Miss Camile Hoodless, Tor- onto, and Mr. Lancely Magof- fin of London, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jamieson on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Russell of Woodstock spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Smyth. Russell Gaunt, Donald Ross, Wesley Tiffin and John Aitche- son attended the Liberal nom- ination meeting at Port Elgin on Friday last, and Donald Gaunt spent the week -end with Gordon Moffatt, Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stockill and children, who had spent the past month here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Morrison, left on Friday for their home at Timmins. Mr. Victor Emerson and Mr. ChasTiffin were in London on Sunday to see Mr. Russell Ritchie, who is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Karl Pedersen, who spent the past month at Victor -1 is Hospital, London, with Mrs. • penings Pedersen and baby Karen, re- turned to their home in the village on Thursday, Mrs. E, R, Dunlop and Mr, Cecil Fisher of Doon, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Thos. Morrison, Mr. Buckton, who has been confined to bed at the Morrison horn: for the past two months, was taken to Wingham Hospital on Saturday. ° Mr. Alex Robertson has been under the doctor's care this week -end with flu. Mrs. Wm. Dawson, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin and Andrew Henderson spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. 11, D. Hen- derson of Listowel. Mrs. Cecil Falconer accom- panied Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer, Alan and Kevin when they moved to Streetsville on Saturday, and spent the week- end there. Angus has rented his farm to Mr. Gary Rantoul for the next three years. Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClena- ghan, who have been at Glamis for the past few weeks, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan. Mrs. Walter Lott spent a few days last week and visited with her son, Mr. Wesley Lott, who is in London, after a long illness in Southern "(kited States. Mrs. Elmer Sleightholm was ill all last week with flu. Mr. Chas. Falconer, Mary and John of Glamis, spent Sun- day with Miss Annie and Mary Laidlaw. The March meeting of the Womens Institute will be held on Wednesday next at 8:30 p.m., when the men and wo- men of the community are in- vited to attend and hear Mr. Goodall of Wingham speak on wills. The roll call is to be Calvin -Brick Holds Service WHITECHURCH—Fifteen ladies attended the Day of Prayer meeting at the Calvin- Briek United Church on Friday. Mrs. Alex Robertson presided, with Mrs. Ronald Coultes, Mrs, Eccles Dow and Mrs. Gilbert Beecroft in charge of the differ- ent sections. Mrs. Kenneth Mason, Mrs. John L. Currie, Mrs. Norman Coultes, Mrs. Roy Pattison and Mrs. Mina McRitchie led the group for special prayers. Mrs. Alex Robertson and Mrs. Gor- don McBurney sang, "The Peace that My Saviour Has Given", and Mrs. George Mc- Gee gave a splendid talk on "More than Conquerors". Mrs. Beecroft closed the meeting with the benediction. S.S. 9 Euchre W HITECHURCI•i—Fourteen tables were in play on Friday night at the euchre, sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Alex Robert- son and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pattison, in No. 9 school, E. Wawanosh. Mrs. Elmer Ire- land and George Gregg held high points, and Mrs. Kenneth Currie and Lawrence Taylor held low points. Gershom Johnston's card was drawn for the lucky card. The next euchre will be held in two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Leaver and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McBurney as sponsors. Day of Prayer In Whitechurch WHITECHURCH— Twenty- three ladies, from four denom- inations, attended the Day of Prayer meeting in the United Church on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Millan Moore, Mrs. Frank Coulter, Mrs. Dan Tiffin and Mrs. Victor Emerson presided for the four different sections, and Mrs. James Richardson sang a solo, "There Is None, Lord Jesus, There Is None Like Thee Mrs. Claude Coffin sang, "Love Lifted Me". Mrs. Andrew Gaunt gave a splendid talk on prayer, the raising up of our minds and hearts to