Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stock - all and Cindy of Preston visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koch. Mr. and Mrs. Selah Breck- enridge, Jamestown, called on Mr. and Mrs, Roy Gowdy. Mrs. Elmer Farrish and Mrs, Harry Gowdy spent Monday in Stratford. Mr. Murray McCreery and Miss Sharon McCreery of Lon- don visited Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. George Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Felker, Paula and Jimmy spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Fel- ker, Fordwich. Mrs. Anson Ruttan is a pa- tient in Wingham Hospital, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Hynd- man, Clark and Karen visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cass Thompson, Harriston. Mr. and Mrs. George Meech - am and family moved Saturday to Dr. Vanner's house. Miss Elaine Miller, Guelph, spent a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller. Mr. Wilbert Galloway is a patient in Listowel Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs, Wilford King spent Thursday and Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Earls of London. Son of Former Rector Dies GORRIE—Friends were sad dened to learn of the death in St. Thomas -Elgin General Hos- pital on Thursday, February 14th, of David Nobes of Ayl- mer, son of Mrs. Grace Nobes, Aylmer and the late Rev. Geo. K. Nobes. Rev. Nobes was a former rector of the parish of Gorrie, Fordwich and Wroxeter. Death was due to bronchial pneumonia and strep throat. David was born in Gorrie, and was 18 on Tuesday, Febru- ary 12th. He was a grade 12 student of the East Elgin Dis- trict High School. He taught a Sunday school class, was a choir and AYPA member of Trinity Anglican Church, Ayl- mer, where service was con- ducted on Saturday by the rec- tor, Rev. Ronald Matthewman, Burial was in Aylmer cemetery. Surviving are his mother, younger brothers, Fred and Robert at home, and his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lerch, Aylmer. Shower for Bride - Elect LAKELET—A miscellaneous shower was held on Friday eve- ning in the McIntosh Church parlor, to honor Miss Guelda Haskins on her forthcoming marriage. About 35 ladies were present and enjoyed a program of contests and read- ings and a solo by Miss June Wright, entitled "Happiness Street". An address was read. The bride opened the gifts and thanked the ladies. The par- lor was decorated with pink and white streamers and bells. Hostesses for the occasion were Misses Norma Harper and San- dra Wright, who at the con- clusion of the evening, served a lovely lunch. Euchre for Hall Improvements GORRIE—Thirteen tables were in play at the Women's Institute euchre held in the community hall on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Wes Underwood and George Hamilton had the highest scores, Second highest for the ladies was Mrs, Delbert Clegg and for the men, Bert Hubbard. Institute members served lunch. The proceeds will go to the Hall Board for improve- ments to the hall, Mr, Ralph Wilt, Listowel, visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Maurice Dennis. Mr. John Musgrove, Walker- ton, spent the week -end with Mrs, Mabel Gilkinson. Mr, and Mrs. Robt. Harrison visited Mr, and Mrs, Earl Har,- rison of Goderich on Sunday. Mrs, A, E. Bunt is visiting friends at Agincourt and Brant- ford. Mrs. Percy Ashton has re- turned home from Wingham { Hospital.. Mrs. Blake McMillan, Carol- nne and Kirk visited Wednes- day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ward, Listowel. Mr, and Mrs. Victor Stock- ton, Clifford, visited Sunday with Mrs. Glenn Austin. It was also their 4Sth wedding an- niversary. Miss Elizabeth Stokes spent the week -end with Nancy Scott, Teeswater, and attended the variety concert. iy Card Social LAKELET—A good turnout was on hand for the weekly card social. Winners were as follows; Euchre, high lady, Mrs. Stan Hayes of Wroxeter; high gentleman, Chas. Scott ofMc- Intosh; low, Miss Connie Allan of Lakelet. Solo, high, Burt Hubbard of Gorrie; low, Delmar Dickert of Lakelet; special, Chas. Scott. The committee in charge was Mrs. Bob Allan, Mrs. E, Ferguson, Mrs. Stan Dennis and Mrs. Lloyd Jacques. GORRIE—Rev. Fred W. Tay- lor of Gorrie United Church of- ficiated at the ceremony held at the home of the bride's par- ents when Margaret Carol Has - tie and John Keith Finnigan ex- changed wedding vows in a double -ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hastie, Gor- rie and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Finnigan of Wingham, The wedding music was played by Miss Karen Michel of Kitchener. The bride, given in mar- riage by her father, wore a street -length gown of white silk organza over white peau de faille, with fitted bodice, Mrs. Cecil Wilson Gives WI Motto GORRIE--The February meet- ing eeting of the Gorrie Women's Institute, was held at the home of Mrs. Alex, Graham. Mrs. Russell Adams presided and opened with the Ode, followed by the Mary Stewart Collect. Mrs. Glenn Johnston gave the current events dealing with Radio Farm Forum on Canada's world obligation. The panel stresses Women's Institutes sponsor help to people so that living standards may be im- proved in other countries. The roll call, "What I have Superintendents