FORDWICII—A progressive
euchre party sponsored by the
Fordwich Women's Institute to
aid the hall board was well at-
tended on Friday night in the
community hall. There were
14 tables of euchre and two of
crokinole.
A door prize of a chicken
was won by Bob Gibson. High
winners were, Mrs. Jack Lep-
pington and Ernie Dinsmore.
Consolation prizes were won by
Mrs. Elmer Harding and Sam
Johnson.
High for crokinole were, Mrs
John Winkel and Mr, Goosen
Winkel.
New Year Theme
For Aft. Unit
FORDWICH--The afternoon
unit of the Fordwich United
Church Women met in the
Sunday school room with Mrs.
Wray Cooper presiding. The
theme of the meeting was
"Meditations for the New Year".
The Scripture was read by
Mrs. Glenn Johnson. The roll
call was answered by "Thoughts
for the New Year". Mrs. Stan
Bride was in charge of the pro-
gram, opening with a salute to
the New Year and prayer.
"Standing at the Portal of the
Opening Year" was sung.
Five thoughts for the New
Year were given: "Remember-
ing Others" by Mrs. P. Patter-
son; "Living Constructively" by
Mrs. Sam Johnson; "Living Un-
selfishly", by Mrs. Wm. Wil-
son; "Living Observantly" by
Mrs. E. Williamson; "Living
Spiritually" by Mrs. Robt. Gib-
son.
Resolutions for the New
Year were given by Mrs. Wray
Cooper. The benediction was
pronounced by Mrs. S. Bride

New President
FORDWICH—The evening
unit of the Fordwich United
Church met Thursday night in
the church basement. The de-
votions were taken by Mrs. Mel
Taylor. Mrs. Scott Clarkson
is the new president.
The study book, "The Is-
land of Taiwan" was given by
Mrs. Harold Pollock, Mrs. Earl
Moore and Miss Louise Matt-
hews. The feature was by Mrs.
Mel Taylor on the New Year
by Padre W. H. Young of
Guelph. Mrs. Robt. llibberd
offered prayer. A social hour
was spent and lunch was served
by Mrs. Mel Taylor and Mrs.
Earl Moore.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Patterson
of Toronto were week -end visi-
tors with Mrs. Pearl Patterson.
Miss Waverly Douglas of
Kincardine spent a couple clays
last week with Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Douglas. Miss Douglas
left Friday by train for Sault
Ste. Marie, where she will be
employed by the Bell Tele-
phone.