God. Mrs. G. E. Farrier, Mrs. Albert Coultes, Mrs. Victor Emerson, Mrs. J. D. Beecroft and Mrs. Dawson Craig, led in the special pray- er section. The treasurers of the churches, took up the offering, which was dedicated by Mrs. Emerson, who also closed with the benediction. Black Knights Elect Officers The Royal Black Knights of Huron County gathered for their annual meeting in the Blyth Orange Hall on Friday evening `with a good attendance. Very Worshipful Sir Knight William Mclllwain of Bayfield, County Master, was in charge of the meeting. In spite of the loss of four valued members by death, the records of the Pre- ceptories showed an increase in membership. A substantial sum in the treasury was also report- ed. A solemn memorial ser- vice was conducted for the de- parted members, led by the chaplain, Sir Kt. Wrn. Camp- bell and Past County Master Sir Kt. Robert Hibberd, both of the Fordwich Preceptory. Along with routine business the special items dealt with were as follows: The Knights of Huron County will celebrate Derry Day on August 10th in St. Catharines this year. Since ample funds have been collected a committee was Wingham Advance -Times, Thursday, March 7, 1903 .., Page 3 Mrs. Abraham UCW Hostess BELMORE—The February meeting of the United Church Women was held on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Thomas Abraham, with Mrs. Earl Fitch in charge. The meeting open- ed with a call to worship and a hymn. The Scripture, taken from St. Luke, was read, fol- lowed by prayer and a second hymn. A report for 1962 for the combined committees on Liter- ature and Communications and Press and Publicity, was given by the convener, Mrs. Fitch. formed to purchase a fine new set of lodge collars for the county officers. In the very near future a testimonial dinner is being put on by the ladies of the L. O. B. A. in Fordwich Anglican Church in honor of Rt. Wor. Sir Kt. Harry Collins of Woodstock, Grand Master of the Royal Black Knights of On- tario West. The County Master declared all offices vacant and called on Rt. Wor. Sir Kt. Oliver Jacques, Associate Deputy Grand Master of Ontario West, to elect and install the county officers for the coming year as follows: Worshipfull Prec., Sir Kt. Walter Scott; Deputy Prec. Sir Kt. William Campbell; Chap- lain, Sir Kt. Calvert Falconer; Registrar, Sir Kt. William Taylor; first lecturer, Sir Kt. Fred Jamison; second lecturer, Sir Kt. Robert Hibberd; first censor, Sir Kt. Wilfred Castle; second censor, Sir Kt. Russell Page; first standard bearer, Sir Kt. William Dickie; second standard bearer, Sir Kt. Char- les Stewart; Pursivant, Sir Kt. Harvey Jacklin. These officers were then ably installed by Rt. Wor. Sir Kt. Oliver Jaques. Short speeches were given by a num- ber of the newly -elected of- ficers and the County Lodge was closed with prayer and the national anthem. The Blyth knights served a bountifull lunch. Mrs. Alex Sangster read the new study book, "As Asia Goes", Mrs. Norman Newans gave an interesting reading, Mrs. Wil- fred Johann conducted the study of another chapter of "The Word and the Way". The president Mrs. Harry Mulvey, took over the business session and called the roll, and Mrs. Joseph Simmons read the minutes of the previous meet- ing. The meeting was closed with prayer. Rev. Pace Speaks School Girls Sing At Day of Prayer BELMORE—Rev. Howard Pace, minister of the United Churches of Belmore, Macintosh and Mildmay, was guest speaker for the World Day of Prayer service, held in Knox Presbyterian Church, Belmore on Friday. Speaking from the theme, "More than Conquerors", he stressed the value of prayer in Christian life, and described the many conquests of which the Christian is assured through faith in Jesus Christ, Key women were Mrs. E. Jeffray for Knox Presbyterian Church, Mrs. W. Johann for Belmore United Church and Mrs. Jack Ferguson for Mac- intosh United Church. The senior girls of Belmore school sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and special prayers were offered by Mrs. J. Ruther- ford, Mrs. R. Dickson, Mrs. H. Ballagh, Mrs. E. Renwick, Mrs. J. Simmons and Mrs. L. Harkness. Following the prayer service, a cup of tea was served afford- ing a time for fellowship.
