Euchre FORDWICH--Twelve tables of progressive euchre were in play at Fordwich community hall, sponsored by the Women's Institute. On Saturday evening friends and neighbours gathered at their home, where a social "—e was spent. William Cox l,.e 1 expressed best wishes t4 :he .:pie on behalf of the uess and Mr. and Mrs. Harri- fie:d received a number of love,y gifts, for which they both thanaed everyone. A delicious lunch was served. On Sunday they were enter- tained at a family dinner at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Armstrong. Mrs. Harrifield was the for- mer Laurin Dickert and was born in Howick Township on April 2'7, 1896. Mr. Harri- field was born in Normanby •Township on February 11th, 1892. They were married at Alsfeldt by the Rev. Bruer on March 4th, 1913, and moved to the ninth concession of How - ick, where they have farmed all their married lives. They have one son, Walter, who resides on the farm too, and one daughter, (Ruby) Mrs. Bruce Armstrong. Women See Film On Church Work FORDWICH—The World Day of Prayer for the Fordwich area was held in the Fordwich Uni- ted Church with a large atten- dance. The leaders for the service were Mrs. Wm. Wilson, United Church; Mrs. James Strong, Anglican Church; Mrs. Don Reid, Mayne Church; Miss Elva Foster, Newbridge Church. Special prayers were offered by Mrs. Earl Cober, Mrs. An- son Demerling, Mrs. Jack Brown, Mrs. Ruby Foster, Mrs. Reddimaker, Mrs. Don Reed. A solo, "Have Thine Own Way, Lord" was rendered by Mrs. Jack Wilson. A film, "The World Church in Action, at Home and Abroad" was shown, Mrs. Robt. Gibson giv- ing the commentary. LO BA Euchre FORDWICH--A progressive euchre party, sponsored by the Fordwich L. O. B. A. , was held Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Ruby Foster. Ten tables were in play. High winners were F, Dar- cey and Mrs. G. Ashton; low, Mrs. Emma Williamson and Art Forester; special, Mrs. C. Dayton and Jim Foster. Taped Opinions Rodger Schwass manager - director of National Farm Radio Forum, was in Mount Forest recently, taping interviews for a program " The Rural Church", which was heard Monday eve- ning. Rodger, who is known in this district as a former assistant farm editor at CKNX, inter- viewed people across the na- tion for this program. Fordwich News Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Gal- braith of Guelph spent the week- end at the home of Mrs. Elsa Strong and Mrs. Verna Gal- braith. The latter returned to Guelph to spend a week. Mr, and Mrs. Anson Demer- ling spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Goldrich in London. Mrs. Mary Sanderson of Kitchener spent the week -end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Dinsmore. Mr. Earl Ridley of London spent last week at his home here, Mr. and Mrs, Murray Kirkly of Kingston were week -end visitors with Mr, and Mrs. Carroll Johnson. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McClement were, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn McClem* ent and Paul and Mrs. Ida Gal- lagher of Listowel, Mr. Cecil Wilson and family and Mr. Paul Schaefer. Miss Betty Mc - Clement of Kitchener also spent the week -end with her parents. Miss Elizabeth Cooper of Kitchener spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wray Cooper. Mr. William Boehler visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Baylor in Gorrie. Miss Patty King daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don King and Master Billy Simmermaker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Simmer. maker, underwent tonsilectom- ies Friday morning in Wingham Hospital. Mr. Curtis Jordan of London spent a couple of days last week at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Foster and Miss Jean Foster of Toronto spent the week -end with Mrs. Ruby Foster. Mr. Ian Pittendreigh of Lon- don visited over the week -end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benin and children of Waterloo visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore. Miss Ruby Zurbrigg of Lis- towel visited a few days last week with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Hibberd, Miss Glenna Hibberd of Kitch- ener visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Campbell at Winthrop. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham of St. Marys visited one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lohr. Sunday visitors with Mrs. Ruby Forster were Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton and Mr. John MacNaughton of Wingham and Mr. John Gamble. WHO WAS AKHUND OF SWAT Abdul Ghafur was the real name of the Akhund of Swat. A Mohammedan saint of the 19th century, he exerted great influence over his co -relig- ionists. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Patterson of Toronto spent the week -end with Mrs. Pearl Patterson. The many friends of Mrs. Cecil Wilson will be sorry to hear she is confined to Walker- ton Hospital, suffering from virus pneumonia. Miss Anne Lindsay and Miss Ruth Johnson of Toronto were week -end visitors with Mr, and Mrs. Jim Douglas. Miss Elizabeth Armstrong of Stratford spent the week -end with her parents.