Are Re-elected BLUEVALE—The annual meeting of the United Church Sunday School was held in the church school room on Febru- ary 12th. Rev. G.C. Mitchell presided and conducted a wor- ship service. Lloyd Wheeler gave the secretary's report. Ross Smith and W. J. Peacock were re- appointed superintendents; Lloyd Wheeler, secretary; Mrs. Carl Johnston, treasurer; pian- ists, Elizabeth Gold Thorpe and Grace Mathers. Appointments of teachers and assistants for the nine classes of the Sunday School were made, some being re- placements. LAKELET Visitors at Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Metzgers' were Mrs. Esther Smith, Wayne, Bill Marion Smith and Mr. Morris Dick of Palmerston. Mr. and Mrs. David Morri- son and family of Holstein spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Hallman. Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Hall- man and baby son visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Behrns of R. R. 1 Wroxeter. Visitors on Sunday with Mn. and Mrs. Gordon McKee were Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Wright and Mt. and Mrs. Ronald Dahms, Susan and Jimmie of Walkerton. Mr, Glen Reidt of Newmar- ket is spending a few days at home, recovering from a bout of influenza, done to further my education since leaving school" , was answered by 18 members. Mrs. Cecil Wilson introduced the guest speaker, Miss Lenore Beswetherick, Fordwich, who spoke on education and new op- portunities that are coming our way. English, history and geography are needed for a good background. Miss Bes- wetherick also discussed the courses the high school has to offer. Mrs. Wilson thanked the speaker and presented her with a small gift. The motto, "Education means developing the mind not stuffing the memory", was given by Mrs. Cecil Wilson. The meeting closed with the national anthem and a delicious lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. Hartwell Strong and Mrs. Leonard Sanderson. Hold Party BLUEVALE--A crokinole party, sponsored by Unit Three U.C.W. on Valentine Night had a small attendance owing to a stormy evening. The school room of the church was nicely decorated for the oc- casion and those present enjoy- ed the games and refreshments. —Photo by Seifert rounded neckline and three- quarter length sleeves. The skirt was bell shaped with lace inserts and small bows, A crown of sequins held her tiered veil of silk illusion, and she carried a cascade of red carna- tions, white stephanotis and ivy, Mrs. Robt. Strong of Gorrie was her sister's matron of honor, with Miss Elaine Miller, Guelph, cousin of the bride, as brides- maid. They wore identical gowns of pale blue chrome - spun taffeta, styled with prin- cess bodice, bell skirt with watteau panel at the back and matching blue pill box hats with face veil. Lynn Finnigan, Wingham, was his brother's best man, with Keith Woods, Clinton, asusher. A reception was held at Danny's Dining Room, near Wingham. For travelling the bride donned an aqua wool sheath with flowered hatmatch- ing gloves and winter white coat. They will reside in Clinton. The bride was guest of honor at miscellaneous showers held at the home of Mrs. Earle King, Gorrie, and at the home of Mrs. Harold Congram, Wing - ham. Girls Will Hold Junior Service GORRIE--The Canadian Girls in Training met in the Gorrie United Church. The meeting opened with the C.G.I.T. pur- pose. Linda Latronica and Elizabeth Galbraith had charge of the worship service. Mrs. Robt. Edgar gave the story. Plans were made for a joint Junior World Day of Prayer ser- vice by the Anglican Junior Auxiliary acrd C,G,I,T. in the United Church on March 4th. Invitations were sent to Wrox- eter and Fordwich C.G.I,T, members to attend this service. Games were held, followed by lunch and the meeting closed with Taps. library Board Shows Balance BLUEVALE--Tile annual mooting of the Bluevale Public Library Board took place at the home of Mrs. Harry Elliott on February 12th, with Mrs. Bert Garniss presiding, The financial statement, read by Mrs. Elliott, showed a balance of $165. Included in the expenses for the year was the painting of the building and planting of shrubs. The librarian reported that 1980 books were given out during the year, She also re- ported the work of the county library serving from Goderich 264 outlets ^ 4 high schools, 33 libraries, 254 elementary schools. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered Mrs. Elliott for her efficiency and constant inter - Euchre Winners Thirteen tables of euchre were enjoyed at the Gorrie Community Hall sponsored by the Gorrie Women's Institute. First prize went to Mrs. Wes- ley Underwood, second prize, Mrs. Delbert Clegg. First prize for the men to Mr, George Hib- bard and second to Mr. Bert Hubbard. Mr. Burns Stewart won a prize for having a birth- day that day. The next card party to be February 26th. Day of Prayer At St. Stephen's GORRIE—The World Day of Prayer service will be held in St, Stephen's Anglican Church at 3 p.m, on Friday, March 1st. The theme is "Marc than Conquerors". This year the women of Molesworth will join with wo- men of this community and it is hoped that every woman will avail herself of the opportunity of united prayer to bring about peace in this troubled world. est in the library.
