Mail to The Rural Voice, Box 37, Goderich, Ontario N7A 3Y5 J 2 THE RURAL VOICE EDITOR'S DESK You' ve heard all the words before, but they apply again in this issue. Commitment: To a family farm and a way of life. The Snyders, Jim and Dianne, want their children to learn about farming and be a part of it. The Snyders are also active as 4-H leaders — Jim says that his 4 -Hers are role models for the Snyders' own kids. Community: There are people out there who are devoting their energy to working through the changes in the rural community. Paul Nichol is a community development officer with the Saugeen Community, 10 munici- palities that have joined forces to con- centrate on the economic future of their area. Nichol wants to see rural communities initiating and controlling change rather than just reacting to it. Another aspect of community is Carol Cooper's work for Rural Connections, which is assisting farm families to form and develop support networks in their immediate area. Conflict: The Wright family thought their battle was over when they won their case in District Court. But an appeal has been launched by the feed company involved. Waiting on that appeal will take more time, putting their farm in jeopardy. Something new: this month, Veterinary Laboratory Services in Huron Park offers the first of a series of articles on livestock health prob- lems, starting with an overview of the laboratory and its function. Because of late -breaking stories and space restraints, the article on Caring for Farm Children, slated for this issue, will be featured next month. Till then, a bountiful harvest.0 •
