then continued very well. She made a num- ber of suggestions to both direc- tors and to several of the play- ers as to ways of improving their work. Mrs. Nelson is a director of the Goderich Little Theatre, Master of ceremonies for the evening was Glenn Greb of Zurich. Murray Gaunt, M.L.A. , and past president of the county Junior Farmers spoke briefly, and stated the number of people who attended the festival was very encouraging, and proved the Juniors have good support.
